His Town by Ellie Danes (71)

Chapter Five

Becca

I sipped my martini as fast as I could. I was hoping that a buzz would help me find Chris’s stories more interesting. Courtney was making her rounds as her man performed his host duties. I was feeling really left out as Melissa and Chris talked about work. Even my date seemed to be having more fun.

I zoned out as I look around the room, taking in the sights and barely hearing Chris’s voice as he stared at me. “Becca, I’ll be right back. I’ve got to take a leak.”

Before I could respond I was startled by the bump from behind. The deep softness of his voice filled my ears and his cologne filled my nose. I closed my eyes drinking it in. Immediately I felt the warmth of a hand on the small of my back. “Becca?” He whispered my name into my ear.

I attempted to turn as Chris leaned in and kissed me on the cheek. “I’ll be back in a few.” I watched as he weaved through the crowd and disappeared. I swallowed hard and spun to see him. My heart raced and my eyes locked on his. “C- Chance?” My voice stammered. “What are you doing here?”

I watched as his eyes followed Chris across the room. There was a flash of annoyance in his eyes. Any words I might have said were lost somewhere within me. I noticed the woman sitting next to Chance. She was gorgeous. Her hand dragged across his shoulder as she whispered in is ear. “Here’s your drink.”

She looked past him at me and then gave me a sly smile, as if bragging that she was with him.

“Excuse me. I…I need some air.” I stood from my seat and stared at Melissa. Her eyes focused on Chance, then back at me. I began to walk. I just wanted out of the situation.

I weaved in the same direction where Chris had disappeared earlier. I only made it halfway before Chance caught up with me, his strong hand gently touched my arm.“Becca wait, can we talk?”

I looked up at his beautiful eyes and felt my knees weaken. “No, Chance I don’t want to talk.” I shook my head. “You got what you wanted already. I met Sara, she told me everything.”

“Becca please listen to me.” His eyes were pleading, desperate even. He held my arm with a trembling hand. “Everything she told you was a lie!”

“How am I supposed to believe that?” My eyes stung with the threat of tears. Just like before, I felt like I wanted to believe him.

“Sara and I were over before I even met you. She came to Vegas to try and get me back.” He grabbed my other arm and lowered his head so we were eye to eye. His brows furrowed together, his eyes darting back and forth, searching my face for some sign that I believed him.

“Well even if you are done with Sara.” I barked back at him, “You seemed to have moved on.”

“What?” he raised his brow than looked over at the woman, “You mean Kristen? No, no I’m not dating her. She’s an old friend, actually she’s engaged to my childhood friend.”

“I don’t know if I can believe anything you say Chance.” I looked down at the floor, biting my lower lip.

“I know it looks bad, but really she’s just a friend. In fact she’s here tonight because she’s a food critic.” His voice was rushed; he kept trying to meet my eyes. “I bought this place, turned it into a restaurant and bar. I asked her to come with me so that she could possibly review it.”

“Seriously!” My voice sounded exasperated. I just couldn’t believe it. “Even if she is a friend, that doesn’t prove that you and Sara are over.”

“We are, I swear.” He frowned sadly, and once again I felt like he was telling the truth. But even if he was, I didn’t know if it mattered at that point. “I tried to call you, many times.”

“I know, I changed my number.” I met his eyes, and felt my heart give way. His face looked so strained. His blue eyes had lost all of their sparkle. I couldn’t take it anymore and looked away. “Anyway, it doesn’t matter; I’m seeing someone else now.”

“That guy that kissed you?” his voice fell flat. “You . . . really like him?”

“We’ve only been dating a few weeks.” I said sheepishly. “But yes, I really like him.”

“Becca,” He pulled me in closer, firmly, leaving me with no other option than to meet his gaze. “I really like you. Please give me another chance. Me and you; we’re good together.”

“No Chance.” I slipped out of his grip, stepped back. “We’re not, there’s just way too much drama. It’s not like that with Chris. He’s smart and nice. Things with him are simple. And that’s what I want.”

“Simple . . .” Chance sighed as he looked off into the distance. “What about passion? Excitement? I get not wanting drama…I don’t want that either. But is simple really what you’re looking for?”

