Hollywood Dreams (Hollywood Hopeful Book 1) by Molly O'Hare (22)

Chapter Twenty-Two

Maggie sighed happily as she took a deep breath of fresh air while she walked toward Perk You Up. It’d been a few weeks since she’d last made it to her friend’s coffee shop, not for lack of trying though. Every time Maggie planned a trip to see Lexi, Trevor found a way to convince her otherwise.

She smirked as she walked along the pathway to the shop from Trevor’s house. So much had changed since that night at her apartment. Sure, Trevor and her still fought, and fought a lot, but instead of storming off or trying to kill each other, they now ripped each other’s clothes off. Something she was very fond of.

The initial couple of days after their heart to heart were still awkward for her. Trevor kept surprising her, it was something she hadn’t experienced before. There were times she’d have random objects delivered to her. This included more cat toys, lingerie – which she was not a fan of – even movies he thought she would like. Which, if she were being honest with herself, she did enjoy. It warmed her heart with the effort Trevor was putting into their relationship. Wait, was it a relationship?

Her smile grew broader as she realized, that yes, it was indeed a relationship.

Although they hadn’t gone out in public much, she couldn’t deny they were in a full-blown relationship. Even though she was still getting used to it, there were aspects she was starting to like more and more. Especially the not sleeping alone.

Since the first night, Trevor refused to sleep without Maggie. Which was kind of sweet in a weird stalker way. If she insisted on sleeping at her apartment - which she did because of Pocket, or if they’d gotten into a fight- he’d show up after he was wrapped for the day. Sometimes, with dinner or a movie in hand. Along the way, he’d convinced her to give him a key, and he took full advantage of it. Even though it seemed to be going fast, there was something about it, that just felt right.

She reached for the necklace around her neck. Feeling the pendant in her fingers she closed her eyes. Happy. She was happy, even if there were times he annoyed the crap out of her still. Like the nights he demanded she sleep at his place. Trevor was notorious now with texting her letting her know he had “relocated” Pocket to his “second home” for the evening. The first time it happened, she almost killed him for stealing her cat while she was at the grocery store. After having no choice but to go to Trevor’s house, she felt resigned. Was it wrong that she felt joy when she saw his arms all scratched up from a brawl with Pocket? Nope.

There wasn’t any use in fighting it, and honestly, she didn’t want to. Now, however, when he informed her he’d “relocated” her cat, she’d roll her eyes and plot to spike his food with laxatives.

She would’ve put up more of a fight if Pocket didn’t seem to love it at Trevor’s. Pocket- the devil cat himself- actually demanded to be there more than his actual home. The jerk!

Kidnapping Pocket aside, and Trevor’s weird antics she was content in a bizarre way she’d never felt before. Sure, there’d still been some awkward moments, especially her first audition after the video from the fundraiser went viral. That was something she did not want to go through again. Thankfully, there was another celebrity incident that made headlines, leaving her’s forgotten. It’s funny, you’d think her non-celebrity status would have made the video go away sooner. It still kind of annoyed her. But, none of that mattered because being with Trevor felt right.

Life was good.

Walking the last few steps to Perk You Up, Maggie took a deep breath. She knew beyond a reasonable doubt, the second she opened the door hurricane Lexi would appear.

“You’ve finally come up for air, I see,” Lexi said, the second Maggie was through the door.

“Good to see you too,” Maggie replied.

“I was gonna have a search party sent out for you.” Lexi turned her back on Maggie. Well, this was going well.

“Lexi, I’m sorry, it’s been-“

“I know, I know, you’ve been bangin’ the life out of him,” Lexi remarked before turning back to hand Maggie a drink.

She looked at the cup then back at Lexi. “Is there poison in this?” she asked.

Lexi smiled which caused Maggie to put the cup back down.

“Maggie, don’t be silly. You’d know if I want to poison you. Now, am I annoyed that you’ve abandoned me…” She pointed to herself. “Your best friend? Yeah, but I also know you have a good reason to. I mean come on it’s, Trevor freaking McCain. Not only would I abandon my friends, I’d also sign away my first-born child.”

“Oh geez, really Lexi?” Maggie picked up the drink again and headed to the spot by the window.

“What? You can’t blame a girl here.” Lexi sat across from her with her own drink in her hand.

“Lexi…” Maggie warned.

“Fine.”

