CHAPTER NINE

Maggie

I couldn’t focus today. The puppies were as cute as ever. They wriggled everywhere, fluffy and adorable, cheerful balls of fur.

But Evan. Oh god.

How can a man like him be even real? So sexy, so commanding, so alpha. Everything that happened between us at the jewelry store burned like wildfire into my brain. He touched me hard and tender at once. I don’t know what came over me when I told him to stick the ring in my ass but he did it and it had been amazing.

With the diamond in my anus, Evan marked me.

He was mine and I was his.

Plus, there was that massive cock.

My butt was curved to his shape, the tight passage filled to the brim with male jizz.

Oh god, oh god.

Had I really had anal sex? In public?

But yes, it’d happened. I’d let Evan put the engagement ring and then his fuckshaft in my back end, moaning and writhing the entire time.

It was stupid.

I was a sap.

Even a sucker.

Because this isn’t real.

But when Evan came close, it didn’t matter.

All thoughts of reality flew out of my mind, his charisma dominating my soul.

Because I was well and truly crazy for him.

But did the billionaire feel the same about me?

I caught sight of my naked finger and bit my lip.

The pink diamond ring had to be sized for my digit, so it’d be a while before I got it. But as soon as it was ready, it was going on my hand.

Mine. Wow!

Because the rock was huge. Bigger than the candy rings I bought when I was a silly kid fantasizing about my dream prince. Bigger even than Dorinda’s ring, the mean girl from high school so long ago. And now here I was about to have a massive rock because Evan was my fiancé.

The man of my dreams.

Prince Charming come to life.

A billionaire alpha who had the world at his fingertips.

But then reality intruded.

Whimper. Aarf, aarf!

The sound of little puppy cries dragged my attention to where it belonged.

“I’m sorry, babies,” came my apologetic murmur. “Didn’t mean to ignore you. Just got lost in my thoughts.”

A litter of chocolate labs, soft and wriggly, whimpered and crawled on the blanket while I finished cleaning their cage.

“It’s okay, you guys. You can go back in now,” were my soothing words.

Making kissing noises at their tiny puppy faces, I helped them back into their cage and finished up checking off what I’d done on the chart nearby.

I was late doing this for the day. Normally, it wouldn’t take me this long, but inside was a confused turmoil. All because of Evan. He was everywhere. In my thoughts. In my dreams at night. I couldn’t get rid of him.

But I had to.

Because a man like Evan doesn’t belong with somebody like me. He’s rich, powerful, and handsome. The man literally grew up in a mansion. Meanwhile, I was a minimum wage slave at a pet store in scummy clothes and a dirty apron.

Soon, this fairy tale would be over and I’d have nothing. Did Cinderella feel like a fraud with time growling at her heels? But it was the truth. Soon, the clock was going to hit twelve and all I’d have was a pumpkin and a twenty thousand dollar check.

Well, at least the pumpkin was an engagement ring worth two hundred thousand dollars.

I slumped against the wall, suddenly feeling miserable.

Because honestly, I don’t even care about the money anymore.

Twenty thousand, two hundred thousand.

None of it mattered.

Instead, my heart’s filled with Evan. I can’t get enough of the alpha. The way he takes what he wants. His commanding air in the jewelry store, the way he knows exactly how to finagle every situation.

But right. The money. The deal. The ring. It was just a farce.

Dejection twisted in my stomach, making me sick.

“Are you okay in there, Maggie?”

I jumped at the sound of Dr. Reynolds’ voice and almost fell over. “Yes, coming!”

You need to get your shit together, came the voice within. You have a job and animals to take care of. You might be living in a dream world with Evan now but once he’s gone, what next? Get with it.

Heart heavy, I picked up the chart for the next batch of incoming animals and began to work.

But it was hard to get the billionaire out of my mind. His face swam in front of me. Those piercing blue eyes. That mouth that latched on hotly to my clit and made me beg for mercy. The clever tongue, licking at my pussy and then my anus.

Oh god.

How do I forget that?

But the man was controlling too.

“Quit your job,” he’d rasped after our last hot session. We were in his bed, sweaty and still panting. “I want you to be ready for me, anytime I want.”

What?

How was that possible?

But the alpha wasn’t taking no for an answer. He stroked my cunt and shoved his fingers deep into me, testing the freshly-used channel.

I was such a whore for him that I just lay there with my legs open wide while he did whatever he wanted. He pushed two fingers in me, then pulled out, using my body like a violin.

Swept away, I bit my lip and moaned slightly.

I was trying to focus on what he was saying but it was difficult. His fingers banged my twat and flooded me with even more honey. I was ready to take his giant rod again.

Then his words jolted my mind.

“No, I can’t quit my job,” were my breathy words. “After you get what you want and go off to be CEO, I still have a life here. I need to make money and pay for school.”

“I’ll give you the money,” he said commandingly, that hard rod stiffening against his thigh. “It’s not an issue. I can give you anything you want.”

“Can you make me a vet?” I managed archly between more hot pants.

He smiled, eyes knowing.

“Watch and I’ll make it happen, sweetheart.”

But that was wrong. And it was no good for me. I didn’t want to be dependent on a man who was going to leave me in the dust when the clock struck midnight. So breathing hard, I shook my head.

“No, Evan. You have your goal to be CEO and I have mine to be a vet,” were my gasped words. “I can’t take it.”

His reply was cut-off because I screamed then, body going up in flames. Oh god, oh god, the billionaire always does this to me, making me forget everything including my name. How long would it last? How would I survive once this was all over?

But I had to. So in the pet store, I sighed and shoved a pencil into my messy up-do, letting go of the memories with Evan.

I adore the man, but I can’t give up everything I worked for at the drop of a hat. That makes no sense. It’s like giving up your dreams in life for love. But what was love? What were we doing here exactly? It wasn’t supposed to be love, that was for sure.

So I shook my head resolutely.

No, definitely not.

I needed to keep my head on straight.

But you can’t, the internal voice whispered again. You’re falling for the billionaire. Be honest, you’re already up to your eyeballs in love with him.

No! That couldn’t be true. No way. This was a business deal, and a short term one too. Falling in love with him would only end with me getting screwed, and not in a good way.

God. The screwing though. I shifted my thighs.

This morning, I’d rushed out his apartment, late already. My panties had been impossible to find, so I was commando today, nether parts bare and airy. But oh god. After being with Evan, no panties were a bad idea because juices ran hot and free down my thighs. Heated tingles flickered deep within. God, I wanted to rub one out so bad. I imagined how it would feel to have him deep in my hot snatch as I moaned luxuriously, arching and clamping hard.

But my thoughts were interrupted.

“Are you okay, Maggie?” Dr. Reynolds asked, popping his head around the corner.

My face turned fire red.

“Of course, Doctor. I just...I pricked my finger giving the puppies some vitamin shots.”

“Okay. Be careful now. We don’t want to lose you to a preventable accident.”

“Of course not, Doctor.”

He’s right. I didn’t want to lose myself and my dream to a preventable accident. I had to talk to Evan about wearing a condom next time.

Because at eighteen, I had to be fertile. I was teeming with youth and vitality and Evan’s the only one I’ve ever been with. But what kind of Cinderella story would that be? Because in the fairy tale, the prince goes around looking for his princess, brandishing a glass slipper. And when he finds her, he whisks her off into the horizon, the love birds united at last.

But if I were pregnant, Prince Charming wouldn’t be so interested. I’d be barefoot and huge, hair messy and face dirty. There’d be no happy ending. There’d just be me and my pumpkin.

So no, pregnancy was a bad idea. I couldn’t afford an accident. And definitely not by a prince about to leave his Cinderella behind.
