The Baby Arrangement (A Winston Brother's Novel #1) by J.L. Beck, Stacey Lewis (58)

Knox had made good of his word on taking care of me and made certain I felt loved every single day. A few weeks had passed and it was starting to become harder to hide my growing belly and Knox and I both knew that meant it was time to tell my father about our secret affair.

“Are you nervous baby?” Knox questioned his breath fanning against my earlobe and sending shivers up and down my spine. I was ready to spend eternity with the man before me, and all we had to do was get through my father.

“A little bit. We’ve come so far and I don’t want to hurt him, but I also don’t want things to get out of hand…” Knox knew what I meant, I was certain of it. We couldn’t let his ex-wife expose us before we had a chance to tell him. Seconds ticked by while we waited for my father to appear in the meeting room that was connected to his office by a door.

The sound of a chair thumping against the wall in my father offices had both Knox and I gravitating towards the entrance to his office.

“Harder Mr. Thompkins…” My eyes grew to the size of saucers and before I could stop myself I was pushing the door open, and crossing the threshold. I knew that voice, and the body it was attached too.

“What the fuck…” My father growled, trying to cover himself and Kelly, Knox’s ex-wife. A wave of nauses and dizziness rushed through me and I gripped onto Knox’s shoulder for strength.

“Actually it should be me who is saying what the fuck, since you’re supposed to be my business partner and friend…” Knox’s rugged face was void of all emotion but I could tell he pissed off over what we both had discovered.

“Get out, both of you. Get out now.” Kelly tried to shoo us away, her cheeks growing pink with embrassement.

“Did you forget about your meeting with Knox and I next door?” I narrowed my eyes at my father, trying to dismiss the fact that he was fucking Knox’s ex wife.

“Ahhh, yes I’m sorry sweetheart.” My father’s expression softened and I almost felt back because I knew we were going to break his heart soon.

Kelly pushed off of my father, and adjusted her skirt, a smirk playing at her lips, “I don’t know why you’re so upset Knox. You knocked up his daughter so it’s only fair that he gets to knock up your ex-wife, right?”

Fire filled my veins and as badly as I tried to stop myself I couldn’t. Within seconds I was crossing the room, my fists swinging as anger coursed through my body. My knuckles grazed the bridge of her nose, and when she expelled a scream of pain I relished in it.

Knox was on me before I could do anything else, his strong arms wrapping around my middle, gently, and protectively.

“You’re pregnant…” My father’s voice wobbled, as he turned away from me, covering his exposed parts. It was weird to be having this conversation with him when he had been interrupted while screwing one of the people I hated most.

“Yes, Knox and I have been seeing each other for awhile…” Anger swirled in his once soft eyes, and I knew he was going to say something that would end us both.

“In my office, my business…” He narrowed his eyes at Knox. “Behind my back…” Venom filled his words.

Our business…” Knox corrected him and then smiled, before continuing, “I guess we’re even now aren’t we?” The muscles in my father’s jaw tightened and I wondered if for a second he was going to explode on us.

“Even? Not yet, but I will be soon…” My father’s eyes cut to me, “and you, I’m so disappointed in your Meghan, you could’ve done so many things with your life, but instead you got wrapped up in him.”

There was smugness in his words that I didn’t like, “he cares about me, and that’s all that matters. We’re going to have this baby together and be a couple, in fact, were getting married.” I shoved my hand out to show him the two-carat engagement ring that Knox had given me.

Our relationship wasn’t perfect, and it was rocky at times but love was never easy if it was worth it.

Kelly sucked in a loud breathe, “we’ve barely finalized our divorce Knox, how could you?” Coldness washed over me as I looked her in the eyes.

“I’ve loved Meghan since she was a little girl, but I never acted on my feelings because it felt wrong, even when she was a teenager. Now she’s old enough to make her own choices, and I won’t let anyone, not even you stand in the way of us, our baby, and our future.” Knox held me together, his lips against the back of my head as he spoke.

“Get out of my office.” My father ordered, his eyes furious, and swirling with hate, and rage. Sadness consumed me and tears filled my eyes. Knox guided us to the door, but right before either of us could move across the threshold and out the door we heard my father’s final words.

“This isn’t over Knox. Not by a long shot.” I swallowed hard, knowing that it wasn’t over, at least not really. It was merely the start to something new. A new life, a new love.
