The Big D by Brittany Crowley (11)

When we get to the airport we bypass all the places I think we’re going and drive right out on the tarmac. I guess you have top priority when you’re flying in a private plane.

Then we drive past all the commercial planes towards a secluded area. “Here we are Miss Fletcher. Mr. Donovan’s already boarded.”

I look out the opposite window I’ve been staring through and see an enormous plane. “Please call me Aggie.”

I’m feeling a little out of my element and wish I could see Grant through one of the windows for some peace of mind. “Are you sure this is it?” I turn around and point to the plane.

“Sure is, he’s had that thing for a few years now.”

“Holy crap.” I know I’ve said it a lot, but how can I not. I spot the logo on the back of the plane. Donovan International.

When I get to the top of the steps and through the entry way, I’m met by a stewardess. A gorgeous blonde with huge tits. Jesus.

“Welcome aboard Miss Fletcher, Mr. Donovan’s in the back. His favorite spot.” She points her finger and I can’t help but feel there was a subliminal message there.

I force a smile on my face and proceed the rest of the way on the plane. Wow, nothing like a regular airline. Not that I have much experience with flying. Mimi took me to Disney once when I was 12. There’s mostly couches lining the sides with a few sets of four seats facing each other with a table in the middle. It all looks completely extravagant, not even like you’re on an actual airplane.

The flight attendant roughly walks past me, pushing me to the side. “Rude.” I mumble but watch her.

She approaches where I can now see Grant and bends down to whisper in his ear. He glares at her and shakes his head no, clearly frustrated. I hope this situation with the photographers doesn’t have him stressed out. They didn’t try to follow us or anything so I don’t see why he’d still be worried about it.

Flight Attendant Barbie starts to walk by me and I see she’s gonna try to hip check me again or something. “Touch me again and I’ll stupefy your ass!” I can be ragey when I want to be. It takes a lot for me to whip out a Harry Potter spell.

“Hey baby.” Grant steps in between us and pulls me into a hug. After pulling back I can see the nervousness in his eyes. “What’s the matter?”

“Nothing at all Mr. Donovan. I’ll check with the pilot to see if we can finally take off.” She answers like he asked her the question then leaves.

“Please, please tell me you haven’t slept with her.”

He doesn’t answer so I know the truth. I sigh walking towards the back. Once I’m seated I wiggle around, these seats are lush!

I feel Grant at my side, so I roll my neck to look him. “Exactly how big of a man whore are you?”

“I’m not. Not anymore. There’s been no one besides you since that first night.”

“Thank god. But that doesn’t make me feel any better really. We’ve had sex without a condom and you’re telling me you’ve slept with people like her.”

“I’m clean. Promise baby.”

“I’m not talking about a shower Grant.”

He laughs. “I just had my yearly physical a few weeks ago. I’m clean.” He reiterates.

“Me too in case you were wondering. I haven’t been with anyone in…” I start thinking. Damn it’s been a long time since I broke up with my last boyfriend.

“Don’t.”

“What? I’m trying to ease your mind.”

“I don’t need to hear about you fucking someone else.”

I glare at him unsure if I’m mad at him or the situation. I’m going with the latter.

He grabs my hand and links our fingers. “Sorry, I’m on edge with the problems in Vegas and the shit you had to deal with today.”

“It’s okay. At least I’m not the only one who feels a little jealous. You bring out the worst in me Grant.” I laugh.

“I like you jealous. And fuck, when you used your spell on her.” He groans and starts nuzzling my neck.

“Promise me you’ll never make me fly with someone you’ve slept with before. It’s awkward and I don’t like how it makes me feel.”

“Consider her fired.” He whispers in my ear.

“Maybe not fired, just… not around you.” I smile at him when he pulls back and starts laughing.

“You have a heart of gold Agnes Fletcher. Even though you stupefied her ass.” We both laugh as he grabs my hand.

When did this become my life? Aggie Fletcher the jet-setter. Aggie Fletcher the girl who wears designer clothes and cute as hell shoes. Aggie Fletcher who can snap her fingers and get someone fired.

Don’t judge, you would have gotten the bitch fired too!

“Oh crap! I forgot to call Mimi before we took off. It’s Friday!”

He pulls out his cell phone and hands it to me. “Go ahead.”

“Thank you. The minutes on mine ran out after I talked to you earlier.”

He groans and I know he wants to argue with me about my pay by use phone. But I already have his to my ear calling my grandmother.

“I don’t want any!” She yells.

“Mimi it’s me.”

“Agnes? Where are you?”

I groan. “Sorry, I’m actually about to take off for Vegas! I forgot to call and say I wouldn’t be there tonight, but things got crazy.”

“This about the backyard boinker?”

“Um… yes.” My cheeks ignite and Grant caresses my scarlet cheek with the back of his hand.

“I’ve read the articles sweetie, the girls at the gym shoved them in my face this morning because they recognized you. Just… be careful. He has a lot of baggage you’re not used to.”

“I will be. Promise. Love you!”

“Love you too. Have fun, you deserve it.”

We hang up and not for the first time today I’m wondering what’s in that freaking article.

