The Alpha's Widower by Susi Hawke (15)

Laurie

“These Magic Moments”

The first four or five days of our honeymoon were okay. The food was good, the amenities amazing, and the fantastic bed in our room was like sleeping on a cloud. Dean had even been agreeable about getting couples massages every day.

Honestly, the only annoying thing about this resort was the couple in the room next door. They were a pair of guys about the same age as me and Dean, and just like us, neither of them was overly butch or slightly femme. They were simply a couple of regular guys in love, and I pretty much hated them for it.

Watching Dustin and Kirk—or the Dirk as they laughingly said their couple name should be—was an exercise in agony for me. They were everything that I wished I really had with Dean. Best friends who happened to be in love... was that really so much to ask for?

“Someone’s looking particularly bitchy today,” a voice sing-songed from the patio next door. I rolled my eyes before I turned my head to give a fake smile at Kirk, the omega in the Dirk pairing. “What’s up with you, boo? Pregnancy hormones getting you down?”

I thought about it for a second, and realized that Kirk might have a point. I rolled over on the chaise lounge I was sunning myself on, and turned to face my neighbor.

“You know what, you’re probably right. I didn’t even realize that my hormones were making me grumpy. Or that it was obvious to other people,” I added with a chagrined smile.

Kirk nimbly hopped over the half-wall separating us, and came over to drop down beside me. “Where’s your other half?”

“He went to enjoy the sauna and probably eat sushi and drink a gallon of coffee—pretty much everything that I can’t do, you know?”

“In that case, I should send Dustin to join him.” Kirk looked up at me from under his lashes with a shy smile. “I just found out this morning that I’m expecting too.”

I gave him an honest smile then, sincerely happy for him and Dustin. “Congratulations, Kirk. There’s nothing like being pregnant—except for the morning sickness, the heartburn, the stretch marks… I should probably stop talking now.”

Kirk giggled. “You forgot the bitchiness, honey. But don’t worry, I’ve watched all three of my omega siblings go through several pregnancies. I know exactly what to expect—even the attack of the raging of hornies.”

Yeah, that was pretty much the other thing that was driving me nuts. I’d been having to watch Dean be the life of the party every night as we shared meals with the Dirk and even danced a few times. Given our closeness in age, and being next door to each other, we’d been paired up with the Dirk all week.

And every night, we’d come back to our room and try to fall asleep in awkward silence while we listened to the banging of the headboard on the wall behind us. Yeah, it was enough to make anyone want to punch something, but combined with pregnancy hormones? It was fucking bullshit, is what it was.

Especially with the virile alpha who unknowingly owned my heart laying on the other side of my little pillow fort in our shared bed every night. Yeah, there were many reasons why I was in a foul mood lately.

Dustin came looking for Kirk a few minutes later, and the two of them took off together while I went back to napping in the late afternoon sunshine.

The rest of the day went a little smoother, until later that evening when Dean and I were playing a game of cribbage and watching a rerun of Supernatural. We both winced but didn’t say anything when the headboard banging commenced a little earlier than usual. No, Dean and I soldiered on and pretended not to notice, until he finally tossed his cards down after I won the final point.

“Listen, I need to get the hell out of here for a few minutes—maybe go for a drive. Do you want to come with me? Or can I bring something back for you?”

I shook my head. “I don’t want to go anywhere right now. I’m gonna go take a bath, if you don’t mind bringing me back some food? I’m not hungry, but I’ve got this weird craving for taquitos and orange sherbet. You can totally get those at 7-Eleven, and I don’t even care if the taquitos in their warmer are old—which they probably are at this time of day.”

“That’s perfect,” Dean said. “Will it piss you off if I get some beer, since you can’t drink?”

“Why would that bother me? Go for it. I don’t like beer anyway—you know that. Now try and drink some tequila in front of me, and we might get into a fight.”

Dean and I shared a grin, the silence between us going on a little too long against the backdrop of the banging headboard echoing against the wall behind our bed.

