Roommate's Virgin by Claire Adams (40)

Epilogue

Zoey

Four Years Later

It was early, but I loved the quiet calm of sunrise just before the hustle and bustle of the day caught up with you. I liked walking around the house too; taking in every room like it was a work of art. In some ways, that was exactly what it was.

It had taken Devlin and me four years to finally purchase the house of our dreams. We had celebrated our three-year wedding anniversary two months ago, and this house was the next step in our plan. It had been sad to leave our apartment, only because it had been the place where we had celebrated many of our milestones together… both professionally and as a couple. But Devlin and I both knew that it was time to move on.

We had outgrown that space and we were ready to move into our burgeoning future. True to his promise, Devlin had made sure that I had a music room complete with a grand piano and shelves for all my records. His art studio was in the very next room… a rough space that was meant to be anything he wanted.

The last four years had been a whirlwind. Not only had Devlin and I gotten married, but he had put on several exhibitions that had been extremely successful. He was now a local celebrity, and I couldn’t have been prouder. With his meteoric rise, Devlin and I had decided to start an art studio of our own. We would sell his work and my music, and we could work together. But since I loved teaching so much, I had decided to continue teaching part-time so that I could have the best of both worlds.

We had a lot on our plates to juggle, but that was exactly how we liked it. There was a chaos in our lives that was enriching and fulfilling and extremely exciting. But lately, I had been feeling tired and I was beginning to suspect that I needed a short sabbatical from my fast paced yet stressful life.

I made some coffee and then headed upstairs to wake Devlin. We had got home late last night after a gallery opening and he had collapsed onto be the moment we had arrived home. He was lying in the sheets, breathing heavily with his back to me and his face pressed to the side. I climbed up behind him and traced lines around his back with my finger. I kissed his neck and his ear softly until he stirred. He turned over, and I slipped my hand under the sheets.

I felt him groan as I took his cock into my hand and started massaging it gently, making sure to build the rhythm smoothly. He was hard before his eyes were open, but I didn’t mind.

I climbed on top of him and slipped his cock inside me. His eyes fluttered open as I rode him gently, making sure not to jerk him out of sleep with a rough fuck. His hands grabbed my ass, and I placed my hands on his chest and increased the speed of my thrusts.

He had very little control considering he had just woken up and I had taken him off guard. He came violently with his eyes rolling back in his head. I smiled down at him, kissed his lips gently and rolled off.

“Good morning,” I said.

“Good morning indeed,” Devlin sighed. “That was quite the wakeup call.”

“Your welcome.”

Devlin smiled and wrapped his arm around me. “Come here.”

“We don’t have time,” I said. “We have to get dressed and get over to our art studio… remember?”

“Our art studio,” Devlin repeated, with a smile. “It has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?”

“I’ve always thought so,” I nodded. “Now come on… we can’t be late. It’s our first official day… we’re opening our doors to the public.”

“Ok, ok,” Devlin said, as he got up and headed to the bathroom.

Once we were both dressed, we got into our car and drove to the art studio which was only a convenient ten-minute drive. We parked and as we walked up to the gallery I realized that I could recognize the people standing just outside it.

“Oh my God,” I laughed, as I spotted mom, Seth, Leah, and Zack.

“Leah,” I gasped, running up to her and embracing her. “I can’t believe you came.”

“I had to be one of the first people to walk into your new art studio,” she said.

“You are amazing,” I said, before turning to my mother and brother. “You guys! You are truly the best.”

“We just wanted to show you two how proud we are of your journey together,” mom said, linking her arm with Devlin’s. “I couldn’t be happier for you both.”

“Neither can we.”

I turned to see Devlin’s parents walking up towards our small gathering. I glanced immediately at Devlin who was looking surprised and incredibly touched that they had shown up. The last four years had gone a long way in re-establishing a familial bond between Devlin and his mother and father… but somehow Devlin was still surprised when they showed up to things.

I embraced my in-laws and thanked them for coming before Devlin got out the key and opened the doors to our studio. We paraded in with our family and friends on our heels, and everyone let out a little cheer as we looked around the cute little studio that Devlin and I had spent the better part of a year trying to get off the ground. I was very happy, but I was also feeling very light-headed, and Devlin seemed to notice.

“Hey, hon,” he said, putting an arm around my shoulders. “Are you ok?”

“I’m fine,” I nodded, but even as I spoke I felt my stomach heave uncomfortably, and I knew I was going to be sick.

“Are you sure?” Devlin asked, looking a little worried. “You just went pale.”

I shook my head. “Um… will you excuse me for a second.”

I ran towards the restroom and locked myself in there just in time to throw up noisily in the toilet. I had just flushed and washed out my mouth when I heard an insistent knock on the door.

“Zo?” Devlin called. “Are you alright… are you sick?”

I opened the door. “Come in,” I said, as I pulled him inside the bathroom with me.

“What’s going on?” he asked.

I took a deep breath and opened my bag. “I have a confession to make,” I said. “For the last week or so… I’ve been feeling a bit funny.”

“Funny?” Devlin asked, with a frown. “Like sick?”

“Um, not exactly,” I said, pulling out the thing I had been carrying around in my bag for the past few days. I held it up to Devlin’s face, and I watched his eyes go wide.

“You… you’re pregnant?”

“I don’t know for sure,” I admitted. “I’ve just suspected that that was the case… I’ve been waiting to take the test but we’ve been so busy this past week and I wanted to be able to do it with you.”

“So you haven’t actually taken a pregnancy test yet?”

“No.”

Devlin brushed his hand through his hair. “We weren’t planning to start a family until we were in our thirties and… more established.”

“I know,” I nodded. “But you know what they say… the best-laid plans… and anyway we don’t know for sure if I really am pregnant.”

Devlin bit his lip.

“What?” I asked.

“I just… I guess I was thinking… how awesome it would be if you were pregnant.”

“Yeah?” I asked, feeling a rush of love and affection for my husband.

“Yeah,” Devlin nodded. “Let’s take the test.”

So I peed on the stick and then Devlin and I had to wait a few minutes till the results registered. The whole time we were a bundle of nerves knowing that if we saw two little blue lines instead of one, our lives would change completely… again.

“I think we should be able to check now,” I said.

Devlin nodded and then he took my hand. “Ready?”

“Ready,” I nodded.

We glanced towards the test, and I felt my breath catch in my throat. It was indisputable… there were two very strong, very clear blue lines staring us both in the face. My hunch had been right all week.

“I’m pregnant,” I whispered.

“Oh my God,” Devlin gasped, grabbing me and twirling me lightly around the small bathroom. “We’re going to have a baby.”

“You look so happy,” I said, cupping the side of his face.

“Of course I’m happy… we can do this Zoey. We’re the perfect team…”

“You’re not scared?”

“Nope,” Devlin said confidently. “I don’t have any reason to be with a partner like you.”

“We just started this art studio,” I said.

“Which is why the timing is perfect,” Devlin said. “We can bring the baby to work with us… we can make our own rules my love… this is our business, our baby, and our adventure.”

Laughing, I jumped into his arms, ready to embark on our new adventure.
