Lawyer's Secret Omega: M/M Non-Shifter Mpreg (Dewey Cheetum & Howe Law Book 1) by Bella Bennet (24)

Chapter 24

Ryan

"I'm going into work today." I was sick and tired of doing nothing but laying around, watching TV, eating and sleeping. I expected a fight from Marcus but when I didn't hear anything, I looked over at him. He had stopped in the middle of putting on his shirt.

"Do you think that's wise?"

I huffed and rolled my eyes.

"If I didn't think it was wise, I wouldn't do it. I'm going to be at work sitting down. If my shoulder hurts too bad, which I don't think it will, and if my ribs suddenly bust apart and break, which I don't think they will, or if my jaw suddenly unhinges and falls out, which I don't think it will, there'll be people around to help me." I shouldn't have mocked him, but I seriously needed to get the hell out of here and back to work. Just laying around reminded me of why I was laying around in the first place. "I know you're concerned. I'm really glad you are. I love it that you're so protective of me, but just sitting here reminds me of the reason why I'm sitting here."

I lifted up the covers and got out of bed. I was going to start tearing up, so I tried to get to the bathroom fast.

"Hey." Marcus grabbed my arm, stopping me. I turned to him as he put his hands on my arms, his searching gaze full of love and worry. "You went through a hell of a lot. I just want to make sure you're not pushing yourself too soon. I don't want you to end up making your injuries worse."

I'd give Marcus a kiss except I had morning dragon breath, so I pecked him on the cheek.

"Thank you." I turned before he could smell my breath and continued to the bathroom. I got in the shower before I realized that I wasn't entirely sure how I was going to get to work today. I had never gone to work from Marcus's penthouse before. Marcus would be driven to work by Bill, so would I take the subway? A cab? An Uber? I knew one thing for sure- that there was no way we could get to work in the same car. Not unless we wanted our little surprise to be sprung. And frankly, I wanted to keep our relationship and our marriage a secret for as long as possible. I didn't want to be treated any differently.

I should probably let Marcus know that. That would probably be a good thing before he decides to pop champagne and make a big announcement today by bending me backwards over his arm and kissing the hell out of me in front everyone. I could see him doing that too. I wouldn't really mind it happening, just maybe not quite yet.

I wrapped a towel around my hips after drying my hair and went into the bedroom. He wasn't there. I walked down the hall and found him in the kitchen, downing some coffee.

"Hey, we haven't talked about keeping our relationship under wraps at work. I'd like to keep it quiet because I don't want to be treated any differently. Plus, I mean, it's going to be weird what people are going to say with me working for you."

Marcus walked over, running his eyes over my chest. He stuck two fingers in the top of my towel. One little tug and it would fall down. "I can't touch you because you'll get me all wet, but I sure as hell wish I didn't have anything planned for today. I'd put you right back in our bed and show you all the fantasies I've had about us. I've had a few fantasies about you being my subordinate at work."

Oh my. He smirked and kissed me, bending forward careful to not get his clothes wet.

"That was a hell of a distraction. But really, I don't want to be treated any differently at work. I would like to just be paralegal Ryan instead of Mr. Sutton's husband for as long as possible. What do you think?" I really hoped Marcus went for this.

Marcus narrowed his eyes, but he wasn't chewing on the inside of his cheek, which meant he wasn't doing any heavy-duty thinking. Plus with that gleam in his eye, honestly I was getting concerned about what crazy idea he was cooking up in that head of his. "So at work, we pretend that we're not in a relationship? You're not my husband? I'm not supposed to be flirting, or rubbing my hands over you as I pass?" Oh my God. Yeah, I might've said the wrong thing to him. I think he was going to run with this and have entirely too much fun at my expense, especially with the fact that I blushed easily.

Marcus smirked and winked. "Sure, we can keep it a secret. Then maybe we can play out all those fantasies I've had about bending my subordinate omega paralegal over my desk in my office. Or how about the ones where you need a ride home and I so helpfully give you a ride. Or the ones where-" If he told me about any more of those damn fantasies, we weren't ever going to leave this place today. Plus my towel was sticking straight out, he had me so turned on.

"Okay, okay, okay. You win. You can have your fun for a bit with me being the hot paralegal you can't have," I winked, "and then we can announce it when you feel it's right."

"Damn right we will. I'm not going to have you wandering around pregnant with my kid and have people making up rumors about you being pregnant and unmarried. There's no way in hell I'm going to let that happen."

Oh yeah. I had forgotten about how that would probably happen. "I need your ring size too. I'm going to buy our wedding rings and," with a quick glance at the clock, "I need to get going."

