Ache For Me: A Hockey Romance (The Banks Sisters Book 1) by Aja Cole (19)

Kaija

“Where are you?” Key calls just as I’m getting into my car, and I scowl. So damn impatient.

But really, nothing can kill my post-Harlan glow. The man is pure magic.

Four minutes. Four minutes and 25 seconds.

Like, come on.

“I’m on my way, damn. It’s not like you’re waiting outside or something, you have a key.”

“You need to be more punctual.” She huffs.

“Girl, if you don’t calm yourself. I will be at my house soon.” I click off, switching the line over and calling Mickey.

I would’ve been more on time had I not been delightfully waylaid…Whew baby.

Just remembering the predatory look on his face at first

My core spasms and I stop myself. Sisters, it’s sister time. Mindset. Fix it.

“I hope you’re bringing plenty of alcohol.” I clear my throat.

“And weed, don’t worry.”

“Oh my god, Key is not going to touch any weed.” I laugh, flipping my blinker on at the red light.

“She’ll eat it though. My pot brownies are legendary.” Mickey’s voice is smug and I shake my head. It’s going to be an interesting night, if nothing else.

“Okay, if you get there before I do, please start drinking. Aka, please start getting Keyra drunk.”

“Aye aye, cap’n.”

I’m almost to my house when my phone lights up with Bahi’s name, but it happens so quickly that I figure it must’ve been an accidental dial.

She’ll call back or text if it’s something important. She’s not on schedule for the bar tonight.

I’m not quite ready to deal with her directly right now. Key and I have been quietly checking things out, talking to different people and checking surveillance.

This weekend is when we’re going to have them take her in for questioning. We just needed to see how many people are in the crosshairs and who else she seems to be involved with.

Now it’s time to turn it over to the people who can really do something about it.

I pull into my driveway, seeing Mickey and Keyra’s cars and hope they haven’t murdered each other.

Before I can even open the door, it swings open and Mickey thrusts a solo cup into my hand.

“Drink up, you’re gonna need it.”

I walk into my living room and sit down my phone and purse, taking in Keyra pacing.

Keyra?”

She swings to me, propping her hands on her hips and shaking her head. She opens her mouth but closes it again, and turns back to pacing, muttering under her breath. She hasn’t even taken off her heels.

Mickey and I sit on the couch, watching her and taking large sips of something I can’t even name. I just know that I can trust Mickey to put way too much alcohol in everything, and hopefully, I’ll be able to breathe a little easier and forget everything that’s happening soon.

“A sex tape?!” Keyra practically shrieks and I swing my head to Mickey, who holds her hands up.

“A warning would’ve been nice.” I hiss.

“Honestly, she hadn’t said a word until you got here. I just thought she was being her usual high-strung self so I didn’t really question it too much.”

“To be fair, I told you about it two weeks ago.”

She’s so mad that she’s just shaking her head silently. I haven’t seen her like this since that time I took the heads off her collection barbie dolls because I was curious about what was inside them.

“I thought you were joking.” She throws her hands up. “But something told me to check into it, and lo and behold, I find out someone’s shopping it around to be sold.”

“Someone hacked his ex’s computer.”

“Is his ex’s name Delia?”

“Yeah.” I take a bigger sip from my cup, finishing it, and Mickey hurries to refill it. She also shoves a cup into Keyra’s hand and she’s on autopilot anger so much that she just starts drinking from it.

Bless.

“Delia Moore is shopping that video around. Yeah, she’s doing it through about five different people, but that woman was not hacked. Its a money grab, pure and simple.”

“I think you missed your calling as a private investigator.” Mickey muses, biting from a brownie.

“So what can be done about it?”

“I’m not a legal expert, but there’s been enough cases like this that even though New York doesn’t have an official law on revenge porn or similar stuff, there should be a good enough statute for them to be able to forbid it being distributed if they get on it like, right now.” She takes a big drink from her cup, peering at it. “This is really good.”

“Want a brownie? I baked them today.” Mickey grins, offering Keyra the plate, and she happily takes one.

I fight my laughter and grab my phone. I need to tell Harlan what Keyra said before I’m too drunk to be coherent.

I dial him and he picks up on the first ring. Makes me all fuzzy inside.

“Having fun?” He rumbles and a little shiver works its way through me. Voice like honey, this one.

“About to. But I wanted to pass along some interesting things that Keyra just told me….” I explain what she said, and talk him down a little when he starts to get pissed off. When we get off the phone, it’s so he can call his lawyer and agent immediately and put them on the same trail Keyra got.

With that complete, I leave my phone on the counter and grab a brownie for myself, plopping on the couch next to Mickey. Keyra’s kicked her shoes off and has curled up in an armchair, happily raving about how good and chocolatey Mickey’s brownies are.

She’s going to be beyond pissed off tomorrow. But we’ll deal with tomorrow when tomorrow comes.

For now, I’m just going to enjoy my sisters being able to be in the same room together, even if its mostly because of controlled substances
