Aleksy and Trent held Liam in their strong embrace for a few silent minutes.  Liam knew testifying against Popov would be difficult, but he didn’t realize how much it would wear him down, how every night he’d fall into bed and feel like he’d gone twelve rounds with the heavyweight champ.

“I’m so proud of you,” Trent whispered into his ear.

“Me too,” Aleksy said in his other ear.

Liam’s body shivered.  He hadn’t realized how much he needed to hear that.  But he wasn’t naive enough to think that those words solved all their problems.

“Lily?” he said.

“Sleeping.  We’ve got the monitor,” Aleksy said, indicating the table behind him.

Liam glanced over and then blushed when he saw the other items sitting next to the monitor.

“Nothing has to happen, baby.  We just wanted to be prepared,” Trent said.

“Have you two…….?”

Aleksy shook his head, “No.  We waited. For you.  We wanted the first time to be with all three of us.  That doesn’t mean that there won’t be times when it is just two of us.  Of course, that will happen.”

“And you’re okay with that?” Liam said as he looked between the two of them.

“I am,” Aleksy said.

“I am too.  What about you, babe?  Would it make you jealous if you knew that Trent and I slept together when you were away or busy?”

Liam shook his head as he frowned, “No, but….”

“But you’re confused as to why that is,” Trent said.

“Yeah.  That.”

Aleksy took a deep breath, “Sometimes you don’t have to understand things to know that they just work, Liam.  We work.  The three of us fit.  Do we really have to figure out why?  Or can we just enjoy that it does?”

Liam sighed and ran his fingers through his hair as he walked over and sat down on the couch, “I get that, I really do.  But it’s not just me and you have to understand that.  If my heart gets broken, if I walk away because this didn’t work, I’ll be sad but eventually okay.  Lily?  She could get destroyed.   She’s going to have to deal with so much crap if we get together - kids picking on her at school and how people react when we’re out in public.  I have no doubt that she’ll be able to handle it.  But if we don’t work out?  She’s already lost one father.  I don’t know if she could come back from losing two more.”

Trent knelt down in front of him and took Liam’s hands in his own, “I get that babe.  But you have to know that nothing in this world will keep us from being a part of that little girl’s life.  She’s ours now, all of ours.  That little girl is so firmly embedded in mine and Aleksy’s hearts that nothing could remove her, not even death.  Even if we don’t work out, Aleksy and I will be a part of that little girl’s life always.  We’ll be there for school plays, we’ll be there for holidays, we’ll be there for birthdays, we’ll be there for her first date, we’ll be there when she has her first broken heart.  We’re not going anywhere, Liam.  She’s ours now, all of ours.”

“I get that.  But there are other factors too.  Where are we going to live?  My place is, well, it was Luke’s and mine.  It’s the only home Lily has ever known.  But it’s nowhere near where you guys live and it’s way too small for all of us.  If I’m going to uproot my daughter, I need to know that it’s worth it.  I, we need to take this slow.  Date for a while.  See how things go.  I haven’t dated, I haven’t been with anyone since Luke died.  You guys know that I kind of went off the rails when that happened.  And then Popov came along, and he threatened my daughter.  I feel like I haven’t been able to breathe in years.”

Aleksy sat down next to Liam and pressed a kiss to the side of his head, “Lily is so damn lucky to have you as her father, Liam.  And Trent and I will be just as lucky to have you in our lives, however that looks.  Know this, babe: you are in charge here.  You decide how fast or slow we go.  You decide what happens next.  Trent and I will be waiting for whatever you decide to do.”

Liam let out a big sigh. “Thank you,” he whispered.

“It’s been a long road for you.  I think it’s time to go inside and get some sleep,” he said but as he started to stand, Liam grabbed onto his hand.

Aleksy watched Liam for a few seconds as the man just stared at their joined hands.

“Babe?” he finally said.

“Show me,” Liam whispered.

Liam’s big blue eyes shimmered with tears as they lifted, “Show me….us.  I need to know what we’ll feel like, Aleksy.  Please.”

Aleksy’s gaze flickered to Trent and he knew that the two of them were thinking the same thing; if they did this, there would be no turning back.  Were they all ready for that?

“Li….” Trent started to say.
