Opposing Briefs: An Enemies to Lovers Male/Male Romance by Ian Finn (24)

Chapter Two

Alex

I think it’s about time to watch him now.

Looking through my binoculars, it appears Elijah has just finished up a client meeting. He’s now sitting down on his chair and he begins to untie his shoes.

Elijah seems to have a routine that involves going for a run at some point in the day, but he’s often unpredictable as to a set time. It’s rare that I actually get to see him undress to put on his running clothes.

But when I do get the chance, I’m always eager to see him unbutton his trousers and watch as they fall to the floor. Seeing him standing there in his tight briefs always makes me lust after him. Those muscular legs… those thick thighs on him… and what a perfect ass. And when his shirt finally comes off…

Oh, why on Earth after all these years? …

I’ve been in love with Elijah since middle school, since our days singing in the chorus together. I can’t seem to get over him. But for some reason or another, I never got the vibe that he was interested in me.

Perhaps I was never forward enough about my feelings towards him. It’s uncanny how both of us at one time had singing aspirations and now here we are in basically the same professions.

Elijah has led a charmed life though; he doesn’t know how easy he’s had it. His father handed King Broadcasting over to him on a silver platter, whereas I worked hard and struggled for years to make my company successful, starting from the ground up. And to this day, I always get the feeling that we’re competing against each other.

Still, what I wouldn’t do to be stranded on a desert island with that man.

Now he’s bending over now as he reaches for his running shorts. Okay, I need to stop this.

I place the binoculars down and get ready for my next meeting. But in the meantime, I decide to pour myself another cup of coffee and peruse the morning paper.

The first thing I always turn to is the entertainment section, to see if there are any new auditions listed for our community theatre. And one in particular I see begins to pique my interest.

Pirates of Penzance, audition call, Thursday October 17, 6:30 p.m.

Perfect! I circle the ad and enter the date and time into my phone, all the while humming the POP melody. I’d make an excellent Pirate King, if I do say so myself.

There’s nothing I’d like better than to get that role, except maybe to star in a musical made up of songs by my favorite composer, Oliver Dubois. But since no such thing exists, I’d happily settle for Pirates of Penzance.

Suddenly I’m bounced back into reality when there’s a knock on my door and my secretary Ashley peeks her head in. “Mr. Tucker, the gentlemen have arrived for your 11:30.”

“Thanks Ashley, please send them in.”

I’m greeted by two attractive men who look to be in their mid to late 30s and who I assume are both gay men. Maybe it’s their stylish clothing and perfectly coiffed hair that give it away.

“Will Madison, Zach Taylor,” they say respectively as we shake hands. Suddenly I realize that Will looks very familiar to me.

Yes, now I remember. I ask, “We’ve met, haven’t we? Don’t you volunteer at the gay and lesbian center?”

He has a beautiful, bright smile on his face when he answers. “Yes. As a matter of fact, I do. And yes, I think we’ve talked there before. Nice to see you again.”

Will is really charming and definitely possesses a unique charisma. Hopefully they’ll have a good pitch, because I can almost see him already behind the camera.

They begin, but I get distracted when I start thinking about the musical audition. Under my breath, I begin to hum one of the songs… softly.

Or so I thought.

Then I realize Zach is speaking directly to me when he says, “Uh. Are you listening to us?”

Now thoroughly embarrassed, I apologize and tell them to continue, mumbling something about how I got so caught up in what they were talking about that I found myself breaking out into show tunes.

But instead of continuing on about their show, Zach coyly asks, “So are you a singer as well as a TV producer?”

That’s when Will looks over to Zach and discreetly tries to hold back a grin. I should just tell them to continue pitching their show, but silly me always jumps at any opportunity I can to talk about my singing.

Cheerfully, I answer, “Why yes, I am a singer. Before you guys arrived, I just spotted an upcoming audition for the community theatre. Pirates of Penzance.”

Their nods are followed by silence and awkward stares, and it’s only then that I realize how foolish I am to be talking about myself, when I should be listening to them. So, I add, “But I’m sorry, this isn’t about me. Please continue where you left off.”

Zach starts. “We’d like to call the show Morning Madison. Will would host it, and it would be somewhere along the lines of a variety show and talk show. We’d have local celebrities on, possibly singers or other forms of entertainers, we’d discuss gay and lesbian issues…”

As they continue to talk back and forth, I realize that the ideas they’re pitching to me are not unique… in fact, they’re far from it. But yet there’s a certain spark I see in Will. I think he may have natural talent and these two could definitely be worth a second look.

So I cut them off and tell them, “I like you guys. Why don’t you come back next week for a real audition? Prepare a script… something like that.”

Their no-nonsense demeanor during their presentation suddenly turns to relief and optimism when they hear me say this. Will shakes my hand and says, “Thank you. Thanks so much. We won’t disappoint. When would you like us to come in?”

As I lead them to the door I tell him, “My secretary will find an opening for you. It should be within the next week.”

After saying goodbye, I shut the door to my office and do a little dance. I’m more excited than ever about the audition for Pirates. I begin to sing a song from the production and continue dancing until I get to the window.

A strange feeling comes over me… it feels like I’m being watched. Oh, wait. I look across to King Broadcasting and see that Elijah is staring directly at me.

So, like the seasoned performer I am, I politely bow.

Elijah

As head of King Broadcasting Corporation, the largest in the country, I have everything I could ever want… except for Alexander Tucker. I’ve known Alex since middle school choir, when I used to stare at him from afar, but he never picked up on my hints.

Now, he owns Tucker Broadcasting Corporation, my biggest rival. Technically, we’re enemies, but I still stare at him from afar, since I can see into his office windows with my binoculars. That’s all I’ll ever get to do, though, because it’s clear he’s still not interested in anything other than trying to beat me in our field.

That is, until someone shows up with a whole new kind of game for us to compete in, and I can’t resist the opportunity to go head to head with the object of my unrequited love.

Alex

It was like any other day, in which I’m being pitched a show to host on my network. And it seems just like any other show, until the guys pitching it say it’s being seriously considered by Elijah King, head of my rival broadcasting corporation.

We’ve competed against each other since way back in our school chorus days, and I’ve held any other kinds of feelings for him at bay. He was better than me at singing, and that bothered me, yet intrigued me. Now Elijah and I are to compete against each other at singing to see which one of our networks can host the show. That’s an offer I can’t refuse.

But am I going to be able to refuse my burning desires for my number one rival?

Sing for Me is a standalone male/male romance novella, a prequel in the Morning Madison series. It can be read on its own, but should definitely be read with a tall glass of water nearby due to all the hot man on man action contained within it. This enemies to lovers romance has no cheating and no cliffhangers. But it does have a very happy ever after, humor, tons of sass, and musical show tune singing that would give any proper Broadway show a run for its money.
