Left For Dead: Shifters of Alaska Book 3 by Gisele St. Claire (22)

Chapter 23

An hour had passed when Isaiah and Alex had returned inside. Olivia looked up at both and had instantly noticed their blood-soaked clothes. She stood and said, “Tell me he’s still alive?” Her hands rested on her hips with an eyebrow cocked.

“Yes. He’s in a lot of pain right now.” Isaiah said walking into the living room. “He still wouldn’t talk, but it doesn’t matter. Jaxson called.” He said taking a breath. “They spotted a wolf hiding out on the property. Drake and Jaxson beat him up pretty bad. It’s the rogue’s little brother.”

Olivia stood and asked, “Does he have the C34 in his system?”

“Doesn’t look like it. From what Jaxson said, he was told this morning to watch both of our parents and find out their names. If he didn’t hear from his brother in 24 hours, he was ordered to kill both of them.” Isaiah walked passed Olivia and said, “I have to change my clothes. He’s all yours. Alex will go with you.”

Olivia took him by the arm as he tried to push past her, pulling him closer to her. Isaiah looked down at her, his eyes intense, stern and angry. He had light spots of blood speckled across his chin and right cheekbone. She brought a hand up to the opposite cheekbone, cupping it in the palm, whispering. “Are you okay?

Isaiah leaned down, gently kissing her on the lips. Though he pretended he didn’t need it, he could use the comfort right about now. “I’m okay. Just need to change.” He said, heading for the stairs.

She stood there rooted to her spot watching him walk up the stairs to the second level. Olivia could see he was not fine. She didn’t know what Isaiah’s past involved, whether he had killed before or had to protect others from rogues or attacks. From what she knew from his history, he hadn’t been involved in anything so sinister due to his business and fame. He was just too busy.

She sucked in a breath and turned looking at Alex and Lucas.

“He’ll be fine,” Alex said.

“He doesn’t look fine.”

She watched Alex walk in front of her and point towards the kitchen door - indicating the shed. “What he just did in there, that doesn’t bother him, Olivia. He’s a wolf and killing, having an aggressive behavior comes naturally to us. Shit, we’ve had our fair share of fights and kills.”

She ran a hand through her hair and then looked up at him. “Then what is it?”

“Our family is everything. We are extremely close and to lose one of us, especially one of our parents has got him rattled. Isaiah has been gone for so long since he started his business with Matt. He’s become famous and this—” He said pointing to the back door again, “Hasn’t been a part of his life for a long time. He’s not used to it.”

Alex paused for a moment. “Isaiah will be fine Olivia. Just let him do his thing.”

He grabbed her by her elbow and said, “Come on. Let’s get this done.”

Olivia nodded and headed to the kitchen with Alex. She just hoped that Alex was right. That he just needed time to absorb what was happening. She would have never been able to forgive herself if anything had happened to his family because of her. It wasn’t his fight, it was hers, but it was too late now. He was already smack dab in the middle of things.

She could only pray that his brothers in Greyson Falls had the rogue’s brother and that there was no one else planning or plotting to hurt anymore Averys.

Alex opened the shed door and held it open for her. She closed it behind her taking a step inside. Her eyes grew wide at the sight before her. There was blood everywhere. Isaiah had used his claws on the rogue to make him talk. The cuts were on every part of his body, some smaller than others, but then some were very deep and still bleeding. The rogues head hung low, hair hanging everywhere around him. She could see his face rise and fall with every shallow breath of air he took. She took a step closer, lifting his chin with the tip of her finger so that she could see his face.

Each side had claw marks, completely covering his face with blood. The rest of him wasn’t up to par either; his hands were mangled, fingers cut off, chest and arms broken, or ripped to shreds. It was almost a miracle that he hadn’t died of blood loss by now. She watched him, slowly opening his eyes, before giving her a small smile.

“Oh, I wouldn’t be smiling if I were you.” She said in a small whisper.

“You won’t kill me. If you do, their parents die.” He grunted.

Olivia held a finger to her lips tapping them and then she said, “Tsk, tsk, tsk. That’s one family you shouldn’t have fucked with. Your little brother is already gone.”

She watched his eyes turn into slivers. She could see the anger run across his face again. “You’re lying!” He hissed.

Olivia turned and looked at Alex and then back at the rogue. “You’ll never know.” Her claws extracted at her sides. “This is for my father!” She growled. Her hand came up and cut the carotid artery in his neck so fast the rogue didn’t even see it coming.

Olivia watched as the blood began to pour at a rapid rate, with the rogue beginning to gasp for air. His body contorted, suffocating on his own blood, but she felt no sympathy, not even as she watched the life drain from his eyes.

It was finally done. An eye for an eye just like she had promised her father. Olivia knew that this was the only way. If she had let him live, more lives would have been at stake and she couldn’t bear to have that burden on her shoulders. She didn’t have any remorse or guilt for what she had just done.

She just wanted to put this nightmare behind her and grieve her father like any other person. Now she could. This was the final closure for her. She turned and looked at Alex who already had the shed door open, holding it for her.

“Ready?” He asked.

Olivia nodded and walked past him, heading for the house. She looked at her watch; it was already going on midnight. All she wanted to do was have a shower and curl up with Isaiah.

As she walked into the living room and looked at Lucas and then Isaiah with a somber expression and said, “It’s done.”
