Chapter Twenty- Eight
Gentry
It had been a hot minute since I had been in the arena. Tonight, I remembered everything I loved about competing. Tomorrow I would surely remember everything I hated about it as well.
I accepted my all-around cowboy buckle and my meager prize money. Riding out of the arena I dismounted and handed the reins to Ethan, patting Thunder on the neck one last time. It was his night as much as it was mine.
I looked around for her but I didn’t see Krys anywhere. She seemed a bit standoffish earlier and I worried she wasn’t having a good time.
I turned to Ethan, “Where did she go?”
Ethan looked at me with half a panicked look and shrugged.
Liar.
Bethany came over to me jumping up and down, her full tits doing their work. Last time I saw her I would have gladly taken her as my trophy. In fact I had. But not anymore. My trophy was still hiding, but I would find her.
Bethany wrapped her arms around be but I peeled them off. I had drew the short straw today. Instead of leaving our horses bunked down at the arena stables we were taking them home, or rather, I would get them back to the barn. I was hoping Krys would go with me. Make quick work of it and take her back to Carla’s bar and show her off.
Brandon showed up behind Ethan as the crowd thinned. “Krys with you?”
“About that,” his voice was weary. “She took off Jake a little bit ago.”
“Well, that means a firing for a horse handler,” Bethany purred excitedly. I ignored her. I was seeing red.
“What the fuck is she doing with Jake?”
Brandon shrugged.
“She may have gotten bored. Can’t expect Krys to mold perfectly into your life,” Ethan offered but I doubted that.
Ed slammed me on the back. Didn’t have to look or even hear his voice to know it was him. That was my Uncle Ed. “Congratulations my boy. Where’s Krys? Carla just left for the bar and said she went looking for you the second your bronc ride was over.”
“Oh she found me, or rather I found her by Thunder, then she left with Jake apparently,” I growled. After everything we had been through, how dare she? “I swear to God if he touches her!”
“They are just friends and you kind of had it coming,” Brandon advised me, side stepping out of the way of the crowds flow.
“I deserved this! I had this coming!” Thunder in all his steadiness pranced at my side.
“I know zero about women, but I doubt that hanging all over this thing,” he motioned to Bethany, “and simply introducing her as the new horse handler, went over so hotly.”
Bethany slapped Brandon across the face at being called this thing, glared at me and walked off.
“I never meant anything by it,” I attempted to defend myself.
“You’re an idiot,” Ethan agreed with Brandon.
“I don’t date. Was I supposed to flaunt my relationship?”
“Instead of making yourself look single yes,” Brandon told me.
“Not to mention all those years of having to hide the relationship. I’m sure she’s more than ready to tell the world,” Ethan added.
“We haven’t had that conversation yet.”
“We,” Ethan motioned to himself, Brandon and Uncle Ed, “all live with you and all work with you. The both of you. We have to knock on doors and yell before walking around corners of the shed to make sure we don’t accidently get a free porn show. And everyone knows it’s not just sex. We wouldn’t be having this conversation if it was. If it was purely physically you wouldn’t give a damn where she was.”
I hated them because they were right. Hated this conversation because I sounded like a bitch and really just hated myself. Krys, though I could guarantee it wasn’t showing, was sitting at Carla’s bar right now and hurting like hell.
“Load up the horses and help breakdown the arena and I will take this trip home so you can find her,” Ed offered. I’d say it was because I was his beloved nephew. But that wasn’t true, he really loved Krys and probably preferred to keep her over even me.
