Left For Dead: Shifters of Alaska Book 3 by Gisele St. Claire (17)

Chapter 17

It was almost mid-afternoon and Isaiah couldn’t stand to watch Olivia pacing up and down the floor in anticipation. If it were up to her, she would of have been out the door and outside tracking the rogue.

He wouldn’t let her. Not alone. It was too risky.

Isaiah didn’t know if there were other wolves that had taken the serum, and they wouldn’t be able to kill him with the serum still in his system.

They had to inject him with the antidote first and let it take effect which would take several hours, according to what the old man told them.

A moment later, there was a knock on the front door and then he watched the door swing open and two of his brothers entered.

“Hey, bro!” Lucas smiled with Alex in tow behind him.

Isaiah took a few strides towards them. He grabbed Alexs' hand for a friendly handshake and they bumped shoulders and then he did the same with Lucas. “Thanks for coming guys. I really appreciate it.”

Isaiah watched the grin that spread across Lucas’s face. He turned to see what he was looking at. “Who the hell is this gorgeous lady?” Lucas said and then whistled. “You’ve been holding back big brother!”

Isaiah let out a chuckle and walked towards Olivia and said, “This is Olivia Elford.” Isaiah looked at Olivia and said, “These are my brothers, Lucas and Alex. Well two of them anyway.”

“It’s nice to meet you both,” she said, holding out her hand to shake theirs.

Lucas immediately grabbed it and kissed the top, making her smile, and said, “The pleasure is all mine.”

Isaiah laughed out loud and watched Alex shove his brother aside, grabbing her hand next. “Don’t mind our little brother Olivia. He doesn't get out much. It’s a pleasure meeting you.”

Olivia laughed and then turned to look at Isaiah with a serious look. “What is going on?”

“We’re here for support.” Lucas blurted out as he made his way to the sectional.

“I’m sorry. I don’t mean to be rude, but we don’t need your support.” She said with assurance.

“Feisty!”

“Shut the fuck up Lucas!” Isaiah growled at his little brother and then turned to Olivia. “Look. We don’t know if the rogue is solo or not. He may have more with him and we can’t take that chance. I asked the guys to come up for the night and while we lure him out, they’ll only be out there as a backup if something goes wrong.” Isaiah said, watching as Olivia’s face tensed. She didn’t want to put anyone else’s lives in danger, but he knew that back up was necessary, even if it was just from the conversation with Romulus earlier that day.

She tucked a long strand behind her ear and then gazed at Alex, Lucas and then back to Isaiah. Taking a long breath, she finally said, “Okay. Fill them in. I’m going to prepare the syringes with the antidote. We need to get outside soon.”

Isaiah bent down and gave her a kiss on the forehead and said, “Everything will work out. I promise.” She gave him a weak smile and retreated into the kitchen a moment later.

He ran a hand through his hair and then grabbed a seat on the sectional with his brothers. Lucas still wore a huge grin on his face and Isaiah finally said in annoyance, “What?”

“Where the hell did she come from man? She’s gorgeous!”

Isaiah laughed, “You’ll never change Lucas. She is the one I found almost dead in the ditch a week ago. Mom didn’t tell you guys?”

“Very little,” Alex said and started looking around the room with a frown on his face. “Where’s Zeus?”

Isaiah breathed deeply, exhaling slow before replying in a low, tone. “Dead. The rogue killed him last night.”

“Jesus. I’m sorry man.” Alex said. Isaiah felt Lucas pat his back in sympathy. “Me too Isaiah. I loved Zeus. We’ll miss him.”

Isaiah could feel his temper prickle over his skin at the mention of Zeus, but he knew the sooner his brothers knew the entire story, the quicker they could take care of the problem. He sat on the edge of the sectional and looked at both of them and began to explain in detail, the events that happened over the last week.

Olivia walked into the kitchen, opening and closing her hands and then clenching them into fists. She was ready to kill something. She didn’t want or need any other people involved in this mess. She was terrified that someone else would get hurt and she would be the one responsible. She grabbed the black case that contained the antidote and needles. She sat at the kitchen table and pulled out the vial and inserted the tip of the needle into gray rubber seal drawing the red liquid into the first syringe.

Olivia drew several more and laid the last one on the table. She had 5 syringes ready to go and there was still enough to fill at least two more syringes if they needed it. Twenty minutes later she packed up everything and placed it into a black case securing everything when she heard someone clear their throat behind her. She turned around to see Lucas standing there looking at her.

Her eyes swept over him from head to toe. He was just as tall as Isaiah, over six foot and his shoulders were broad and muscular through his t-shirt. His dark black hair laid messy and tousled around his face. But his eyes were the greenest she had ever seen. Lucas and Alex were both drop dead gorgeous, but she found Isaiah possessed an attraction that she didn’t find in his two brothers.

“Sorry to interrupt,” he said in a low deep voice. His hands slipped into his pants pockets.

Olivia grabbed the bag off the table and said, “It’s okay. I’m finished.”

She watched him scratch the back of his neck and then look at her again. “I’m really sorry about what happened to your father.”

Olivia struggled to pull her eyes off of him, but still, she managed a smile before replying, “Thank you. It happened awhile ago.”

“I just wanted you to know that we won’t be in your way. We’ll just be in the shadows watching. Nothing more. Isaiah explained how important this is to you.”

She took two steps towards him and laid her hand on his arm. “Thank you. That means a lot. You're Isaiah’s brothers, I trust you.” She said, giving him a tender smile.

She watched a sly smile appear across his full lips and then he said, “Ok then. Now if you ever decide to kick Isaiah to the curb, I’m available.”

“Oh, my god. You're too much!” Olivia laughed as they both walked back into the living room. She looked at Isaiah and said, “I’ve known your brothers for about half an hour and this one has already grown on me.” She smiled and wrapped an arm around Lucas.

They all laughed and began to discuss the plan that would unfold just after dinner time. Olivia could feel the apprehension that twisted in her gut at the thought of taking out this rogue once and for all. The only thing that truly played on her mind were Isaiah’s words. Whether the rogue was the only one to use the C34.

The only way they would know for certain is after they captured him, injected him with the antidote and questioned him. Even then there was still no way to know for sure.
