Left For Dead: Shifters of Alaska Book 3 by Gisele St. Claire (19)

Chapter 19

“In the bathroom, under the sink, grab the mason jar that is filled with clay,” Isaiah yelled while holding Lucas’s neck tightly. Olivia could see the blood seeping through Isaiah’s fingers.

She shot into action and took two steps at a time up the stairs, grabbing towels and the mason jar.

She returned a moment later giving the jar to Isaiah while she pressed a towel against Lucas’s neck. “The jugular has been nicked.” She watched Isaiah scoop out a handful of clay.

“Move the towel.” His voice was low but rushed as he patted the clay thickly where the wound was located. “Ok. Continue to put pressure on it with the towel for another ten minutes. This should stop the bleeding fairly quickly. I have to go see Alex.”

Olivia looked at Isaiah like he had two heads. “No. I’ll go.”

Isaiah turned up to face Olivia, keeping the clay pressed firmly against his brother’s neck until it was taken over. A hand rose up from below, cupping her cheek. “Look at me.” He said, turning her to look at him. “I’m not going to do anything but make sure he is bound and secure. He’ll be awake soon and I certainly don’t want him going anywhere. Okay?”

Olivia sucked in a deep breath and whispered, “Okay. Hurry back.”

She watched as Isaiah made his way out of the room. Apart from Lucas, it was all a success. What more could she ask for, since his wounds would heal soon. The clay that was used on her would work on him all the same, which meant that there was nothing that would keep him down for too long. She brushed strands of blood soaked hair off of his forehead and out of his face with her free hand. His eyes were fluttering, flicking back and forth as if he was going through the symptoms of some kind of withdrawal, or even drugged for that matter.

“Hey,” she said, smiling.

Lucas was about to say something when Olivia’s finger pressed against his lips. “Don’t talk right now. Just rest, okay. Isaiah and Alex have the rogue in the storage shed. They are tying him up now as we speak. Alex injected him with the antidote.” Her fingers brushed more hair out of his face as a smile played at the corners of Lucas’s lips. He closed his eyes again and Olivia sat there silently, watching him and wondering if the rogue had awoken or not.

**

Twenty minutes had passed by the time Alex and Isaiah had come back into the house. Isaiah walked over to her and passed her a beer. “Here, drink this. I think we all need one right about now.”

Olivia grabbed it and took a swig and then said, “Thanks.” She watched Alex sit down in the armchair and Isaiah grab a seat at the end of the sectional.

“How’s Lucas? Did the bleeding stop?”

Olivia nudged Lucas’s head to the right so Isaiah could see his neck. “It’s good. Whatever is in that clay, it’s working,” she said, looking at Isaiah. “Is the rogue awake?”

“Not yet. He’s not going anywhere, though. His wrists and ankles are chained.” He said. Isaiah took a long pull from his beer and stole a quick glance at Alex before turning back to Lucas.

Olivia caught the silent communication between the two and cocked an eyebrow. “Spit it out, guys. What’s going on?” She asked looking straight at Isaiah and then Alex.

She watched Isaiah stand and look at his brother and then turn to her. “We were talking in the shed and well, we’re just not sure if killing him is the answer.”

Olivia’s face grew sour. Her eyes narrowed in frustration at this revelation. This was her one chance to get revenge on the man who killed her father and now they wanted to take this away from her? Her eyes moved from Isaiah to Alex and then back again. She stood up from the chair, tilting the beer bottle up to her lips, emptying the contents down her throat. When it was finished, and every last drop that she could take had been emptied, she slammed the beer bottle against the table, splitting the glass up one side. Fury grew inside her, from what seemed to be the lack of understanding in the brothers. She needed to get her revenge and the only way would be to kill the bastard that killed her father. She thought, if no one else, Isaiah would understand this because of what happened to Zeus.

“Killing him is the fucking answer! An eye for an eye.” She hissed at them. She took a step towards Isaiah, pointing her finger at his chest. “If you fucking think for a second I'll let him go; you're insane.” She turned, her eyes now trained on Alex. “We appreciate your help, but it’s no longer needed or your opinion. This has everything to do with my father, my group and that rogue. Nothing else. Do you both understand?” She growled cocking a perfectly tweezed eyebrow.

An awkward silence swept over the room. “She’s right, guys. He can’t live.” Lucas whispered.

Isaiah looked at Lucas and then moved to kneel down beside him. “Hey, how are you doing?”

“I’m good. But she’s right. He has taken too many innocent lives and what stops him from doing that again? There are no guarantees.” He said, trying to push himself up.

Olivia grabbed Lucas by his arm and helped him up as everyone let his words sink in. She ran a hand through her hair and took in a deep breath.

“Listen.” She said grabbing a seat beside Lucas. “You guys have no idea what it feels like to have the only person left that you loved brutally killed right before your eyes. That rogue took everything from me and I have been trying to avenge my father for over a year and a half now.” She paused looking around at each of them. She held up her hand pointing at each of them and said, “You have a family, people who love you. I have nothing! He took that from me.” She steepled her fingers and pressed them to her lips trying to hold back the tears that were on the verge of flowing over. “I have to do this whether you agree or not.”

She felt a hand on her shoulder and looked up. Isaiah was standing in front of her with his hand held out. She took it and he pulled her up to his chest. “You’re not alone. You have me, Olivia.”

Olivia gasped and the tears suddenly started rolling down her cheeks as he pulled her into a tight bear hug not letting go. “You have us too, Olivia. Isaiah’s family is your family.” Alex said while Lucas nodded in agreement. She pushed away from Isaiah looking at his brothers and choked out a little laugh. She looked back up at Isaiah and kissed him gently on the lips. Releasing him, she took in a breath and said, “Thank you.” She sat back down beside Lucas and asked, “You’re all with me then?”

She looked around the room at the three brothers while they nodded yes in agreement. She couldn’t help the smile that formed at the corners of her lips and then a second later, all their heads jerked to the kitchen. Echoed screaming from outside seeped into the room. The rogue was awake. It was time for him to answer questions.
