Hudson by Joanne Sexton (10)

10

Officer Roberts

Nursing his third whiskey, Lucas was beginning to feel quite numb when Chuck and a few other officers entered the bar.

“Hey, Hudson,” Chuck said slapping him on the back. “Glad you could make it.”

Lucas welcomed the rest of the party while Chuck ordered another round. Unaccustomed to drinking, Lucas’s world began to swirl. At least the numbness dulled the ache in his chest.

“Are you alright?” Chuck asked him.

“Yeah, no problem, Chuck, all part of the job.” He hoped he wasn’t slurring.

Being one of the boys lifted Lucas’s mood and soon he forgot his troubles. As the other officers regaled him with their first murder stories, Lucas, for the first time in three years, actually felt like he belonged, he was amongst colleagues, friends.

It was only when he went to visit the john that he realised exactly how much he’d consumed. As he goose stepped to relieve himself he began to feel green. Pride stopped him showing the affects to the boys when he joined them again.

After consuming the next round, which didn’t seem to be affecting any of their group, he began to sway. His saviour came in an unexpected form.

“Lucas?” a sweet melodic voice asked him through the fog. “Lucas Hudson?”

He turned to the voice to find a vaguely familiar pretty face. Her hair was long and dark, and her eyes the colour of toffee. Her full scarlet lips cried out to be kissed and her body, slim but athletic sent lust to his groin. In her tight jeans and plain t-shirt she looked casual but sexy.

“You’re pretty,” Lucas slurred.

This brought about a guffaw from his group and a smile from her.

“Officer Roberts, what brings you here tonight?” Chuck asked.

“Not you, Chuckie.”

Lucas stared at her in a dizzy haze. “Whassyername?”

“Olivia.”

The memory of her smacked Lucas in the face. “I know you.”

“So you joined the force?”

“Yeah.”

“You two know each other?” Chuck asked.

“In a way. Lucas, do you want to find a table and sit with me?”

This received a series of taunts from his companions in blue.

“Yeah, baby, show me the way,” Lucas slurred again.

Once seated or in Lucas’s case slouched, Olivia showed her concern.

“Are you okay?”

“If you mean, did seeing a girl hacked up by her boyfriend affect me, then no, I’m not.”

“Do you remember me?”

“Yes, I don’t think I thanked you either, so thanks for then, and for saving me now. I’m not really the getting trashed type.”

“Yeah, I noticed.” She smiled. “I can’t believe you would put yourself through ... this, especially after what happen to you.”

He shrugged. “I meant what I said before.”

“Oh yeah, what’s that?”

“You’re pretty.”

He was rewarded with a smile again.

“Do you want to get out of here?”

“Yes. Are you taking me to your house?” He offered her a crooked grin.

“No, I’m taking you home. You need to sleep it off.”

“Now I’m disappointed.”

“You’re cute, Hudson, but something about you has me wanting to look after you.”

Chuck wandered over and although Lucas was way past tipsy, he didn’t miss his expression, envy mixed with annoyance.

“So what’s going on here then?”

“Nothing, Morrison, I was just about to drive Hudson home. I believe he’s had enough.”

“Bit young for you isn’t he?” There was a menace in his eyes that Lucas couldn’t help but miss.

“Not that it is any of your business; I’m only driving him home.”

“Yeah, I bet you are.”

He slouched off looking peeved to the extreme.

“What’s with him?” Lucas asked.

“He’s tried it on and I said no. I guess he’s holding a grudge.”

“Oh.”

Feeling positively ill now all he wanted to do was go home with her.

“Let’s get out of here,” she said.

Once she obtained his address, they rode in silence. She certainly was pretty and he definitely wouldn’t mind taking her to bed. After all, it was his birthday tomorrow, having her as his present was very appealing.

They pulled up to a dark house, indicating Carrie wasn’t home, thankfully. Now they had some privacy. Olivia walked him to the door and helped him open it after his third unsuccessful attempt.

“Do you want to come in?”

“I don’t think I should.”

“Why not?” He played with the hair surrounding her face.

“I don’t want to take advantage of you.”

He laughed for the first time in a while, it felt good.

“You wouldn’t be. I’m a big boy. In fact, I’m twenty one tomorrow.”

He leant against the house as they stood facing each other near the door. The overhead light shot red through her hair as he wound his fingers within it.

“You’re a bit younger than me and besides you’re drunk, so I figure I do have the advantage.”

“Please, don’t make me beg.” He flashed a smile again. “How old are you anyway?”

“Twenty-eight.”

“You don’t look it. It’s my birthday, please, I want the company.”

“Not yet it isn’t, but I’ll stay till it is, for company only.”

“You drive a hard bargain, Livy.”

They talked as he drank water and sobered up. Currently studying for her detective’s exam after ten years on the job, she was nervous about obtaining a promotion. There weren’t many female detectives on the force. Lucas told her about his aspirations to achieve the same goal by twenty-five, and his desire to locate, and bring to justice, the men who’d killed his parents.

Lucas found her intelligence, compassion and beauty enchanting and desired to be close to her, even more than when he was inebriated. Now he was almost sober and it was after twelve he became determined to love her, at least for tonight anyway. His respect for her almost stopped him but his desire won out.

When she stood up to leave, he seized the opportunity. Touching her face with one hand while burying the other in her long dark locks, he kissed her tenderly and thanked her for staying. He watched her expression as she hesitated and seemed to deliberate over what to do. When she kissed him with passion and hunger, he knew her desire had won too. He tore at her clothes, wanting her desperately, and his lust intensified when she did the same. He eased her down onto the couch then took his time. Since Stacy he’d gone through the motions with the others, his need to saviour the moment hadn’t been a requirement, until now. He wanted to taste, kiss and touch every part of her. Olivia was definitely the sexiest woman he’d ever met.

He craved to try all the things he hadn’t or didn’t want to do with the others. He trailed his kisses across her taut stomach and down her lithe legs, right to her toes and back. He stopped at her inner thighs, lingered for a moment, her moans driving him forward so he began pleasuring her with his mouth, the taste of her sending his lust into overdrive. Her groans intensified, spurring him on. Craving to bring her release, he didn’t cease until he did.

Her back arched as she cried out his name. She pulled his face back to hers and kissed him with untamed desire as he thrust inside her. She wrapped her legs around him and matched her strokes with his. They reached a powerful climax together before he scooped her up and took her to his bed so he could start all over again.

Lucas twirled and caressed her hair as they drifted off to sleep. That night he didn’t dream.