“You know we were on the front page of a gossip magazine today?”

He looks alarmed. “Which one?”

“I have no clue, but I need to read the article. Apparently, it says a lot about you.” I laugh.

“Don’t read it.”

He pulls his phone out of my hands. “Why not? I’m in it too you know.”

“I wanted to wait to have this talk until you were more comfortable with the idea of our relationship. But, I have no choice now.”

“You’re scaring me. It can’t be that bad.” Please don’t be bad.

“It’s not, but they portray it to be worse than it is. Keep an open mind… please.” I nod my head urging him to continue. “I haven’t mentioned my parents to you, but they’re Eli and Victoria Donovan.”

My eyes bulge out of their sockets. “The Actors? America’s golden couple. They’re your parents?”

“Yes. With parents in that profession, it brought me into a certain life style.”

“So not as old money as I thought. I’m assuming this is where you tell me about the drugs, drinking and women?”

He laughs. “Not entirely. One woman and her name’s Michelle Jones. She was the daughter of one of my parents many colleagues and we grew close one summer when our parents were on set together.”

My eyes are still bulged because I know exactly who she is. The it girl in Hollywood right now. She’s been in so many movies it’s like they’re trying to shove her down our throats. Girlfriend needs a serious vacation from the spotlight.

“Keep going.” I urge.

“We broke up a little while ago because she was cheating with my friend Randy. I didn’t realize how much her profession had changed her. By turning a blind eye hoping she’d find herself, I screwed myself and my happiness in the process. I was an idiot.”

Red flashing lights are going off in my head. The way he’s talking about her is like a man still in love.

“She’s pregnant.” He pauses and pleads with his eyes.

“Jesus.” I run my hand through my hair. “By breaking up a while ago… how much time do you really mean?”

“Officially, seven months ago.”

I look down at my lap. How am I supposed to react to finding out my boyfriend’s ex is carrying his baby? My eyes are still bugged out and I can’t hide the look of horror on my face if I tried.

“I need to lie down.”

“There’s nothing to worry about Aggie.”

I stand up and start pacing in front of him. “Nothing to worry about? I just found out my boyfriend’s having a baby with someone else. Not just someone else, but a beautiful movie star! It’s not the ideal situation, but I’m trying to make my brain catch up. Is that why you slept with me so many weeks ago? I was just the horse, wasn’t I?”

“The horse…what?”

“You know! When you fall off something, which for you would be sex, you get back on the metaphorical horse.”

“God no. I slept with you because I saw a gorgeous girl that made me feel crazy things when she looked at me. I slept with you because you’re the single most beautiful thing I’ve ever laid my eyes on and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see you again.”

“Ugh, why do you always have to say the right thing?” I walk over and think about sitting on his lap but move to the chair next to him.

“Baby, it’s not mine. I know it’s not. You need to trust me on this.”

“I’m trying, I really am Grant. But, how can you be so sure? There’s a possibility…” He cuts me off.

“Here’s the fucked-up part.” He sighs and I can tell he’s unsure how much to tell me.

“Just do it, rip the band-aid off man!”

“She’s portraying me as the father because she doesn’t want anyone to know she was with someone else. It’ll hurt her good girl image.”

“You haven’t set anyone straight? You just let people believe you’re the father?”

“Yes, but that’s why I’m going to Vegas. There’s no problem with my restaurants. I’m flying out to have a meeting with her and her “people”. I found out she’s on location there and after last night… this can’t be hanging over us.”

“But, why would you help her after everything she did to you? How are you so sure the baby’s not yours?”

“Because she told me it’s not mine. I also did my own digging. The timelines don’t add up. We were broken up before she got pregnant so there’s no chance in hell I’m that baby’s father.” He grabs me and pulls me on his lap. “As for the other questions, I don’t know if I have the answer? Maybe a bruised ego. Not wanting anyone to think I’m horrible in the sack.” He smiles, but it doesn’t reach his eyes. “Or maybe I felt bad for her.”

“Grant Donovan, you're an animal savage in the sack. No worries there.” I know I’ve said the right thing when his smile beams at me.

“Honestly, I’ve been through a lot with Michelle and I felt like I owed it to her. There’s a lot more to it, but for now.” He sighs. “Please tell me you believe me.”

“I believe you.”

“Okay, let’s get back to you stroking my ego baby. This animal savage wants to ravage you.”

“You’re like a freaking machine. You’re always horny!”

“Only around you Aggie.” He bends down and initiates a kiss. A sweet kiss full of hope and relief.

When we pull back, I keep our foreheads connected. “Thank you for sharing all that with me.”

“I have a feeling about you Agnes Fletcher.”

“Stop, or I’m gonna get used to your sweet side.”

“Nothing but sweet for my girl.”

“You know, sometimes I don’t like sweet. Hate it as a matter of fact.”

“What times?”

“Animal savage times.” I wink.

“Oh baby, this beast is ready to come out and play.”

I yelp when he quickly stands up with my legs still straddling his lap. I have no clue where we’re going until he opens a door in the back and places me on a giant bed.

This vacation may be just what I need.
