Left For Dead: Shifters of Alaska Book 3 by Gisele St. Claire (23)

Chapter 24

Olivia stepped out the shower and dried herself off with a towel Isaiah had left for her. She stood naked in front of the mirror as she towel dried her hair. Even though she felt no remorse, she could see sadness in her eyes. Avenging her father was always her plan and she knew deep down that if they had let the rogue go, he would find a way to replicate the serum and kill again.

Shit, he would kill again regardless. You could see it in his eyes. It was part of his DNA as far as she was concerned.

She ran a hand through her hair, whispering, “It’s over, you really have to stop judging yourself. You know you did the right thing.” Olivia breathed in deeply, closing her eyes. She knew that it was killing the rogue that made her feel like this, she’d killed the other wolf before, it was the fact that her father was gone and nothing could change that; nothing could bring him back.

Opening her eyes, she pulled on a tank top and her pj bottoms. She tied her hair into a messy bun, walking out of the bathroom. She wanted to be comfortable, more than anything else. When she started making her way to join Isaiah in the bedroom, she looked over the balcony, where below she saw Lucas and Alex below, watching T.V and talking quietly.

She entered the bedroom and her eyes fell on Isaiah sitting on the edge of the bed. “Hey. You okay?” He asked.

Olivia bent down and shoved her clothes into her duffle bag and walked over to him. She sat down beside him on the edge of the bed and said, “I’ll be okay.”

She tried to give him a smile, but even she knew it was a pathetic attempt.

She felt his hand rub the small of her back and then say, “It’ll get better Olivia. It won’t bring your dad back, but with time, you’ll heal. You’ll be able to be at peace now. I hope so anyway.”

Olivia tilted her head and looked at him. “I think so. My dad will never physically be with me, but he will always remain a part of me. That’s the one thing the rogue could never take away.”

Isaiah leaned in and kissed the top of her forehead. “I’m exhausted.”

“Yeah. Me too.” She said crawling under the covers.

“Have you heard any more about the rogue's brother?” She said curling up to Isaiah as he wrapped her up in his arms.

Isaiah looked down at her and said, “They let him go. He had no idea about the serum and he was just a kid according to Jaxson. Maybe twenty. They said he wouldn’t be an issue and I trust them.”

They both laid in bed staring at the ceiling for a moment when Isaiah finally turned off the nightstand light. Olivia finally closed her eyes falling into a deep sleep.

**

Olivia opened her eyes to see the sun pouring in through the bedroom window. She rolled over to see Isaiah still sleeping. She smiled to herself thinking about how lucky she was to have Isaiah fall into her life so quickly. She leaned over and kissed him on the lips and then ran her tongue along his bottom lip.

She watched him open his eyes slowly and smile. “Good morning.”

“Morning.” She said propping up on an elbow.

Isaiah leaned up against the headboard and sniffed the air. “Someone’s cooking.”

“I know. It smells delicious. Let’s go eat.” She said swinging her legs over the bed and heading out the bedroom door.

She started down the stairs with Isaiah behind her and the aroma of bacon and hashbrowns wafted around her nose. She could hear her stomach growl as she reached the bottom landing.

They both walked into the kitchen to find Lucas at the stove, humming to the radio and Alex drinking his coffee at the kitchen table.

“Good morning. It smells delicious!” Olivia said standing beside Lucas.

“Of course it does!” Lucas said smiling. “How did you guys sleep?”

“Good,” Isaiah said grabbing a cup of coffee.

Olivia and Isaiah sat at the kitchen table and Lucas served everyone a full plate of eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and toast. They sat and ate when Alex finally looked at Isaiah, then outside and asked, “What are the plans today?”

“I’ll take care of it. You guys can head back to Greyson Falls. Mom’s expecting you.” He said taking another bite of his food.

Lucas pointed his fork to Olivia and Isaiah and said, “She’s expecting both of you as well. We’ll help and then head out, okay?” He raised an eyebrow at both of them.

Olivia looked at Isaiah and felt a little queasy. “I think I’ll just stay here. I haven’t been back at my apartment for awhile and there is a ton of stuff I have to catch up on.”

Lucas let out a deep laugh. “Oh no, you don’t. You're not getting out of this. Mom wants to meet you. We can’t disappoint her.” Lucas said leaning into his chair and giving her a frown.

Olivia couldn’t help but laugh and look at Isaiah again. She watched him shrug his shoulders and he finally said, “He’s right, Olivia. She wants to meet you and I did tell her I would bring you.”

Alex leaned over the table, looking at Olivia. “Don’t worry; our family doesn’t bite. She’ll love you.”

She smiled at Alex comment but still felt uneasy. She hadn’t been around any family in such a long time that she really didn’t know what to expect. But she knew she had strong feelings for Isaiah and if he wanted her to go, she would, for him.

She looked at each of them and smiled and said, “Fine, but just one night, okay?”

“Agreed!”

They had all finished up breakfast and Olivia did the dishes while the men took care of the shed. Isaiah came up from behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, planting a kiss on her neck.

Olivia loved the way he made her feel. Now that she could put the one issue that has always hung over her like a dark cloud she could now focus on her life again.

She smiled at the thought of a new beginning. A new life.

A new life with Isaiah.