Lexi got up and moved to envelop Maggie into her arms. “I’ve missed you. Our texts and random calls aren’t good enough. I finally have a kick ass best friend then she ups and leaves me the second some guy drops to his knees for her… wait, scratch that. Can you tell me your secrets so I can have that, too?”

Maggie laughed. “I love you.”

“Love you, too, kiddo. Now spill.”

* * *

Trevor sat back in his chair as he looked over the last few lines he needed to record. Thankfully, all the filming had wrapped up. Now, all that was needed from him were some voice-overs and some dubbed lines. Apparently, the editing had so far gone really well and they only needed a few more post-production edits. Which worked out well since the red carpet premiere wasn’t that far off.

“How’s Maggie?” Danny came into the room sitting across from Trevor.

“She’s good,” he answered, before pushing his lines away. “I think she’s finally heading over to Perk You Up this morning.”

“Lexi’s gonna enjoy that,” Danny remarked. “She was telling me last night she was going to show up at your house and demand you let her best friend out for fresh air.”

Trevor held his hands in surrender. “It’s not my fault Maggie can’t get enough of me. I tell her all the time to go hang out with you two, she’s the one that would rather spend the time in bed with me.”

Danny cocked his eyebrow.

“No, it’s true. Sometimes I even beg her to go hang out with you guys. I need time to recover. But, then she gives me those “fuck me eyes,” and I’m a goner.”

“Bullshit,” Danny laughed.

Trevor reached for the lines again avoiding Danny’s glare. “Fine,” he mumbled, then he looked towards Danny giving him a smirk. “What can I say I have amazing persuasive techniques.”

Danny rolled his eyes. “Sure, you do.”

Trevor threw his head back in laughter.

“She’s happy, right?” Danny asked going all serious.

“Yes,” he answered. “And I am going to make sure she stays that way.”

“She doesn’t deserve the shit she’s gone through.”

They both turned towards the door as Matt walked in. “I agree,” Danny said supporting his dad.

Trevor nodded. “And I plan on doing everything I can in my power to make sure she never has to go through any of that again. Fuck, man, I still beat myself up for the way I treated her. I don’t understand why she even gave me a chance.”

“I second that,” Danny interjected.

“She gave you a chance because, like me, she sees the good in you. Yeah, you’ve been an asshole, we all know that, but deep down you’re a good man,” Matt said before taking a seat next to Danny.

Danny scoffed. “Sometimes.”

All three of them laughed before the room settled again. “She’s special,” Trevor announced.

“We know,” Matt replied.

“I’m going to take her to the premier as my date.”

Danny and Matt both stared at him. “How does she feel about that?”

Trevor sat back in his chair. “I think sometimes, she believes I won’t really take her, or if I do it will ruin my career. But, when that happens I do everything I can do to prove to her I don’t give a fuck what other people think of me. Slowly, she believes I do want to take her. Honestly, I can’t wait to take her. Then everything will be out in the open, and there is no way in hell, she can deny my feelings for her.”

“She still denies them?” Danny asked.

“She knows I like her and want to be with her. But, she won’t let go of her fears that our relationship will possibly be career suicide.” Trevor fisted his hands. It was the one thing that they still truly fought over. He got it, he completely understood why she felt the way she did. She’d never had any sort of support system in her life other than her grandmother, and the things people used to say to her. Hell, if the roles were reversed he would probably feel the same way.

“I want to be with her… fuck, I really lov-“ He stopped himself. Pushing those thoughts aside, he cleared his throat. “She’s who I want and I will do whatever it takes for her to see that.”

Danny’s eyes were wide as they were glued on Trevor. Matt also cleared his throat. “I’m glad you finally found what you’ve been missing,” he said. “Don’t hurt her.”

“I won’t.”

Both men left so Trevor could look over the lines on his script. The words were running together as his mind tried to process what he’d almost said. Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath. He wasn’t one hundred percent sure he knew what these feelings were, but he did know he wanted to explore them.

He looked down at his watch. He only had one more set of lines to record, then he was done. He’d already told his agent to keep his schedule clear for a few weeks so he wouldn’t have any distractions.

He wanted time with Maggie and Maggie alone. The thought of her being in his bed every night instantly awakened his body. With a groan and a tug on his pants to make room, he looked at his lines again.

Just a few more hours, then he’d be able to go home to her.
