Heart (Ballsy Boys Book 3) by K.M. Neuhold, Nora Phoenix (35)

Mason

I’m a little shaky but as we get off the boat, but I’m smiling so much my face hurts. I had no idea sailing would be so much fun. Heart reaches for my hand to steady me on the dock while Lucky and his brother do whatever they need to do to the boat now that we’re done with it.

“You guys hungry?” Lucky asks as he climbs off the boat with Ranger behind him.

“Starving,” Heart says, and I nod in agreement, my stomach growling at the same moment.

“I’ll leave you with your boys; thanks for taking me out with you on the boat,” Ranger says, clapping Lucky on the back.

“Thanks for helping me show them a good time.” Lucky pulls his brother into a quick hug, and I smile. It must be nice having a sibling, someone who’s always there for you, someone to have grown up with.

“Nice to meet you guys; I’m sure I’ll be seeing you again.” Ranger winks at Heart and me before taking off down the pier.

“Did you guys have fun?” Lucky checks, putting his hand on my lower back and absently rubbing his thumb along a patch of exposed skin. I shiver and lean into his touch, loving the feeling of having both Heart and Lucky so close.

“Yeah, I’ve never been on a boat before.”

“Neither have I,” Heart added. “It was cool; thanks for taking us.”

“Good, I was hoping to make our first date together something to remember.”

I snort a laugh. “I don’t think I could ever forget going on a date with two men at the same time. It’s a notable event for me to have a date with one.”

Heart laughs and kisses my cheek. “You’re just too good at keeping your awesome hidden away. Good thing for Lucky and me that we were able to spot it.”

A pleasant, warm buzz in my chest accompanies Heart’s words, and I feel myself blushing. I can’t say I understand any of this, but I’m going to enjoy it as long as I can.

Lucky leans closer and his lips brush my ear. “He’s right; you’re sweet, sexy, and completely amazing.”

My face burns hotter, and I grasp around my brain for any sort of response. Brad’s hateful words try to find their way in, but Heart and Lucky’s words manage to drown them out. I squeeze Heart’s fingers and rest my head on Lucky’s shoulder.

“How do you guys feel about pizza?” Lucky asks. “There’s a great pizza place just a block over.”

“Works for me,” Heart says, and I nod in agreement.

I realize as we start to walk off the dock that I should probably stop touching one of them. Not that anyone in LA would likely look twice at three men together, but I’m not sure I’m ready to go there. Lucky’s hand falls from my shoulders, and a chill creeps over my skin. I want to reach for him again but I resist.

At the pizza place we get a large pizza to share—half mushrooms and green peppers and half pepperoni. With the three of us seated around the table, Heart shifts uncomfortably in his seat and then gives Lucky a wry smile.

“This is weird as fuck.”

“That there’s three of us or…?” Lucky tries to guess, and Heart tugs his lip ring between his teeth, looking around the restaurant and avoiding eye contact with either of us. I reach for Heart’s hand under the table and give it a squeeze.

“Being around you in a social setting. I feel like I’ve been called to the principal’s office, but instead of getting detention, he took me on a date.” Lucky cringes at the analogy, and Heart immediately starts trying to backpedal. “Not that I don’t want to be on a date with you. I think my brain just needs to catch up with the fact that you’re not my PO anymore, if that makes sense?”

Lucky’s shoulders relax a little. “It makes sense, and it’s a big part of the reason I want us to hold off on sex for the time being. I don’t want you thinking of me as your PO when we get to that point.”

Heart nods and looks relieved. “Why don’t you tell me about what you do for fun,” he suggests.

“I game some,” Lucky admits, and Heart’s face is so full of surprise, I giggle.

“What did you think Lucky and I found to talk about?” I point out.

“That makes sense, I guess. I just can’t picture you sitting on your couch playing video games. I figured you’d be all about lifting weights and rock climbing on your free time.”

“I do both of those things too. I also enjoy trail running and hiking. But that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy a lazy Saturday with my PlayStation from time to time.”

The image pops into my head of the three of us lazing around in our pajamas, playing video games, and cuddling all day. That’s my perfect weekend, hands down, and the thought makes me smile. Maybe one day.

The pizza comes and the topics stay in general getting to know you territory. Heart makes us laugh with a story about a fan proposing to him recently.

“He just got down on one knee right there in the supermarket, I didn’t even know what to do.”

“Oh my god, that’s hilarious,” I say.

“It must be strange having a job that makes strangers think they know you,” Lucky comments, and the mood sobers a little.

“Yeah, it’s kind of weird. Aside from the nutcases, though, the job is pretty awesome. Who wouldn’t want to have sex for a living, right?”

