“I’m not okay with that.”
“Just throwing out suggestions,” he said casually. “If you wanted to sleep with other guys, I wouldn’t stop you.”
A guffaw escaped my lips.
“You sure you’re not just saying that so you could sleep with other girls?”
“What other girls?” he asked, blue eyes open and honest. “You’ve ruined other girls for me, Ms. Ryan.”
Part of me was hoping he was serious about that, but other part of me knew this man was just pulling my leg. This was Josh Myers after all.
“Or,” I said archly. “We could go through with it, and if it doesn’t work out, we can get divorced. They never said we had to stay together. Just that we had to get married.”
“Yeah, but they want grandchildren,” he reminded me. “I don’t think I could get divorced from the mother of my children.”

“I try,” he said with a magnanimous grin.
But still, we weren’t making progress, so I let out another huge sigh.
“So what are we going to do?”
He shrugged. “We could just elope.”

“I mean,” he added. “You know, if you wanted. Our parents want to be the masterminds of all this stuff. We could just say ‘fuck you,’ go to Vegas, get married, and that’ll be it. We’ll show them we’re in control of our lives.”

“My parents would hate if we got married in Vegas,” I said.
“If we left first thing in the morning, I could get us there by Monday.”
