Hollywood Dreams (Hollywood Hopeful Book 1) by Molly O'Hare (25)

Chapter Twenty-Five

Trevor felt Maggie stiffen in his arms causing him to look towards what had upset her. Within seconds his stomach plummeted. There standing a foot from him was the woman he’d been screwing when Maggie had walked in. “Fuck me.”

“Anytime, baby,” she purred.

What the fuck was her name?

Maggie pulled her arm from around his waist and started to slink away from him. “Excuse me,” she whispered. Fuck!

The woman, fuck, he couldn’t even remember her name. All he could remember was that she’d spouted shit about Maggie’s size. As he looked this woman up and down, he actually recoiled. Why in the hell had he ever thought she was attractive? Her hair was bleached so bad the strands looked like they’d been burnt. Her nose job was hideous, and there was nothing to her. He could probably push her over if he blew a little too hard. There was absolutely nothing about this woman that attracted him. Nothing.

“Where have you been, babe? I’ve been wondering when I’d see you again,” she said moving closer to him. As she reached out to touch his chest he grabbed her wrist. “Don’t,” he growled.

She actually laughed at him. “What babe?”

“Don’t touch me. Don’t ever touch me.”

“Trevor,” he heard from behind him. When he looked to see who it was, he saw Maggie. Her eyes were wide and her cheeks were red. She was embarrassed. Seeing her like that was as good as a knife being stuck into him. He never wanted to see her like that. “Trevor, please, you’re making a scene.”

He was making a scene? Hell yeah, he was about to make a scene.

“Oh god, aren’t you the girl that walked in on us, you know the fat one?”

Maggie’s face paled as she stepped back and into the chest of Danny who’d come up to them. Danny instantly put his arm around her. That only sent shock waves of anger through Trevor. When Maggie was upset she should come to him, no one else.

“You are that girl! Isn’t this wonderful, I can’t believe they actually let you in here. Aren’t they afraid you’re gonna eat all the food?” she laughed.

The shrill voice snapped his attention back to the bitch that was spewing garbage. Did this woman have a death wish?

Trevor let go of her wrist stepping away from her. “Watch your fucking mouth,” he growled.

The woman’s eyes widened. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me, you bleach blond, leathered skin whore. If you say one more thing about her, I will make your life a living hell.” Trevor could see the crowd forming around them. He didn’t care though. No one said shit about his girl and lived to tell the tale.

The woman crossed her arms over her chest and straightened herself. Her eyes narrowed as she spoke. “Oh, now isn’t this just wonderful.” The woman looked at Maggie and then to him. “What is this some publicity stunt? Be nice to the fat chick so you can get better press. Believe me, Trevor, no one will ever believe it’s anything more than that.”

“It’s everything more than that,” he said. “Why don’t you get your bony ass out of my face before I make sure you’ll never step foot on another movie set in your life.”

Shock marred her face. “You can’t do that!”

“Try me,” he growled.

“He might not be able to, but I can,” Matt said, from behind them.

The woman glared at both of them before reaching for the drink that was on the table and throwing it in Trevor’s face. “Have fun porking the pig, you egotistical jerk.”

Trevor instantly went to move after her but was held back by Matt. “Don’t do it. I’ll make some calls tomorrow. She’ll never get another decent job in Hollywood again. I’ll make sure of it.”

“That’s not good enough!”

“Think of Maggie.” That’s what got Trevor to stop fighting against Matt. When he scanned the crowd, he saw Maggie in the arms of Lexi and Danny. She was clearly trying to make herself invisible. That only pissed him off more. Seeing her again in Danny’s arms, sent a new wave of possessiveness inside of him. “Get your hands off of her,” he growled before pulling Maggie to him. The heat of the moment had pushed him to the brink. “You don’t touch what’s mine. Ever!” He looked to Maggie, her eyes were wide and her cheeks were red.

She scowled at him. Putting her hands on his chest she pushed him back. “Screw you! I’m no one’s property.” She turned to walk back to Lexi and Danny. “Can you guys take me home?”

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.” Trevor reached for her arm, pulling Maggie back to him again. “Why do you always have to fight me? Jesus Maggie, how many times do I have to tell you? You’re mine.”

