Dear Kate (The Letters Book 1) by Elizabeth Lee (11)

Chapter 11

“It's not much,” Deacon said as they walked into the small bedroom in the back of the RV. A queen-sized bed with two anchored night stands and two small sconces were all that were in the room. Kate smoothed her hand over the soft gray comforter.

“It's nice,” she told him, before turning to face him. She wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed up on her tip-toes to kiss him. It started soft like their last kiss, but when Kate slipped her hands under his t-shirt and ran her nails softly over his skin, he deepened it. His hand tangled in her hair as he slipped his tongue between her lips.

Kate moaned against his mouth which only added to the desire building between them. When he broke their kiss and reached for the hem of her shirt, she obliged, lifting her arms to let him undress her.

“I really didn't think I'd ever see you again,” he said. “At least not like this.” He dropped his mouth to her skin as his fingers worked the clasp of her bra free.

“I had to make sure it wasn't a fluke,” she teased, helping him off with his shirt. “If it's as good this time as last we might be on to something.”

“Oh it will be,” he promised with a smirk, reaching for her once more. Her pants and panties were gone as quick as her shirt and bra.

Kate placed her hands on his waist and turned him so his back was facing the bed. After pushing his pants down, she directed him to sit and climbed onto his lap. His cock throbbed against her center and as much as she wanted him inside of her, she paced herself.

His mouth found her collarbone and quickly moved down to her breasts. His lips and tongue teased her sensitive flesh as she rocked against him. When she couldn’t take much more, she reached between them and started to guide him to her entrance.

“You sure?” he said. “I've got a clean bill of health, but I can grab a condom.”

“I'm good, and I'm on the pill,” she replied. “I trust you,” she said, resting her forehead against his as they both looked down between them. There was something so sensual about watching him slide inside of her. Seeing them connect physically as they'd connected more emotionally was intensifying the experience.

“Christ, that feels good,” Deacon said as she pressed herself onto him. Her insides contracting around him tightly. A moan rolled off her lips as she let her head fall back and gave her body a moment to relax around him. His hands gripped her waist as he guided her up and down slowly.

Kate's lips found his as they found a perfect rhythm. When she started moving her hips faster, he stilled her body with his hands.

“Slow down, Katie,” he said, lifting his own hips and scooting their bodies back on the bed.

“Too much for you to handle?” she teased as she pushed him back on the bed until he was lying underneath of her.

“I can handle it,” he said, placing a hand on her cheek. “I just want it to last as long as possible,” he added before kissing her lips. What she didn't admit with words was that she wanted it to last as long as possible too. She knew that her regular life would be calling soon and if all she got was a few moments with him she wanted to savor them. So she kissed him back with as much as she could offer him. She let her mouth and her hands express just how much she appreciated her time with him.

Deacon made sure that she was more than satisfied before they crawled underneath the covers that night. Her muscles ached in delight as she curled up next to him and rested her head on his shoulder.

“Did it live up to the first time?” he asked, draping his arm over her hip and finding a comfortable position to sleep in.

“Even better,” she said, pressing her lips to his skin.

“Just wait until number three,” he said with a chuckle. She let a soft laugh out as her eyes fell shut. The comfort she felt in his arms was surreal. She realized that she'd only just met him, but something deep inside told her that he might actually be worth changing her life for. He was sweet and kind and funny, not to mention she found him extremely sexy. There was a cool, unencumbered charm about him that kept him on her mind.  “I'm really glad that Hope set us up,” he said, his words almost lost on her as she drifted to sleep, but second part couldn't be missed. “When I got her letter I didn't know what to think.”

Letter?

Kate lifted her head to ask him to explain, but just as sleep had threatened her conscious, it had already claimed him. His breathing steadied out as he kept his arms tightly around her. While his mind was dreaming, hers was second guessing the connection that she thought they'd found. What if all of it had been because he felt obligated to honor a dead woman's wishes? Here she'd thought she'd been lucky enough to meet a guy that was genuinely interested in her and come to find out he'd been asked to date her. Forced to if she was guessing. Hope was very persuasive in real life and on paper.

Deacon slept soundly throughout the night, while Kate was restless with the questions she wanted to ask. As soon as the sun peeked up over the skyline, Kate twisted from his arms and climbed out of bed.

“Where are you going?” he asked, restlessly. “It's Saturday. Come back to bed.”

“I have work.” She'd let his confession of Hope sending him a letter marinate in her mind for hours. The betrayal she'd concocted in her mind was on both sides. Him and Hope. She exhaled a deep breath in a huff and continued getting dressed.

“Come on, Katie,” he said. “Let's not do this again. Take some time off. Spend the day with me.”

She looked back at him as she fastened her bra. His eyes heavy as he grinned up at her.

“Why didn't you tell me that Hope sent you a letter?” she asked turning to face him completely.

“I don't know,” he said. “Is it really a big deal?”

“It would have been nice to know from the start,” she said.

“I don't remember you telling me that she sent you one.”

“Of course she sent me one I was her best friend.” Kate pulled her shirt on as Deacon sat up. “What did yours say?”

“Nothing really,” he said. “Just that she thought we might hit it off. Suggested I look you up when I was in town.”

“Hmm...” Kate scoffed. Look her up. That was such a Hope move.

“What did yours say?” he asked.

“Nothing about you,” she said, feeling hurt that Hope didn't give her as much detail as she had him.

“Well, I'm not mad that she pushed you in my direction. Hell, I'd like to thank her.”

Kate shook her head out of frustration. Of course he would be sweet when she was trying to be mad. She wasn't going to bend to his charm that easily.

“Just relax,” he told her. “Does it really matter how we ended up together?”

“Stop telling me to relax,” she snapped. “And yes it does. I thought that we just randomly bumped into each other, not that we were set up. That our connection was based on chance... destiny even. Come to find out it was all orchestrated.”

“You're reading into this too much,” he argued, slipping from beneath the covers to pull on a pair of sweats he took from an overhead bin. “Hope thought we'd hit it off... she was right. We did. We do.” He walked over and placed his hands on her hips as she fastened her pants. “Don't find a reason to bail on me because you're scared,” he said.

“I'm not scared,” she said. Only she was. She was scared of how much she cared about him after two dates. She could see their relationship progressing as quickly as it had started and it was forcing her to look at her life going down a path she hadn't planned for.

“Maybe we were destined to be set up by Hope, did you ever think of it that way?” he asked. His face serious and his words completely knocking her train of thought off the tracks.

“I don't—” she started to speak, but what if he was right. Hell, she didn't know if she actually even believed in destiny. This is exactly why she didn't date. It was a level of insanity that she didn't need in her life. “I just need some time,” she told him. The frustration she saw in his eyes when she kissed his cheek and pulled from his arms hurt her deep down in what felt like her heart. She hadn't let anyone have that effect on her in a long time, and judging by the way she felt she wasn't going to be able to forget it.