Shaking his head, Dean rose awkwardly and grabbed his keys with a slight flush flooding his cheeks. “I’m… just gonna go ahead and get out of here for awhile then. I’ll be back in a bit with your snacks, probably by the time you’re out of the tub.”

“Ooh! And while you’re there, see if they have any blue slushies! I could totally go for one of those right now.”

Dean shot me a grin as he opened the door. “I’ll be back soon, you might want to turn the music up while you take your bath—it might help cover the percussion section from next door.”

My mouth dropped open as he mentioned our neighbors—both of us had been careful not to overtly take notice of it. At least, that’s what I’d assumed we were doing.

As I lay in the tub awhile later, my body covered with bubbles while soft music played in the background courtesy of my phone, Dean knocked once on the door before opening it and poking his head in.

“Oh, good. You’re decent, or I can pretend you are with those bubbles hiding you anyway—I totally did not think things through when I opened the door just now. But yeah… I wanted to let you know that I was back because you might want to come out while your ice cream is still cold and the taquitos hot… I imagine if it was reversed, they probably wouldn’t be as appetizing, right?”

I laughed and threw my sponge in his direction. “They definitely wouldn’t be as good in reverse, so thank you. Now get the fuck out of here so I can get some clothes on. Unless you want to stand there long enough for a peep show?”

Dean quickly ducked out, while I let the water out and stood to dry myself after I’d rinsed off all the bubbles. By the time I’d put on my lotion and made it back out into the bedroom area, Dean was already on his second beer.

Grabbing my treats, I sat down at the table and dove in. Dean watched in horror as I dragged the spicy beef taquito through the orange sherbet and took a bite, then washed it down with a slug of the blue slushie. I shrugged and swallowed before I spoke.

“Pregnancy cravings, man—I can’t explain it. Just take my word for it. I mean, as gross as it looks? This shit tastes like fucking heaven in my mouth right now.”

I felt dirty each time I brought the deep-fried, rolled tortilla treat up to my mouth for a bite. I was fully aware of how phallic it appeared—I only wished I’d thought about that before I’d requested this particular snack.

Dean was on his fourth beer, and I noticed that his pupils were dilated as he licked his lips and watched my every move.

If I hadn’t known how straight he was, I definitely would have suspected that I was turning him on. But knowing Dean as well as I did, I simply chalked it up to the combined effect of hearing that headboard pounding all week and the beer. It was as simple as that, and I’d be stupid if I suspected it were anything more.

After I finished my late night snack, I decided to go outside for some fresh air to clear my head. I moved out onto the patio, and walked over to rest my hands on the wall as I looked up at the twinkling stars blanketing the inky sky overhead.

Moments later, I sensed Dean before I felt the warmth of his chest come up against my back as he stood behind me and braced his hands on either side of mine on the low wall.

We were close in height, but Dean was just enough taller than me thanks to the inch that separated us, that I felt safe as I leaned back against him. His hands moved and came around my waist in a strangely intimate embrace as they rested over my baby bump. I lolled my head back on his shoulder, then turned to ask him what was up, but before I could speak his lips were pressed against mine.

I froze for a second as Dean kissed me for the second time in our long friendship, this time on purpose—and not because he’d been expected to at our fake-wedding.

After a moment, I kissed him back, not stopping to worry about whether or not Dean was drunk and would regret this tomorrow—instead, I let myself enjoy the romance of this moonlit interlude.

Things came to a screeching halt a few moments later, when Dean jerked his head away and stared at me in shock for a brief second before abruptly turning and going back into our room without so much as a word.

I stayed outside until my arousal faded, then reluctantly went inside to face the music. Dean was dressed only in his pajamas pants now and was kicked back on our bed, leaning against several pillows as he watched TV. I started to question the tenting in his pants, until I realized that he was watching porn—and the boy-girl kind, at that.