“You’re a pig.”

Trevor rolled his eyes. It was her favorite insult to sling at him. “I get it, you’re embarrassed and pissed right now. If I’d known she was even on the guest list I would have asked Matt to take her off. But fuck, Maggie, when you get upset you need to come to me, not run into the arms of another man.”

“He’s my best friend! And you were being a hot head!”

“I was defending you. Why are you so ungrateful?”

Maggie stared directly at him. Her hands were on her hips and her eyebrow raised. “Excuse me, did you just say, I’m ungrateful?”

That’s it. He’d had it. He mirrored her stance. “Yes, you’re so fucking ungrateful. I fucking paid for your piece of shit car when it broke. I then bought you a new car. I pay for your apartment that you’re not even living in because I moved all of your shit into my house. I let your cat beat the shit out of me every chance he wants to because it’s a game to him. I arranged for you to have a stylist and-“

“I never wanted any of that stuff. You did it all on your own. I am, and was, perfectly happy with the way everything in my life was going. You came in and decided you needed to be in charge.” She moved a step closer to him. “You did all those things behind my back. Yeah, I’m glad you did do those things, but you make it seem like I need to bow down to you for sticking up for me. Newsflash honey, I can stick up for myself!”

“Do you think I don’t know that!” he yelled. “Maggie, I do all those things because I am fucking in love with you!”

The room fell silent.

Fuck it, he didn’t give a shit. It was about time he told her. Hell, he’d fucking yell it from the rooftops if that’s what it took.

“What?” she whispered in shock.

“You heard me, Maggie. I am unbelievably in love with you. You are the biggest pain in my ass, but you are my pain in the ass. And,” he took a deep breath. Might as well go for broke. He kneeled down. “Fuck, I can’t believe I am going to do this here. Maggie, you set my world on fire. You are constantly keeping me on my toes. I know this is all a lot to take in, but I can’t see my life without you. You’re it for me. And, until the day I die, I will still buy you a new car when I want to keep you safe or pay for a stupid bill you insist of having, such as a wasted apartment. I want to pay for all of Pocket’s vet bills and hopefully get him a brother or sister…” he narrowed his eyes at her. “…but it’ll be a dog. Mags, I will never stop defending you. You are my dream girl and I will fight for your honor.”

Maggie had her hands over her mouth as she took a step closer. “Wh-why are you on your knee?”

He angled his head to the side and cocked his eyebrow. “Really. You don’t know why I am on my knee right now?” Shaking his head, he reached for her hand. “Maggie, I am asking you to marry me. Right here, right now. This is it for me. You’re it.”

“Holy shit,” Maggie whispered.

“If you say yes, keep in mind I will never stop trying to surprise you. I will never stop defending you, and I will never stop loving you.”

“Don’t leave the man, hanging. Jump his bones!” Trevor heard Lexi yell from behind them.

“Lexi!” Maggie shot her head to her friend. “Do not ruin the moment I tell the man I love I am going to marry him!”

Trevor jumped to his feet scooping Maggie into his arms. “So, that’s a yes?” he asked spinning her around.

“Yes, you, big oaf now put me down!”

“Hell no,” he said as he continued to spin her. “I’m never letting you go.”

“What if I told you I’m going to be sick?” That got him to stop spinning her. He placed her on the ground cupping her cheeks in his hands. “I love you, Maggie Connolly. You’re my Hollywood dream come to life.”

“I love you, too, Trevor. Even though I want to kill you half the time. I somehow fell so madly in love with you.” She pulled away punching him in the arm. “Don’t ruin it!”

Trevor laughed before pulling her into his arms once again.

“Three cheers!” Danny hollered.

The crowd erupted in celebration.

“Let’s go home,” Trevor whispered in her ear. Maggie nodded and they started to make their way out of the party. Camera lights were flashing all around them. They both stopped when Lexi stood in front of them, blocking their path. After pulling Maggie into a hug and releasing her, she looked her up and down. “You get twenty-four hours before I come over and we start planning the wedding.”

Maggie’s eyes widened as she looked at Trevor. “Oh fuck!”