“I . . .” I paused, he met my gaze, a brief shimmer of hope reentered his blue eyes. “We wouldn’t work, you live in Vegas, and I live here. Even if you own a restaurant here you wouldn’t be in the city all the time.”

“I live in Manhattan Becca.” He smirked softly, as he stepped toward me. “I only travel to Vegas for work every now and then,”

“Oh, you didn’t mention that.” Out of the corner of my eye I saw Chris swiftly walking toward us.

“Becca,” Chris looked stern, his face was stiff, his jaw clenched, “Don’t you think you should come back and join us at the bar?”

Chris didn’t look at Chance, he reached out and grabbed my hand. Chance looked at me, his eyes pleaded for me to stay. I didn’t know what to do. My mind was completely muddled. Logic was telling me that Chris was right. That I should just leave, forget Chance, and try to salvage the night. But still, my heart went out to Chance.

“I’ve got to go.” I said softly and then nodded at Chris. As we walked back towards the bar I looked over my shoulder at Chance, his eyes still pleading for me to stay.

* * * *

My hands held the back of his head while his full lips met mine. Our tongues danced as I felt the electricity pulse through my body. I could already feel the wetness in my panties as his hands slid up my leg and underneath my dress.

There wasn’t enough room in the car and I was nervous about the thin, tinted privacy glass between the driver and us. A part of me just didn’t care. All I wanted was him and his hands all over me. I wanted to his clothes off. I moved my hand down his strong back and reached between his legs. I could feel his hardness and I gently squeezed it, and then stroked it on the outside of his suit pants. “Chance, I’ve wanted this ever since we were last together…please.” I unzipped his zipper and slid my hand inside so I could feel him.

Chance worked his hand up my dress and played with the edge of my panties, his fingers toyed with the elastic as he slipped a finger underneath and brushed a spot that drove me crazy. I felt the blood pulsing through my veins as he kissed me harder; teasing me with his fingers as he slowly slid one inside.

His lips pressed against my neck and his hot breath sent shivers down my spine as I tugged at his bulge. I wanted to pull it out, to see it up close like I had before. I glanced out of the window and recognized the street. It was mine. The car pulled up and I smiled at Chance. “Let’s take this inside.” I smiled and without saying a word, Chance opened the door and quickly pulled me outside, adjusting himself and fixing his zipper.

I fumbled for my keys, finally finding them in the bottom of my purse and stuck them in the door, quickly unlocking the deadbolt and doorknob and pushing the door open. The heat and sexual tension between us was building hotter and more intensely. Chance slammed the door behind us and he grabbed me, spinning me so my back was against the door and he continued kissing me harder.

“Chance…” I whispered against his ear, my hand ran through his thick soft hair. I couldn’t take it anymore. I wanted him more than I ever wanted anyone before. I moved my hand down to his pants and unbuttoned them, allowing them to fall to the floor. Chance reached under my dress and tugged off my panties. He pushed my dress up and I felt his hardness enter me as I took in a shuddering breath and then gasped. I could feel every muscle on his body tighten. His warmth filled me with every strong thrust.

“Becca,” He moaned.

“Chance,” I whispered, as I broke our kiss, “I’m sorry I said I didn’t want to be with you.”

He kissed me harder as he picked me up, my legs wrapped around his waist. He deftly stepped out of his fallen pants and carried me to my bedroom. I wanted to feel his skin, to kiss him all over. We collapsed onto the bed as I tore away his shirt. Chance unzipped my dress and slid it off as we rolled on this bed. His hardness entered me once again. I got on top of him, and moved slowly. His hands gripped my hips firmly, guiding my body. I gasped with every thrust. I could feel him twitch within me. My juices were overflowing, my whole body twitching. I could feel the heat within me grow.

“Ahhh Chance!” I gasped, I felt like my body was drifting away. The sound of sirens from the street bellowed blared through my room. My eyes opened wide as jumped up. I looked around my room and situated myself. The clock on my nightstand read four forty-five. I was alone and dreaming of Chance again. As quickly as I removed him from my life, he was back in it.