"How am I going to get to work today? I haven't taken the subway from here before-"

"You're not going to. Bill can drop me off and then come back and get you."

"In this traffic? Are you crazy? Let me just throw some clothes on real quick and I'll go to work with you. He can let me off half a block before the building. Then I can stop at that one bagel place and get some food on my way to work." I could tell Marcus wasn't too happy with the idea of me walking anywhere, especially after the kidnapping. I couldn't think of any other way this was going to work, though. Plus, a breakfast bagel with coffee sounded great.

"I'm nervous about you walking that far-"

"It's half a block!"

"Without anyone watching you, but there'll be other people around, so you'll probably be okay. Get dressed and then you can buy breakfast for the both of us."

Oh sure, leave poor little me doing the dirty work. Of course it was my idea, but whatever. I turned around and jumped when Marcus smacked my ass. "Get going before I decide to come back there and help you dress." I walked down the hall, but not before I had the last word.

"If you came back to help me dress, neither one of us is going to make it to work." God, we were so domesticated already. As I quickly dressed in my new paternity clothes, I wondered how Lance was doing. He hated to be by himself and I was worried for him. I almost worried enough to ask Marcus if Lance could move into the spare bedroom here, but that would be a really bad idea. I'd have to give Lance a call today to see how he was doing.

Marcus

Our morning plan worked perfectly. I was in my office getting caught up on email and voice-mails when Ryan stopped in with an extra bag. I assumed either Luke or Amy was already here, because Ryan played the part of nervous paralegal perfectly.

"I got an extra breakfast sandwich for you today. I hope you don't mind." He was standing outside my office door so of course I winked at him and licked my lips. He shot me a quick glare and then looked down and blushed. This was going to be too much fun.

"Sure bring it on in, thank you." Ryan walked in and set the bag down on my desk, but I wasn't going to let him just turn around and walk out. I leaned over and stopped him with a hand on his tie, which was unusual because he never wore ties, and leaned over my desk to kiss him. He gave me a cocky smile. I think Ryan was having as much fun with this as I was. I watched his ass as he walked back out of my office to the paralegal section. I blew out a breath and realized it was going to be pretty hard to keep my hands off of him with all this teasing and flirting all day long.

Thankfully news of what had happened to Ryan had not reached this part of the state. I told Steve to keep it out of the media because I sure as hell didn't want the law firm's name associated with any of this. All everybody here knew was that he had slipped and fell down the stairs. I tried to tell him that when our marriage finally came out, people would wonder if I had thrown him down the stairs. Ryan thought he could say that he injured himself in the gym, but it sounded too ridiculous.

Thankfully there weren't too many questions. Eric also had some fun with our relationship being a secret. I passed him in the hall and he invited me to go with the guys to a local omega strip club. That jackass. He knew damn well I wouldn't go because of Ryan, but he knew I wanted to stay in character, so I had to act like I was interested. He was doing to get destroyed in our next racquetball game. Not only that, but I'd probably just shoot the ball straight at him.

It was awkward having Ryan as my paralegal while keep things professional. I didn't like having Ryan be my subordinate and my partner. I wanted to talk him into staying home after he had our baby, but I was pretty sure that wouldn't work with him. He wanted to be as independent of an omega as possible. I'd have to move him to somebody else's paralegal team, though. It wasn't fair to either of us to keep him on as my subordinate. Of course, I'd have to figure out a way to play out my little fantasies before that happened.

As time went on, Ryan grew bigger and bigger, making his pregnancy very noticeable. I hadn't heard any rumors or gossip which was good, but I saw the looks people were giving him as he would walk by. I finally addressed it one night when we had Lance and Eric over for an impromptu dinner and movie night. I was sitting on the couch next to Ryan with my arm around his shoulders. We had paused the movie Hot Fuzz so Ryan could take a bathroom break. He came back into the living room, not wobbling yet, and sat back down next to me.

It felt odd sitting by myself on the couch, even though I used to sit by myself on the couch for years. It was crazy how fast I had gotten used to having Ryan in my life. It's like he was meant to be in my life so much that there wasn't even an adaptation period for having him around.

"I want to tell the people at the firm about our marriage and impending child." Ryan had just taken a bite of his pizza when I spoke. I didn't plan it on purpose, but it was pretty hysterical to see Ryan turn to me with big eyes and a slice of pizza in his mouth. He hadn't even bit down on it yet. I chuckled and ran my finger along the back of his neck. He finished biting and chewed.

