Love in Overtime: A Second Chance Romance by Sloane Easton (20)

Ryan

I woke up snuggled in Tucker’s arms. I could feel his hardness against my ass and his warm breath against my neck. I smiled and took a deep breath, reveling in the moment.

I couldn’t believe my dream man was finally mine. He had said he loved me. Then he showed me how much. This beautiful blond god with a heart of gold, this treasure of a human being, this brave, sweet man loved me. Me.

I had won the love lottery. No question.

We were no longer virgins. We had discovered and played with each other all night long. Every sensation was new and yet felt familiar. It felt like we were one soul now. How could I have known sex was so much more than what I had fantasized it to be? Love made it transcend into something spiritual.

I slipped out of Tucker’s arms and slowly removed myself from the sheets. My legs felt wobbly, my entire body tired from the workout we had all night long. I noticed all three dogs laying at the foot of the bed, staring at me curiously.

I pulled on a robe I had laying on a chair nearby, slipped my feet into my slippers and put my finger to my lips, asking the dogs to remain silent. I waved them on to follow me, and each one did so, jumping down from the bed, with old Duke sliding down face first, as he preferred to do these days. How the three of them ended up in our bed was a mystery. I could’ve sworn we had shut the door, which I noticed was now wide open.

They followed me down the hall and then passed me to disappear out the dog door. Seeing that they could take care of themselves, I headed to the kitchen. I decided I would surprise Tucker with breakfast in bed. It was the least I could do after that man took me to heaven.

As I made coffee, I heard playful barks from the two younger dogs coming from outside. I noticed Duke saunter on into the kitchen toward the raised water and food bowls. There he drank. I reached down and gave him a few ear scritches. He raised his weary head, his eyes still light with love, then returned to his drinking. He was a good old dog.

I started the hash browns, sliced up some avocados and oranges, then started plating what I had so far. Bessie and Morgan came running in as I was turning the hash browns. Morgan greeted me with an ‘a roo roo.

“Well, good morning, Morgan. How are you today?”

She answered with a ‘roof-ro.

“Oh, really? Well, let me see what I can do about that.”

Bessie tilted her head as if she were trying to understand our conversation.

I noticed the food bowl was empty and filled it back up. Duke was laying under the kitchen table, while the two girls shared from the bowl. I pet both of their heads then returned to the stove.

I plated the hash browns beside the avocado and orange slices, then drizzled olive oil in the pan I had cooked them in before grabbing eggs from the fridge. I made perfect over-easy eggs then slid them onto the plates, completing the dish.

I put the two plates on a wicker breakfast tray, followed by two cups of black coffee. Then I took a small vase from the shelf above the sink, filled it with water, and picked one sunflower from the bouquet on the coffee table that Tucker had given me. I trimmed its stem with the kitchen shears and placed it in the vase. I added a couple of linen napkins and a small spice shaker, then picked the tray up and proceeded back to the bedroom where Tucker was still fast asleep.

I cleared my throat.

Tucker stirred, turned to lay on his back, then rubbed his eyes. “Hey. Whatcha doing? What do you have there?”

I walked over to him and placed the tray gently beside him. “Good morning, love. I thought maybe I’d give you a little surprise. I hope you’re hungry.”

Tucker looked over the food tray, then back at me. “I’m famished… for you.” He grinned.

I giggled. “Please, Tucker. I can barely stand.”

He laughed. “Okay then, have a seat. I promise I won’t bite… for now.”

I sat beside him after placing pillows behind his back, helping him to sit up.

We fed each other the avocados and oranges, laughing the entire time. I think he was relishing this moment as much as I was.

We ate in silence, occasionally exchanging glances. When he finished eating, he wiped his mouth and asked, “Where are all of the dogs?”

“They’re having their own breakfast right now. Did you know they slept with us last night?”

“Yeah, I seem to recall them climbing in sometime in the night. All three of them, right?”

“Yeah. Guess it’s good I have a king-sized bed.”

“Indeed. Now why would a single guy have such a large bed, I wonder?”

I grinned, wiped my mouth with my napkin and placed it on the tray. “Well, I let all the animals I train sleep with me. There was a time I had five dogs in bed with me at once. It can get crowded here!”

“Uh huh. I bet.” Tucker winked at me. “So, how about dessert?”

“For breakfast?”

He slid the tray down to the foot of the bed, then came back up and managed to slide me down flat on my back. “Yeah, for breakfast. You are my dessert, lover boy.” He then started kissing my neck and cheek.

“Oh,” was all I could manage as a reply.

Let’s just say he had his dessert. And then some.
