Left For Dead: Shifters of Alaska Book 3 by Gisele St. Claire (21)

Chapter 21

Isaiah rushed back into the house, almost ripping the door off its hinges as Alex followed behind him. He raced into the living room and his eyes scanned the room for his phone. “Where the fuck is it!” He yelled, throwing everything off the dining room table.

“What’s going on?” Lucas asked frowning.

Isaiah pushed some papers aside on the coffee table in front of the sectional and found his phone. He breathed in a breath and dialed his parents and put the phone on speaker. Isaiah sat down in the armchair and raked a hand through his hair as he waited for someone to pick up.

“What the fuck is going on!” Lucas asked frowning. He looked from one brother to the next when Alex finally answered. “He’s threatened our family. He knows mom and dad by their names.”

“Hi, honey!” Ana’s voice came through the phone loud and clear.

Isaiah looked at his brothers as relief washed over him and said, “Hey Mom. Is everything okay there?”

“Of course. Why?”

“Where’s Dad?”

“Watching the hockey game. What’s going on, Isaiah? Something’s wrong - isn’t it?”

“Hey, Mom. It’s Alex. You’re on speaker. Everything is fine. Just wanted to check in. We’ll be back in Greyson Falls in a few days. Can you make some of your famous roast for us?”

“You boys are horrible at hiding your emotions. Even through the phone. Call me before you leave and I’ll have the roast ready for you boys. Isaiah?”

“Yes, Mom.” He said looking at Alex.

“Bring the new girl. I want to meet her.”

Isaiah smiled and looked up at Olivia who was leaning up against the wall. “Sure Mom. Have a good night. Love you.”

“Bye boys.”

The phone went silent as they both hung up and Isaiah looked around the room deep in thought.

“What are you thinking?” Alex asked as he paced the floor.

“He’s been there. He knows them or has someone watching them. They’re not safe.” He said standing up.

Lucas looked at his brothers and said, “Call Jaxson. He can set up a watch until we get back home. Is the rogue dead?”

“Not yet,” Olivia replied.

Isaiah quickly called his oldest brother and explained the situation to him. Jaxson assured Isaiah that he would rally the boys and watch their parents until they could get to Greyson Falls and figure out what the hell was going on.

The rogue could be calling a bluff in regard to harming them. Maybe he did go to his hometown and found his parents. It wasn’t rocket science to figure out who Isaiah was and then figure out where he was from and who his family was.

What he needed to know is if the rogue had someone there waiting to take one of them out. Was there another rogue that had C34 in their system?

His gut told him that he would never find out. He sensed that the rogue in the shed wasn’t worried about staying alive or dying and he wasn’t budging in the information department either.

He walked into the kitchen and grabbed a beer. Twisting the cap off he took a long pull from his beer and wiped his lips with his arm. He turned and watched Olivia stand in front of him.

“Are you okay?” She asked, frowning at him.

“Honestly, no.” He said, taking another swig of his beer.

“I’m so sorry, Isaiah. I never wanted you or your family mixed up in this.” She said, concern flushing over her. It was true; she didn’t want to get his family involved because they had nothing to do with this. This was between the rogue and herself, and now because of her, Isaiah’s family was endangered, Lucas nearly died, and he lost his dog. What more could he face at the hands of her rivalry with the rogue?

“I just don’t know what to believe or if they’ll be safe. Either he found out who I was and then tracked down my family to have some leverage or he has someone doing it for him, which means more wolves have access to the C34.” He wondered if it could be due to Sylvie Warren. That would make the most sense, especially after considering the conversation with Romulus. He’d forgotten about everything that happened back in the past. How Sylvie lost everything, and now, why wouldn’t she want to take anyone and everyone she could with her? But she would be going after the Kodiak’s, so why waste her time on getting anyone to watch him and Olivia? They meant nothing to this whole fight between packs.

She walked over and took a seat at the table. “So what now?”

Isaiah downed the rest of his beer and laid it on the counter. “Now we question him, and not very nicely either. I’m going to make him talk.” He grabbed the handle to the door and turned back to look at Olivia and said, “You may want to stay here. I don’t think you’ll like what I have in store for him.”

“I’ll stay here for a bit and let you question him but don’t kill him. Come get me when you're done.”

Isaiah nodded and looked at Alex who had just entered the kitchen and said, “We’re up! Let’s get this done.”

Olivia grabbed two beers from the fridge and headed into the living room. She sat down on the sectional beside Lucas and passed him one.

“Thanks.” He said, taking a swig. “What did the rogue say?”

“Honestly. Not much. He looked at your brothers and said Ana and Nelson said Hi.” She said taking a sip. “He’s definitely covered his tracks if we take him out.”

Lucas palmed the back of his neck and looked at Olivia. “You think he has people in Greyson watching them?”

“I do. This is not my first play with this guy. He is cautious and calculated and he doesn’t have any emotion. He just loves to kill and he made it clear he doesn’t give a shit if we kill him.” She said, looking around the room.

Even as she breathed, her body trembled at the thoughts that were running through her head.

“What is it?”

She tilted her head towards Lucas and said, “I’m just sorry it came to this. Involving your brother, you and your family. This is not how it was supposed to play out.”

Lucas took another drink from his beer. “We have a large family, Olivia. If anyone is going to get hurt, it’s him and his friends.”

“I hope so, Lucas.” She said, taking another swig. In the back of her mind, she had an unnerving feeling that something larger was at play and regardless if they killed the rogue or not, this game wasn’t over.
