Lawyer's Secret Omega: M/M Non-Shifter Mpreg (Dewey Cheetum & Howe Law Book 1) by Bella Bennet (4)

Chapter 4

Ryan

"So what are you wearing today?"

I rolled my eyes. Lance had been pestering me for two days about what I was going to wear tonight to the after work party the firm was having. Apparently we were taking over a nearby dance club for the night. I couldn't imagine what that must have cost the firm but I planned on enjoying myself anyway. Being that we were all coworkers, we'd be on our best behavior. I was looking forward to dancing without worrying about being groped by random drunk alphas who didn't understand the phrase "back off".

"I hadn't planned anything special to wear. Just my usual slacks and shirt but without the tie." I mean really, what it matter? I saw these people every day. We were just going out to have drinks and celebrate a high profile case win by one of the partners. It's not like it was a Christmas party.

"Oh God, Ryan, you're hopeless. Scoot over. I'm going to find something for you to wear."

I shook my head and went back to the bathroom. I had tried to style my hair like Mrs. Foreman did, but Lance took one look at it and sent me back in the bathroom to start over. So here I was leaning over into the shower re-washing my hair to get all of the product out of it.

I couldn't deny that this wasn't just an ordinary day for me. I'd get to see Marcus out of work and hopefully dancing -maybe even be a little tipsy. Maybe he'd even get a little handsy, and he'd grab my ass and grind with me on the dance floor. That was a nice fantasy. If only Marcus knew how often I thought of him and jacked off. I sighed because he probably would've fired me already if he knew.

I dried my hair and put it up in a towel. I walked back to my room to see slacks and a shirt laid out on my bed that I didn't recognize. "Where did you find those? Are those from your closet? They're not going to fit me-"

"No. Remember when I bought you those clothes about seven or eight months ago? The ones you never wore?"

Oh yeah. Lance had gone on a kick buying clothes he said would show off my body better than the "boring clothes" I wore to work. They were work appropriate but, they were quite a bit tighter than what I wore. They were especially tighter than what everyone on Mercado's team wore. However, since I wasn't on Mercado's team right now and we were going to a club after work, maybe it wouldn't be so bad.

"Okay, I'll try them on. But if they're indecent I'm not wearing them."

"They're not fucking indecent. You're just too damn conservative. How the hell are you going to catch a hot guy if you can't show off your body? How are they going to even know what you've got under your clothes? Get those on in five minutes because I still need to do your hair ." Lance closed the door and I rolled my eyes. Again.

He did have a point, although I wasn't sure if I even wanted to attract any alphas anymore. The alphas I had dated were awful and I didn't think anyone existed like the man I wanted. Except for Marcus, that is. But he was out of my league and completely unattainable thanks to us working for the same company.

I put on the slacks which were fitted but not tight, and the white button-down shirt with French cuffs. It looked classy but exciting. I opened the door and walked out. "I've got the clothes on but I don't think I can wear a tie with this shirt."

Lance came out of the bathroom and whistled. "Hot damn. Didn't I tell you about clothes making the man? Come here and look at yourself in the mirror."

Whatever. Lance was always telling me that I was hot and that I needed to dress better. We had been friends since college so I'm sure he was just saying that.

I walked in the bathroom and stopped. Holy crap. I turned sideways and looked. Maybe there was something to dressing better after all.

"See? What did I tell you? Now sit down on the toilet over there so I can put the stuff in your hair."

Whoever said that when you dress good, you feel good certainly knew what they were talking about. Now that I knew what I looked like in these clothes I felt more self-confident and sexy. It didn't matter if Marcus snapped at Luke and I again today, it was going to be a great day.

I didn't notice anything until I got off the subway and was walking above ground. People were giving me looks and winks. That had never happened before. It was nice to be appreciated. I was going to let myself be shallow today if I wanted to. I'd gone from having been ignored and invisible on Mercado's team to having alphas eyeing me and winking. I was going to enjoy every single fucking second of this day.

I went up to my floor and walked into my section. I got a few double takes. Hell, Eric even passed me and winked. I was flushed when I opened the doors to Marcus's section. If Eric was going to take an interest in me, I didn't know how Marcus would handle that with the way he had been snapping at Luke. He'd probably come unglued if Eric came over to talk to me, though I had to admit I was excited about getting attention from Eric.

