Chapter 16

Adeline

“Ihave to leave in the morning.” Gideon says as he tugs a shirt over his head. I try not to hide the disappointment I feel.  We’ve spent the better part of the morning making out among other things. “I want you to come with Me.” he searches my eyes for an answer. I can’t reply fast enough.

“Yes.” I reply shaking my head. “Yes, I’ll go!” I kiss his lips once again but he pulls away too fast.

“But you don’t even know where we’re going yet.” He chuckles.

“I don’t care.” I exclaim. My body feels light as a feather as his fingertips begin to trace the apex of my thighs once again. I don’t budge, at this point I’d let him do whatever he wants to do to me.

“Fine, since you don’t seem interested in knowing at all, I guess I’ll just tell you.” His eyes sparkle like a little kid waiting for an ice-cream cone. “I have a house in the cape; I need to take care of a few things there for about a week or two. You sure you’re up for it?” what I want to do is jump in his arms in hopes he’d take me away forever, but I know that’s asking too much. I try to reign in my excitement as best I can but fail miserably.

“The cape, as in Cape Cod?” I practically squeal. I’ve never even been to the beach.

“The cape as in Cape Cod.” He confirms with a smile on his face.

“And you want me to go with you?”

“Almost too much.” He reply’s in a whisper. I bring my forehead to his until they’re resting against each other skin to skin.

“When should I pack?” a huge smile spreads across his face matching my own.

“We leave in the morning. You sure you want to come?” for a quick second worry clouds his beautiful face.

“I’ve never been surer of anything in my life.” My words mean more to him than he will ever know. In this short period of time I feel like I could possibly have met my other half. I knew what I had with Jaimie had been strictly platonic. Even though we liked to push the boundaries, we always knew how it would end up.

“What about your mom?” he asks.

“She’ll probably be happy to have me out of her and her new husband’s hair for a bit.” his eyes scrunch up in confusion.

“New husband?”

“Yeah, I found out a couple weeks ago. The guys a real creeper.” I roll away from him and off the bed completely. I spent the night again last night. Something I’ve begun to make a real habit of. No matter how badly I try to break it, I always come back. Tim and Jake have tried to warn me, but it’s no use, I’m a goner.

“Where are you going?” he calls after me.

“I’m taking a shower,” I wiggle my eyebrows. “Why you want to join me?” I’m only half hoping he says yes, and am completely relieved when he declines my offer. Sex is a big thing. Sex with Gideon would be an even bigger thing. I’m not sure my heart could handle something like that so quickly.

“There’s a T-shirt and shorts on the bed for you when you get out.” he knocks a couple times on the bathroom door. I smile at his gesture. He’s always taking care of me.

“Okay, thank you.” Regretfully I resume back to my shower, washing Gideon’s scent away from my body and down the drain. The water is warm and kneads my muscles in soft beads. I take my time, enjoying the hot water as best I can. My nerves are getting the best of me the more I think about spending a whole week with Gideon all alone. I’ve spent the night with him almost every night for the past month but the unknown is what’s eating at me. Summer is practically coming to an end; will he still want me when it’s over?

I start to wonder how a man like him could ever be attracted to me. Not only am I lacking in good looks and charm, but I’m from the complete opposite side of town from him. He’s old money, and I’m no money. How is that even remotely appealing to him?

With Tim, Jake, and Jaimie we all had common ground. Sure we all lived on different sides, but there was a middle ground. Technically weed brought us together as fucked up as that sounds but we stuck together like glue after that. Through all the rumors and setbacks we never faltered.

Is that how it will be with Gideon, will he still want me when he sees where I come from? Yeah he’s seen my small shack of a house, but will he still want me when he finally meets the girl who lives inside? When I told him I was a disease I meant it.