"Why now? I mean, we've gone this long. Why don't we just keep going until I give birth? Then everybody could wonder and be all concerned about the poor unwed omega-"

"Not even funny. There is no fucking way anybody is going be rude to you. I don't even like the looks people are giving your stomach when you walk by." Ryan lit up like a Christmas tree and started laughing. "I don't even care if you think that's funny. You're my fucking husband, you're pregnant with my fucking baby, no one should be judging you or treating you any different just because they think you're an unwed parent. They can kiss my fucking ass if they think that."

I looked over at Lance and Eric but they weren't saying a word, which was kind of odd for them, now that I thought about it. They had been quieter than normal tonight, the both of them. I narrowed my eyes, looking between Eric and Lance. It didn't seem like there was anything going on there, but what were they hiding?

"All right, all right." Ryan sighed. "I guess if you feel the need for it., we can announce it anytime you want. How should we announce it?"

I know Ryan didn't want to be treated any differently, but that was certainly going to change when it came out that we were not only in a relationship, but secretly married and having a child together. The rumors were going to fly after that. I bet they tried to find out if we'd ever had sex in my office. I snickered.

"What you laughing about?"

I continued to rub Ryan's back, this time with my thumb. Just being around him had me horny all the time, but I was trying to be conscious of him being pregnant.

"I was just thinking about some of the questions your friends would probably ask you when they found out about us. They're probably going to ask you if we had sex in my office."

Ryan snorted.

"Yeah my answer will be, guess how many times!" I heard a choking sound and looked over at Eric and Lance. Lance had pizza in his mouth and huge eyes, but Eric was actually choking. I thought he'd be fine, but it dawned on me that he was actually choking. I ran to Eric, but Lance beat me to him. He had Eric's head down and pounded on his back. That wasn't any Heimlich maneuver I knew of.

"If he can cough, then he's getting air. He'll be fine." Lance looked up at me with a glare. "You could probably try timing your announcements when we don't have food in our mouths."

"I didn't do it on purpose." I walked back to the couch and sat down next to Ryan. While Eric and Lance were occupied, I leaned over and whispered in Ryan's ear.

"How many more times do you think we can get away with doing it my office before you give birth?"

Ryan smacked my thigh, blushing. I snickered and leaned back. I was pretty sure there'd be at least a few more times.

"What the hell man! I never would've figured you would have sex in your office! That's something I do." I raised my glass to Eric and took a drink. I had to give it to Eric, sneaky office sex was pretty hot. I should've definitely gone after Ryan a long time ago, but at least I had him now.

"Well, now that Eric's not dead, I've got an idea for how you can tell the firm about the pregnancy and your marriage. Host a baby shower. You could have the shower here at the penthouse because you're Ryan's boss, or you know, something like that. People will show up with gifts, and then you can stand up and announce it. Try not to do it when everybody's eating and drinking, though."

Lance had a pretty good idea, except for having it here. That was going to make it even more awkward when we announced who the father of Ryan's baby was.

"That's a great idea! It could be our wedding reception, baby shower combo." Ryan continued to excitedly talk with Lance about how this event could go while I looked around my penthouse thinking of the mess it would make. My penthouse wasn't big enough for a reception like that.

Ryan deserved a reception at my mom's country club, then we wouldn't have to clean up the mess, or deal with people in our place. A baby shower could be held here, but not a wedding reception. Plus, keeping it this long from my mom was going to be bad enough without me having a tiny wedding reception and without her being involved in the planning of it.

"What, you don't like that idea?"

I shook my head.

"I wasn't even listening. I was just thinking of how upset my mom's going to be that she hasn't known that I've been married and that we're expecting a child. I think we could let her manage planning the wedding reception and baby shower at her country club. I'm hoping that would make her feel somewhat better about us running off and getting married without telling her." Of course we ran off and got married without Ryan even knowing about it, too.

"I want this to just be a small baby shower, with just the firm. I mean, not everybody's going to show up. It could be a small wedding reception and baby shower combo, or even just a baby shower, where we announce the wedding and the baby. If we only have our close friends, it's not going to be that big. Having it here would be perfect for that." I looked at Ryan and realized that he had a point. Even though I sure as hell didn't want all of them here, this was his place too. If we were inviting our close friends, this would be the perfect place for it.

"All right. How about having my mom involved in the planning of it, though?" Hell, I was hoping with her involved she’d take care of the catering and the decorating so it didn't wear Ryan out. I certainly wasn't getting involved in it.

"Well, I suppose I should meet your mother, then."
