Chapter 7

Joshua Goes Out With Her

I woke up the next morning still thinking about the afternoon before. I’d had great sex before, but what had happened with Naomi was mind-blowing.

I contemplated fighting with her again just to see if we could wind up where we did the day before, but that seemed dumb. What was going to happen was going to happen, and there was no way to stop it. Besides, the woman was amazing. She’d taken my cock so well and was so into it, squealing and squirming like a wet kitten.

And yet, where was the brunette now? I’d been tempted to pick up where we left off later that night, but Naomi never left her bedroom. Was she avoiding me after last night’s steamy session?

Finally, I saw her downstairs, eating another bagel, sitting at the same spot she’d sat at before. Casually, I strolled to the fridge, poured my same glass of orange juice, and went for a bagel as well.

What to say? I wanted to talk, but we hadn’t spoken since our combination fight and love-making session. And yet Naomi’s wouldn’t look at me, her attention fixed on her phone screen.

So this time, instead of sitting at the couch, I joined her at the table.

“Morning,” I said.

“Morning,” she replied, barely audible.

“How you feeling?” I asked her.

She shrugged. “I’m okay,” still not looking up.

“I didn’t see you at all last night afterwards.”

“Yeah, I didn’t get much sleep earlier this week,” she said. “I was tired.”

I didn’t buy it.

“So what’s on your mind right now? What are you thinking?”

Her head finally came up, meeting my eye. She hesitated for a moment.

“I was thinking about going shopping later. I want to spend some money before my dad takes it away.”

I was getting annoyed. The brunette was so frustrating. I knew she was thinking about the sex and yet she was talking about shopping? What the hell? I wanted to hear her acknowledge our session, and not just play it off.

“You know, the shower’s big enough for two,” were my casual words. “Want to head up there before you head out?”

“You want to shower with me?” she asked, eyes wide.

I grinned.

“Sure, why not?”

She colored then, a beautiful pink.

“I prefer to shower alone,” she muttered, finishing the bagel and leaving the table. “I’ll go first this time.”

I sighed, peeved at her resistance. But the girl was already gone, the sound of water coming from upstairs. Just then, I looked at my phone and saw a text from my mom:

“How are things going with Naomi?

“Ok.”

“Are you two getting along?”

“Yes, things are fine”

“You better come home engaged, Joshua!”

I didn’t reply, but another text pinged.

“I’m not joking, Joshua. This is what’s best for both of you”

“Okay mom.”

“Good. Love you,” she wrote before signing off.

I tossed my phone across the table, aggravated at my parents’ insistence. I wanted to just pack my things, get in my car, and drive as far away from the Hamptons as possible. Anything sounded better than going along with this program.

But when the shower stopped running, I got to thinking about Naomi again. If I fled, things would be even harder for her, and in that moment, I didn’t want to abandon the female, even though we weren’t exactly friends. We had controlling parents, that’s all. So I decided to stick around. And since I was going to wait it out, I figured I would do what my mom suggested: work on it.

After a while, Naomi came back down dressed up in a nice blouse and short skirt. My mind was about to cross into sexual territory again, but I didn’t want to scare her off.

“So, you’re just going to go shopping today?” I asked casually.

“Yeah, I’m going to go out for the day, then come back around sunset and lay out on the beach,” she replied. “What about you?”

“I was thinking maybe I’d go with you,” was my casual reply. “I’ll drive us to wherever you want to go, and then tomorrow, we’ll go and do something I want to do.”

She raised a skeptical eyebrow. “You want to go shopping?”

“Not really,” I said honestly. “But, hey, you know, we should probably spend some time together if we’re about to get married.”

She laughed. “We’re not getting married.”

“I was kidding.”

We stood there in an awkward silence for a moment.

“You’d really do those things with me?” she asked again, nonplussed.

“Look, Naomi, we’ve got to try here. I’m okay with trying. I’m okay with honestly telling my parents that we gave it a shot so it’ll get them off our backs, you know? We’re already here, like you said. So why not try to get along at least?”

She pondered for a moment. “Okay. Then, go get cleaned up. I’ll be waiting by your Mustang.”

And inexplicably, my heart turned over as she shot me a sweet smile.

* * *

Driving through the Hamptons, our conversation was easy. We were both anxious at first, but thankfully, Naomi and I settled into a good back and forth with each other. We were talking, listening to music while chatting, and we managed to make each other laugh occasionally.

Of course, my job in the stores was usually just to hold the things she picked out while she looked for more things to pick out. It was mostly clothes. I was a little bored, but Naomi helped relieve my boredom by trying on lots of the clothes for me, many of which were sexy and revealing.

“How many credit cards are you gonna max out?” I asked her.

“I don’t know, why don’t I just spend it all?” she asked with a teasing smile. “I want everything in here.”

“Hey, fine by me. Want any help trying things on? I almost worked at Macy’s way back in the day.”

“So, you have had a job before,” she quipped. “I’m fine. I can take clothes on and off without any help, thanks,” she said, whirling around before prancing off.

As she examined another dress, a cute girl near the perfume section shot me a friendly look. I smiled back, nodding at her. Unfortunately, Naomi saw.

“All you men are alike,” she sniffed haughtily.

No need to get jealous, honey. We’re not married yet.”

She sniffed again.

“So we’re starting off our sham marriage with you checking out every piece of ass in a store?”

I threw my head back and laughed then.

“What can I say? I’ve never had a problem getting the ladies. Besides, girls like it when they see a guy with another woman. It sets off that competitive pheromone.”

“Whatever that means,” she said, rolling her eyes.

“You know, if we do get married, you can’t go around maxing out my credit cards. You’re going to have a budget, young lady.”

“Who says you’re going to be the breadwinner, big guy?” she asked with an arched brow. “I’m the one with the degree, remember?”

I laughed again.

“Hey, I’m about to become a high-powered executive that runs his own recording studio, degree or no degree,” I retorted. “You better show me some respect.”

She giggled too.

“You better earn it, sir,” she murmured, shooting me a playful glance.

Even though most of the morning and afternoon was more of the same, I highly enjoyed it all. It wasn’t just fun, it was oddly fulfilling. The day was really great … and I couldn’t wait to spend more time with this entrancing brunette.
