Chapter 5

CAPTAIN JAMIE HOLT

I knew it was going to happen as soon as I saw her that day in her office. It was hard to wait as long as I did, but it was worth it. It wasn’t my first time fucking in space, but I knew that it was hers. That made it hot for me too. I moved away from her desk and pulled on my space suit. I looked at her. She was flushed and quiet.

“Well, Ambassador Jones, I think we should leave this out of your official reports. What do you think?” I said playfully.

“I think that is a wise choice. I think you should leave it out of your captain’s log as well,” she said, pulling on the tight space suit over her hips.

WHURER! WHURER! A siren blared and lights flashed.

“What the hell?!” Avery said in a panic as she quickly finished dressing.

“We’re in range of another ship. Command deck, now!” I shouted as I ran out of her office and down the hall with her tailing me.

“Report!” I shouted as I moved onto the deck.

“There’s a ship in range. It looks Kalazaron!” the ship’s pilot shouted.

“Good. Shields are up?” I shouted.

“Yes, shields are up. We’re secure!”

“So we should try to communicate with them? Right? Send out a friendly communication line of peace,” Avery said as she moved in front of me. I pushed her out of my line of sight. She did not know the real reason we were there and she was about to find out. She was not going to like it. It did not matter; I had to do my mission.

“Get out of the way, Ambassador. Charge electro pulse now! Get ready to pull them in!”

“What?! Captain, what are you doing? No,” she shouted.

“Are they in range?” I asked ignoring Avery’s request.

“In five minutes!”

“Ready… steady… as soon as we hit range, hit them with the electro pulse.”

“But the electro pulse? That will stop their ship and fry their communications. It will even disable each Kalazaron on that ship into temporary paralysis!” Avery shouted in a frantic manner as she ran around me, trying to stop me.

I grabbed her by the shoulders and looked her directly in the eyes and said, “Ambassador Jones, this is why we are out here. We’re capturing that ship. We’re capturing the Kalazaron and taking them back to Earth. That is why we are out here. It is our duty. Now step aside and let me do my job!”

Her eyes grew wide and watery at the betrayal that I and Vice President Thompson had played on her, and I felt sorry and a bit of guilt. But this was bigger than all of us, and this was the only way to get answers; we all knew it.

“In range, Captain!”

“Electro pulse! Fire! Now! Fire!” I shouted, watching my team go into action and fire. As they did, the Kalazaron ship came into view. It was a smaller, military ship with a cargo bay, which meant they were on a fishing expedition for supplies or human females. It was better that we got them before they got us.

“This isn’t right! Stop! I command you to stop!” Avery shouted, but everyone ignored her.

An electric blue suddenly engulfed the ship as our electro pulse encircled and disabled it. It was obvious that the ship that was in driving motion was suddenly just drifting. My crew rejoiced with shouts at the conquest.

“Now, pull her in. Prepare bay for ship capture!” I shouted.

“This is wrong! We’re doing to them what they have done to us. Don’t you see that this is how war starts? An eye for an eye that goes on for all eternity!” Avery shouted at my crew and I, trying to get anyone on her side.

“They started it,” I said as I grabbed her shoulders again. This time I needed her to be quiet and not be in the way. This was a critical moment. “Listen, either you’re in this or you’re out, and I lock you in your room until that ship and its crew is secure? It is up to you.”

She narrowed her eyes at me in hate. I could tell that it was the moment of her trust for me leaving her heart. Then she crossed her arms and said, “Fine. Do your duty, Captain.”

The ship grew closer and I was prepared for battle. “All battalions, weapons charged and in assault formation in the cargo bay to welcome a Kalazaron ship.”

“You’re not going to kill them, are you?” Avery asked quietly.

“No, just taze them into submission and throw them in the cells,” I said to her, but I didn’t look at her. I kept my eye on the prize. She didn’t know exactly how much she was needed for this mission and I wasn’t going to tell her until that one, crucial moment.

We watched in high tension as the ship was reeled in like a fish on a fishing pole. It was quiet and we were all terrified and excited. For all we knew, their ship could turn into a big bomb and blow us all to pieces once it was on board.

“Cargo secure, Captain,” my technician shouted at me.

“On the count of twenty, hit them with the electro pulse to stabilize bodily movement inside the ship. Begin count now!”

“Twenty, nineteen…”

As they counted, I grabbed Avery’s hand and led her down to the cargo area. She was pissed, but I knew that she was curious. She had waited a long time for this, just as I had. I stood inside the cargo looking at my troops lined up and ready with weapons in hand. Then I moved Avery against the wall and whispered. “Now this is all yours, Ambassador Jones. You take command.”

“What?!” she shouted looking at me in shock. “You want me to command your troops? I don’t understand, Jamie. What the hell is going on here?”

“Listen…” I said.

“Eight, seven…” the technician’s voice was loud and clear over the radio.

“When that count gets to zero, it’s going to fire a pulse to temporarily paralyze the Kalazaron inside the ship. But it will only last forty seconds, and during those forty seconds, our troops need to board and secure all prisoners on that ship. But only you can give the command to board and only you can give the command to take their captain. It is a matter of space politics.”

She narrowed her eyes in hate at me, “So that’s it. That’s why I’m here.”

“Yes. Now do you understand?”

“Two, one…”

“Do you understand?!” I shouted.

“Yes, this is my mission!”

“Zero. Firing pulse!”

WHOOSH!

The pulse fired on the ship and I watched in amazement as Avery took on a whole new level of confidence. “Board the ship and take everyone aboard as a prisoner! Go! Now! Go! Board the ship!”

All troops went into action. I looked at her. I pulled her into my arms and planted a firm kiss on her lips. She pulled back, pissed. I just smiled. I cocked my gun and followed the troops in.