I put my bag down and greeted Amy and Luke. Amy glanced up then snapped her head back up. "Wow! Damn boy. Do you clean up well or what?"

I flushed again and smiled. I turned around in a circle and struck a few poses. She whistled and clapped. "If I had any dollar bills I'd be shoving them in your -" She blanched and sat down.

Oh shit. I had a pretty good guess as to who was standing behind me.

I sat at my desk and turned my computer on without looking up. I did not, at all, want to see Marcus glaring at me. I would have liked to know what he thought of my new clothes though. I swore he had been looking at me with desire yesterday but that must have been a trick of the light. I didn't know when he finally walked away as I was studiously not looking anywhere but at my desk or computer. Thank God Luke hadn't been here. Marcus probably would've snapped at him again.

Marcus

Holy shit. Mrs. Foreman's hair styling must have lit a fire under him. I threw my briefcase down on my desk and stood in front of the window pulling my hair. How in the fuck was I even going to get through the day with him looking like that?. I thought he was hot before, even when he had been hiding that body. Fuck. What the hell was I going to do? I already had a hard-on just from seeing his backside for a few seconds. Okay, so it was a lot more than a few seconds.

I shook my head and walked back to my desk. I hadn't gotten that hard that fast just from a glance at someone since puberty. Shit. I was screwed. Tonight the firm was having a party at a dance club and, sonofabitch, this was not going to not end well. I'd just have to show up for an hour and then leave. I'd keep tight control of myself and stay far away from Ryan.

"Glad you could make it!" I turned to look over my shoulder at Eric. Why did he look so smug?

"What are you looking so smug about?"

Eric's smile grew even wider.

"Oh, I just happened to see a certain omega that works for the firm. My, hasn't he changed his appearance?"

Sonofabitch. I regretted ever telling Eric about my crush on Ryan. He would tease me every once in a while about it but now that Ryan looked like a hot slice,I was probably never going to hear the end of it.

"Aren't you going to party with your paralegals? You know it's always good for a boss to let their-"

"Just shut it."

Eric threw his head back and laughed. He was such a jerk. He couldn't believe that I had a crush on an employee for three years and hadn't done a damn thing about it. The firm's rule hadn't ever stopped him before.

"Come on, Marcus. You've got to get on the dance floor. Even Mercado's out there." There was no fucking-- oh my God. Mercado was indeed out on the dance floor doing a bastardization of a chicken dance, some sort of Latin dance and disco moves.

"How much has he had to drink?" Eric shook his head.

"I have no fucking idea. But I want to know how much it takes because I need to make him do that again. I don't know whether he actually thinks he's dancing or if he's doing it on purpose as a joke." We both stood there staring at Mercado. I couldn't stand the guy. I didn't think he treated his paralegals well. From what my paralegals discussed, he hadn't treated Ryan very well at all.

"Come on, down a shot and get out on the dance floor. I'm not going to be out there by myself surrounded by the paralegals. You know Meredith would be on me in a heartbeat."

I smirked. She watched Eric like a hawk at off-site events like these. Eric was too smart to hit on paralegals or other attorneys here. Meredith was going to have to get sneakier if she was going to catch Eric at his game.

I grabbed a shot and slammed it down. I took off my suit jacket and tie, then rolled up my sleeves. "You know, I think you're right. This is going to be nice to dance without a big crowd or omegas trying to hang onto me." Eric smacked me on the shoulder.

"I knew you'd come around. Do another shot and let's get out. I asked the DJ to play Black Skinhead by Kanye West. You know how I love that song."

If Eric was requesting that song, it was going to get crazy. It could only mean he was hell bent on partying hard tonight. I couldn't remember the last time we had had fun dancing without a care. Damn, it was a long time ago. Probably one of those last nights at law school. We woke up on someone's lawn in Canada. I smacked Eric on the back.

"All right let's do it." Never let it be said that any other law firm could out party ours. Eric and I could be devil twins when we wanted to be. We had some damn good times in college, and it always started on the dance floor.
