Love in Overtime: A Second Chance Romance by Sloane Easton (4)

Ryan

After saying my awkward goodbyes at the Lee household, I made my way home more determined than ever. I would make Tucker come around and I would get him a therapy dog. I would have him back in my life. I knew he wanted it, and I wanted it too.

I put the bag of leftovers Mama Lee had given me into my empty fridge and decided to take a shower. I was pretty sure I was still sporting a bulge from seeing Tucker again. I needed a release and fast.

Bessie followed me into my bedroom and jumped up to lay beside my old hound dog resting on top of my bed. I told her to stay then headed inside the master bath to shed off my clothes.

I jumped inside the large shower and turned the water on, anxious to start my fantasizing of the only man I would ever love or want.

I imagined what his touch felt like, wondered how it’d feel to be in his strong and capable arms again. I often thought back on one of our last times together, before he decided to focus entirely on his career. We had both just graduated, and we were alone in his truck. We had parked at the beach, somewhere desolate where we wouldn’t have been disturbed.

We had touched each other all over, his muscles leaner than they were now, but still incredible. He was kissing my neck deeply, sending tingles throughout my body.

Both of us were so hard, and we were both well aware of it, touching each other’s crotches with only a fabric barrier stopping us.

Back then, Tucker had held back. He had told me it wouldn’t have been fair of him to go any further if he was going to have to leave me not long after to pursue college football. But in my fantasy, nothing held him back, and he instead pulled my zipper down and gave me what I had always wanted, his lips on my cock, and soon after, his length inside me.

Though I had fantasized about this moment more times than I could count, I had never grown tired of it. It was pretty much guaranteed to get me off.

And this time was no different. I came hard, then just stood there as the warm water ran down my spent body.

Eventually I stepped out and toweled off the water, feeling somewhat relieved for the moment. I grabbed the thick robe that always felt like a hug to me and wrapped myself inside its warm softness. I then slipped my feet into a pair of cozy slippers that complemented the terry white robe, then made my way to my bed.

I leaned over and petted a snoring Duke. He opened one cataract eye at me, then closed it slowly, returning to his snoring. Bessie jumped down from her spot beside Duke onto the floor, ready to follow me wherever I went. I smiled and decided I would snack on some leftovers before taking a nap. So I left for the kitchen.

The phone rang as I was on my way to the fridge. I grabbed the cordless phone as I passed my small table. “Hello?”

I opened the fridge and was just about to reach inside when I heard Tucker’s unmistakable sultry voice, “Hey, it’s me.”

My arm quickly returned to my side. I shut the door, and hurried my way to a kitchen chair. I was in shock, not expecting him to call. “Uh, hi, Tucker.”

I heard him breathing heavily, then he sighed. “Listen, I’m sorry for how I acted today. I was rude to you. I could’ve hurt you too. I’m not my own person these days, but that’s no excuse.”

I closed my eyes, savoring his voice, savoring the moment, because this was the best sign: He had decided to take the first step and call me.

I was so lost in my thoughts that it took me a moment to realize that he was waiting for a response. “Oh. It’s okay. It’s all good. I understand.”

“Thank you, Ryan. You’re being very gracious.”

I giggled. “Nah, it’s nothing. I was very happy to see you again. And I hope you have thought about my offer some more?”

“Yes, I have. And I would very much like to look into getting a therapy dog, and having your help.”

“Absolutely. I have a dog to drop off this week. I’ll have to make sure it’s a smooth transition, but after that my slate is clean and I’m all yours.” I coughed a nervous cough, realizing what I had just said.

Tucker chuckled. “So how and when do we do this?”

“Let’s meet at the local shelter on Friday, say 1pm?”

He hesitated. “Um, I’m kind of not able to drive at the moment. I’ll have to set up a ride there.”

“Nonsense, I’ll pick you up instead. Same time. That is, if you can tell me where you live?”

He gave me his address and I grabbed my cellphone from the table to quickly enter the information into my map app. “Great. I’ll see you Friday.”

“Friday it is.” Tucker then hung up rather abruptly. I guess our business had concluded.

I chuckled. At least I found his newfound awkwardness to be endearing.

Thursday came and I met up with young Davey at his parents’ house with the small poodle in tow.

“Hello, Ryan,” Davey’s mom answered the door. Davey stood behind her, rocking. She turned to him. “Look who’s here, Davey.”

She opened the door wider and motioned for me to step in.

As I walked in with the dog, Davey started waving his hands in a circular motion. I knew that meant he was excited. “Hello,” I said. “Do you remember this pup?”

Davey’s eyes looked to his side, not making direct eye contact with me, and he replied, “I do! He’s my dog now.”

“Yes, you and the dog graduated together. Do you see his red therapy vest?”

Davey managed to take a quick look down, then his eyes glanced back to the side. “Yes.”

“That means you can take him with you anywhere now.”

Davey rocked a little, his hands still spinning. “Can I have his leash now?”

“Of course.” I handed the leash over to him.

“Thank you,” he said before he walked off to his room with his new dog.

“Thank you, Ryan,” his mom said as she watched him, tears trickling down her cheeks. “You have already helped him so much. He normally doesn’t like it when someone comes to the door, yet he came with me to greet you!”

I teared up a bit. “Davey has been one of my favorite clients. I admire his strength. He wants to go to the Gifted Games even though it scares him. That takes great courage.”

“Having a companion with him will make all the difference.”

Just then Davey’s dad joined us, holding a video camera. He shook my hand. “I hope you don’t mind, but I was in the back taping everything.”

“I don’t mind one bit. Before I go, let’s quickly check in on Davey. I want to make sure things are going smoothly before I leave.”

After I saw that Davey was sitting on the floor petting his new dog, I turned to leave.

His dad stopped me. “Please join us at the Games in May and cheer Davey on. We’d love to have you there.”

I was honored by the invitation. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” I replied with a smile.
