Devil (Savage MC--Tennessee Book 1) by Jordan Marie (67)

Epilogue

Torrent

Five Months Later

I look out the kitchen door and see Devil standing on the deck, looking out over the lake and my heart flips in my chest. It’s been a long, hard five months, Devil’s been home officially two months today, but it sure hasn’t been easy. He’s better—so much better than he was when he first came home, but he has his good days and his bad days. Today was a mixture of both. We had a good breakfast together, but most of the day he’s been in bed with a debilitating migraine. Those are something he never got before, but they happen with sad regularity since Wolf’s torture. I still pray every damn day that they find that asshole and he dies a very bloody death. So far it hasn’t happened.

“You okay, Logan?” I ask, opening the kitchen door. He turns to look at me and maybe it’s because we spend so much time together lately, but I can sense his mood from looking at him. “Stop it, Logan Dupree. Stop it right now,” I warn him.

“Stop what, Angel?” he asks, a half smile on his face, but it’s not one he really means. Since waking up he has bouts of depression. He fights them, but his body has been through a huge trauma and more than the physical body has to heal. There are days I can’t find a trace of the man I met buying condoms, but always—always—I see the man I love.

“Stop thinking I’d be better without you,” I warn him and he frowns at me.

“You haven’t exactly hitched yourself to a prize catch, Torrent,” he warns and I walk out to him, go up on my tiptoes and link my hands behind his neck.

“I have the man I love,” I tell him, letting my lips rub against his bearded chin. It’s not really a kiss, but it makes me happy. His beard is finally soft and full again. For a long time, he couldn’t have one because of all the healing his face had to have. I love his beard. I rub my face against it and then I kiss his lips briefly. I have to have that contact—I crave it.

“You deserve better, Angel. Not a broken down piece of a man with one eye and a permanent limp.”

“Will you stop? It’s because of me this all happened to begin with. I was so lost in my memories that I couldn’t see what was right in front of my face and look what it cost you!”

“Is that why you’re with me? Pity?”

“Are you kidding me right now, Logan?”

“Angel, look at me. Not to mention, I couldn’t even make love to you this morning. It was your birthday and all I could do was roll around in bed… hurting.”

“I’ll have you know I’ve had the best birthday I’ve ever had today. And do I have to remind you that you made love to me last night?”

“It’s not the same and I don’t see what’s so great about it. You even had to go with Fury into town because I wasn’t able.”

I sigh. If there’s one dark spot in our lives, it’s the fact that Wolf is still on the loose and until he’s caught, Devil and I live with someone watching over us. Today Fury went with me and one of the club’s prospects hung around here to watch Devil’s back while he was sleeping. I know that hurts Devil’s ego too. No man likes to feel like they can’t take care of themselves and the ones they love.

“So you’ll make love to me tonight. I feel like celebrating,” I tell him.

“There’s not much to celebrate,” he growls and tries to pull away from me. I don’t let him.

“I think there is. Logan—”

“What are you going to do if I go blind in the one eye I have left? What if my back gets worse and I lose the ability to walk? What if—”

I press my lips to him, to stop his tirade.

“What if you become the best father in the world?” I ask him when I pull away.

“I don’t—” I wait for what I’ve said to sink in. It doesn’t take long. “Torrent?” he asks.

“You’re going to be a father, Logan.”

“I… Shit…”

“Please tell me you’re happy.”

“I… I am…Shit baby, I’ve got a lot to heal from still.”

“So you’ll do it. You’ll do it for me, for us and you’ll do it for our child.”

“You have a lot of faith in me…” he whispers.

“That’s because you’ve never let me down, Logan. Not once. You always held on to me and I’m never letting go of you.”

“I love you, Angel.”

“I love you, Logan. We were made for each other you know,” I tell him.

“We were?” he asks and I grin.

“An Angel and a Devil? Of course we were,” I tell him with a grin. “Hey! Where are we going?” I ask when he pulls on my hand and starts walking back toward the house.

“Going to take my Angel back to our bedroom and celebrate her birthday right,” he says with a big smile, the sadness he had earlier gone for now. His grin makes me laugh and I follow him… because really… I’d follow Logan anywhere…forever.