Without comment, I turned off the lights and took off my robe before climbing into bed wearing only my boxers. Normally I would have taken time to put on pajama pants, but obviously Dean had no interest in me, which was of course no big surprise—even if my rebellious heart wished otherwise. But since I didn’t need to worry about tempting him, I decided I’d be comfortable for one night.

I snuggled under the covers, surreptitiously eyeballing Dean as he sat there drinking his beer while watching the porn, his body lit up in the dim room by the flickering light of the TV. I bit back a sigh as I thought about how easily I could take care of that problem in his pants, although I knew it wouldn’t be welcomed. But hey, a boy could dream, right?

My libido was already high thanks to the pregnancy hormones, and not at all helped by the pounding of the Dirk’s headboard against our wall every night this week.

But I’d been hanging in there, until that kiss. What the hell was that about anyway? I felt myself getting hard again as I remembered that moonlight kiss, and realized that I was licking my lips as I hungrily stared at the tenting in Dean’s crotch.

When the actors on screen began moaning louder, the sounds of their slapping skin filling the room—I threw caution to the wind. Lifting up on an elbow, I looked over at Dean as I tentatively reached out and wrapped my hand around his fabric-covered cock.

“You know what? Here in the dark, one mouth is as good as another.”

Dean jerked his head to look at me, his words slurring as he spoke. “Wha’ you sayin’, Laurie?”

I gripped his cock firmer, stroking him through his pajamas. “I’m saying that I can take care of this for you, while you close your eyes and pretend I’m someone else—if you want to, that is.”

Dean silently answered by lifting his hips and pulling his pants down to mid-thigh, before leaning back and closing his eyes. I took that as an invitation, and crawled closer.

My heart stuttered in my chest as I shakily wrapped my hand around my best friend’s bare cock for the first time. I’d always known that Dean was hung, based on the way he filled his pants—but nothing could have prepared me for seeing it in person.

It wasn’t that he was super long. In fact, I imagined that if we measured ourselves side to side, I might even beat him by half an inch. No, what Dean had going for him was sheer girth. My hands were average-sized for a guy, and I knew before I reached for him that I wouldn’t be able to close my hand around that monster.

Without thinking, I blurted out the first thought that came into my head as I gripped it. “Holy shit, I’m gonna have to start calling you Coke-can.”

I froze after I spoke, expecting Dean to freak out because another dude was holding his junk, but he only chuckled and shook his head without opening his eyes.

Taking that as a positive sign, I opened as wide as I could and sucked the tip of his cock into my mouth. I bobbed up and down a few times to get a feel for him, before pulling off to swirl my tongue around the head.

When I licked a line up the length of his shaft, then swirled my tongue around the head and over the slit, I glanced up to see a blissed-out smile on Dean’s face as he bit his lip with a look of pure ecstasy on his face. Encouraged, I went back to using my mouth to make love to his cock.

While I sucked, I took turns between fondling his balls, and stroking his shaft. Every time I felt his balls start to tighten in my hand, I’d change up my game to keep him on edge. After the third time that I kept him from coming, Dean whimpered out a single word.

“Please.”

When I heard that, I doubled my efforts and hollowed my cheeks as I bobbed up and down, I fondled his balls in the palm of my hand, while stroking the tip of my longest finger across his taint and tapping his tight pucker with it.

Almost as soon as my fingertip pressed against his rim, Dean came with a loud groan—filling my mouth and throat with a gush of cum.

After I’d swallowed every drop, I licked him clean and moved back to my side of the bed. I waited to see what Dean would do, but he simply got up without saying a word and pulled up his pants before disappearing into the bathroom to take a leak. I flopped over and pretended to be asleep when the bathroom door opened again.

I felt like shit as I laid there and pretended to be asleep. What the hell was wrong with me that I would take advantage of a straight guy? And especially when the straight guy in question was my best friend... I obviously needed to get home and put some space between me and Dean if there was going to be a chance of this marriage lasting.
