Chapter 20
Gideon
If I thought I was in trouble before, I’m in even deeper shit now. I promised Ryan over and over again I wouldn’t get involved with Adeline and I failed fucking miserably. He said to stay away from her.
He told me to run as far away from her as I could and what did I do? I took her and we ran together. And then I claimed her like a savage beast. I should have never brought her here. I tried like hell to ignore her, thought if I could find odd jobs to do around the house I could keep my mind off of her, but nothing worked. Every single time I saw her pert body in that skimpy bikini all the blood in my body seemed to rush straight to my dick. I told myself over and over that I wouldn’t take her, that stealing kisses every now and then was enough. But it wasn’t.
First I claimed her with my mouth. Then I watched in awe as she fell apart against my fingers. When I finally sank my dick so deep inside of her I damn near had a heart attack. Leaving her in the bed we just fucked like wild animals in was painful for her and for me. As soon as I looked in her sea blue eyes, I felt an incredible amount guilt. I took her when I shouldn’t have; it’s just going to make things worse for her in the end.
“Hello?” Ryan’s gruff voice answers the phone on the other end as I step outside. The warm sea breeze sends the salty air my way invading my nostrils as I inhale deeply.
“I fucked up.” I run a frustrated hand through my hair.
“You fucked her didn’t you?” I can almost see the disappointment on his face as his voice comes through the phone.
“I didn’t mean too.” I lie. “I mean… Jesus fuck did I fuck up.” I hear him chuckle in the background before he tries to cover it up.
“Come on Gideon, how many times did I tell you to stay away from her?” I pinch the bridge of my nose as I try to think of a way to dig myself out of this massive hole. “Bowler is going to flip his fucking lid.”
“I know he is.” I say in a panic. “I don’t know what came over me!”
“I know what came over you Gideon. You took a young woman to your fucking beach house thinking you weren’t going to fuck her. You stupidly thought having a young woman whore around in a goddamn bikini wasn’t going to get your dick constantly hard.” I can feel his anger through the phone.
“She didn’t whore around.” I try to defend her but it’s no use.
“I told you to end things before they got too far and you completely fucked everything up. Bowler is going to flip, and the whole operation could be in the shitter now.”
“I told you she doesn’t know anything about that.”
“No, what you told me was that girl has a whole bunch of mommy and daddy issues. Don’t let her play the damsel in distress, you’re just going to let yourself get fooled.” He keeps talking over me every time I try to butt in.
“That’s not what I said, Ryan. I told you everything she told me. Every single fucking thing. I’m telling you she has no fucking clue her momma’s supplying half of the east coast with grade A meth.” I practically shout. I move further away from the house so there’s no chance of Adeline hearing our conversation.
“And I’m telling you she’s lying. There ain’t no goddamn way she can live in the same house all these years with the biggest lab sitting smack dab under her nose.” I hear him in hale deeply. “You’re in some serious shit Gideon. I bailed you out so many times when we were in Iraq, but I don’t think I can help you this time.” He sounds defeated.
“Just tell Bowler to hold off a little longer, I’ll try to get more info.” I know I’m making empty promises. I’m only trying to buy Adeline more time, and buy us more time together.
“That’s not possible Gideon; Bowler says he wants to move in on Monday. As of yesterday he still wanted you leading everything.” Fuck. I’m in deep shit.
“But Monday’s only four days away, that’s too soon.”
“Monday is it Gideon. Make sure you get rid of the girl before then. If Bowler, and that’s a big if, still wants you on this case make sure your prepared for it. Don’t let any feelings get in the way of the career you’ve been working your whole life for.” I sigh in defeat. Ryan’s right, I shouldn’t have put everything in jeopardy.
“Yeah, okay.” I reply before hanging up. How the hell am I supposed to get rid of Adeline in just a few days? We were supposed to stay here for at least another week.
“Gideon?” I whip my head around and come face to face with a blushing Adeline… my Snow. “Is everything alright?” she asks. Her body gives away all her true feelings, and right now I can see how worried she is. “I thought I heard yelling.” Her cute brows furrow into worry lines across her forehead.
“Everything’s fine Snow, I was just on the phone with my boss.” I take a deep breath. “Looks like we have to cut this little vacation short, somethings come up at work.” I look away from her, not wanting to see the disappointment written across her beautiful face.
“When do we leave?” she asks.
“Tonight.” I walk by her swiftly, leaving her at the end of the driveway all by herself. Everything will be easier to deal with if I keep my distance. For the both of us.