Lucky looks skeptical, opening his mouth and then snapping it closed again without comment. I’ve never thought twice about Heart’s job; it’s just part of him. But does Lucky have an issue with it? That possibility sits heavy in the pit of my stomach. If Lucky has a problem with Heart’s job, this is never going to work. I’m not sure at what point I became so invested in this whole thing, but it feels as vital as breathing, even if I don’t understand yet how it’s going to work.

When the bill comes, Lucky snags it in spite of Heart’s and my protests. “Tell you what, one of you can pay next time.”

“Fine,” Heart grumbles.

I’m happy enough to take turns paying, but Heart seems somewhat irritated by the gesture. “Hey, is everything okay? You never make this big of a deal when I get dinner for us or anything,” I ask quietly.

“Yeah, I just don’t want Lucky to see me as someone who can’t take care of himself.”

“There’s no way he thinks that. This is a date, not that I’ve been on a lot, but I know it’s typical for one person to pay. He said you could pay next time.”

“Yeah,” Heart agrees. “Sorry, I’m being stupid. This is weird, that’s all.”

“Good weird, though. Right?” I check, and Heart smiles and then leans over and presses a quick kiss to my lips.

“Yeah, good weird.”

“Is everything okay?” Lucky asks, looking between Heart and me warily.

“Great, just whispering about how hot our date is,” Heart flirts with a smirk.

“You two are going to be a handful, aren’t you?”

“If you’re lucky.”

I snort a laugh at the unintended pun, and as we all get up from the table, my hand twitches toward Lucky. With a quick glance around, I decide to just go for it. He looks pleasantly surprised when my hand slips into his, and the three of us head back toward the car we left near the marina.

When we reach Lucky’s car, he turns and pins Lucky with a look that’s equal parts nerves and lust.

“So…about that kiss?”

Lucky smiles and gives my hand a squeeze before letting it go.

“I’ll get in the car,” I offer, making a move to skirt around them. Heart’s first kiss with Lucky should be special; they don’t need me standing here making it weird.

“No,” they both say at the same time.

“I want you here. This isn’t just about me and Lucky or you and me. I want you to be part of this.”

I nod and shuffle my feet, not sure if I should stay standing right next to Heart or give them a little space. Heart makes the decision for me by grabbing my arm and pulling me close. Then he turns his attention back to Lucky and bats his eyes suggestively. Lucky chuckles and cups Heart’s face, tilting it up and running his thumb along Heart’s bottom lip.

A little jolt of anticipation prickles along my skin as if I’m the one about to be kissed. I smile and hold my breath, my eyes fixed on their faces as they inch closer, both captivated by the moment.

Heart seems to be holding his breath as well, his eyes fluttering closed as Lucky’s nose bumps against his. Lucky’s lips hover a few inches from Heart’s, his decent on hold as he seems to savor the moment. Heart’s lips part, and he drags in a ragged breath before fisting the front of Lucky’s shirt and dragging him in to close the gap between their mouths. Lucky chuckles but it’s muffled against Heart’s lips, and it quickly turns to a moan.

Their lips move together, and I can’t tell who’s leading or if they’re battling for control. All I know is it’s unbelievably hot to watch their tongues slide together, their lips crashing and parting over and over. Heart’s hand squeezes mine tight like he’s afraid I’ll run away if he lets go. Fat chance I’m going anywhere with a scene like this playing out right in front of me.

When they finally part, they’re both dragging in panting breaths, lips damp and swollen, and cheeks pink.

“Wow,” Heart mutters, and Lucky smiles smugly. “Do I get a kiss from you too, sweetie?” Heart asks after the daze from Lucky’s kiss seems to fade.

“I’m not sure I can follow that.” I force a laugh, nerves fluttering in my stomach. I’ve kissed Heart plenty, but after the way Lucky just kissed him, I’m sure I’ll pale in comparison.

“Don’t be silly.” Heart yanks me forward without giving me further chance to protest.

His lips are just as hot and sweet against mine as they always are, but this time there’s the hint of Lucky’s flavor on his mouth as well, and it makes my cock harder than it’s ever been. Heart coaxes my tongue into his mouth and tangles his fingers in my hair, turning the kiss deep and greedy. When he releases me, Lucky is watching us with heat in his eyes.

“Thanks for a great day.” Heart climbs into the passenger seat, and I make a move to get into the back seat. Lucky stops me, and I get my own goodbye kiss from him, just as possessive and heated as all our kisses have been.

When I finally do climb into Lucky’s car, I try to think of a more perfect day in my life and come up epically short.
