Heart (Ballsy Boys Book 3) by K.M. Neuhold, Nora Phoenix (29)

Mason

I straighten my Pac-Man t-shirt and check my hair in the mirror. Maybe this shirt is a bad idea. I know Lucky has made a point of saying he’s into the whole nerd thing, but this feels like it might be pushing it. I fiddle with the hem of the shirt, trying to decide if I should change into a plain white t-shirt instead.

The door buzzer decides it for me. No time to change, Lucky’s here.

I hit the intercom button and let him know I’m on my way down, then I slip into my blue Converse and grab my keys before heading out. Since running into Lucky at Heart’s the other day, my mind has been turning the situation over and over. There’s something between Heart and Lucky, the kind of chemistry that can’t be ignored. They’d be good together, even if their situation is complicated. Maybe they need a little push?

I’m still thinking the whole thing over when I hit the bottom step. Lucky’s standing in the entrance to the building, a black t-shirt stretched tightly over his muscles, his hair neatly styled, bottom lip a little puffy like he’s been chewing on it. My heart stutters, and my stomach flips. He’s so hot, it’s kind of unfair. But it’s easy to see that a man like this was never meant for me. Heart and Lucky make sense. I don’t fit.

I pull open the outside door, my heart settled low, my mood spiraling down at the obvious solution to the whole problem.

Lucky looks up and smiles when he sees me. His eyes rake over my body, and his eyes darken, making me shiver. I open my mouth, not sure what I’m planning to say. Before I can figure it out, Lucky is on me, hoisting me against his large body and attacking my lips.

My feet are barely touching the ground as Lucky’s hands dig into my ass, holding me close. The front of his shirt is twisted in my fists as his tongue slips into my mouth. His lips move commandingly against mine, making me pant and whimper as I try to keep up. His tongue fucks my mouth, carrying the spearmint taste of gum and the masculine flavor of Lucky.

When he pulls away, I blink my eyes open in a haze to find a bright smile on his kiss-swollen lips.

“Sorry, you just look so hot I couldn’t help myself.”

“Really?” I ask in a stupor.

“Fuck yes. Although this nerdy t-shirt would look much better on my bedroom floor, I think. Then I could have you in my bed in nothing but your thick rimmed glasses, your curly hair all messy from having my fingers run through it.”

I whimper at the image he’s painting.

“Uh…di-dinner?” I suggest, taking a step back and quickly adjusting my raging erection. Lucky chuckles at the move and throws his arm over my shoulders.

It’s difficult to remember the conclusion I’d been in the process of coming to before Lucky kissed me, but as we walk down the street to my favorite Mexican restaurant, it starts to come back to me.

“Can we talk about the whole thing the other day with Heart?” I ask once we’re seated and have complimentary chips and salsa between us.

Lucky stills, and his smile falters. “It’s not what you think,” he rushes to assure me.

“Oh god, I don’t care about that. I’d be a pretty big hypocrite if I was mad at you for fooling around with him.”

Lucky’s eyes go wide. “You mean…Is Heart the guy you mentioned on our first date?”

I nod, stuffing a chip into my mouth and watching the emotions play over Lucky’s face—surprise, interest, lust?

“Heart told me that you’re his PO, so I know you didn’t break our lunch date to have sex with him or anything like that,” I explain. “But I did notice the way you two looked at each other.”

My gut twists as I say the words. It’s epically stupid to push them together and lose not one but both men I really like. But what else am I going to do?

Lucky shakes his head but can’t seem to come up with a denial beyond that. I reach across the table and place my hand on his.

“I really like you, Mason.”

“I like you too,” I admit. “But you and Heart make a lot more sense than you and me or Heart and me.”

“Even if you were right, it’s not an option. I’m his PO; I’d lose my job,” he argues.

“Couldn’t you give his case to someone else?”

Lucky shakes his head again, but I can see the dawning in his eyes. He hadn’t thought of my suggestion before, but he’s intrigued by it. He does want Heart.

“I couldn’t drop you for him. I am attracted to Heart, but I’m insanely into you too. I don’t see how I could possibly—”

“This is so not the kind of thing I ever thought I’d say, but…If I’m hooking up with both you and Heart, there’s no reason you should have to choose.”

Lucky’s eyebrows go up and his pupils blow wide. I watch his Adam’s apple bob in his throat as he considers my suggestion.

“Who’s to say Heart would even be on board for this idea? I’m sure he thinks I’m an asshole.”

“I saw the way he was looking at you. Just think about it.”

The way Lucky shifts in his seat makes me think he’s going to be spending a lot of time thinking about the idea. Then it hits me what I proposed. Oh my god, did I really suggest that we have a threesome? No, right? I told him he could fool around with Heart too if that’s what they both wanted, not that the three of us would…

“Why do you look so freaked out? Are you already having second thoughts about your idea?”

“No, just, uh…I didn’t mean like a threesome or anything.” My face heats. God, I have had sex with Heart once and Lucky not at all yet. Now I’ve somehow talked myself into both of them at once? “I mean…maybe like eventually or something, I just meant you and Heart could…you know, do whatever you two want to do. I wasn’t trying to—”

Lucky leans over the table and cuts off my rambling with a kiss. “I understood. There’s a lot to consider and a number of variables in this scenario. Let’s let things rest, think about them, and see where things go,” he suggests and I nod, letting out a relieved breath.

Oh god, now all I can think about is Lucky and Heart, writhing naked and sweaty together in bed. Surely they wouldn’t want me to be included in that, would they?
