CHAPTER TEN

THREE DAYS LATER…

KIRA

I agreed to date Blade but didn’t have all the answers to how a long-distance relationship would work. Other people did the long-distance things all the time, so maybe there was hope for us, too. I also decided to keep things on the down-low just as Blade requested. I was so thrilled by the thought of him wanting me to be a part of his life. Me, a simple woman like me. I was never going to be the same again.

Blade was the most romantic guy ever; he knew the right things to say. He knew the right gifts to buy. He even paid the valet to go get my rental car and my few belongings that were at the City Beach Hotel to bring back to the Four Seasons. I even got permission to expand my trip into a working vacation since Blade had some time off before an upcoming tour. My stroke of good fortune was too good to believe.

I even went shopping, alone that was, because Blade would have gotten mobbed by the throng of fans always hovering around to get to a member of the band.

My mornings were filled with joy and expectation as each day ended up with a surprise from Blade while the nights were full of pleasurable sex.

Blade decided that our first date would be in a town between the Trash Monkeys destination and my hometown. This actually made sense to me.

You know, I didn’t really blame Blade for being so media conscious, but I was not comfortable with the generalization. For instance, I found no delight in publishing stories that were untrue and would eventually hurt the other party. Though I favored celebrity gossip, I always made sure what I wrote held a more significant, positive content than negative.

“Are you ready for our date?” Blade asked while getting dressed in a pair of loose-fitting polo jeans and a black tee-shirt. He tied his long black hair back into a ponytail.

I pushed the disturbing thoughts out of my job from my mind and replied, “I can’t wait to go on our date. Thank you for the perfume, by the way,” I added.

Blade had bought me some ridiculously expensive French perfumes. My clothes weren’t expensive, but I wore one of the outfits I’d bought earlier, the one Blade really liked.

“It was made for you.” Those were the first words that came out of his mouth the day I stepped into the simple, mid-thigh, buttoned-down jean dress with a yellow belt. I wore a cute pair of chunky-heeled ankle boots to complement my outfit.

We were going to a movie theatre, so I decided to go nude with my makeup.

“So what are we watching?” I asked. I didn’t have time to look at the tickets.

“Something sci-fi,” he murmured.

I was excited about the movie. I loved science fiction but never chose to watch those types of movies myself.

“You look gorgeous.” He bestowed me with a sexy grin.

“Thank you, but you look sexier,” I returned with a flirty smile.

Blade was simple. He wore ragged jeans, a white tee-shirt, and black lace-up boots, then a pair of dark Ray-Ban shades covered his amazing azure eyes.

“Are we good to go?” he asked, and I affirmed with a nod.

He held my upper arm possessively in his grip as we stepped into the elevator. I had come to know some parts of Blade these past few days I had spent with him.

Before now, I had called Penny, my boss, letting her know I would not be reporting at the office for some days because of the project I was working on. She felt really excited and hopeful for a breaking story that would go viral and propel Daybreak Journal into daylight again.

We got to the movie theatre thirty minutes later.

The theatre was a vast hall that could contain more than five hundred people, but there wasn’t a large turn-up. There was a line where people stood to buy tickets, but since we already had ours, we moved straight to the entrance.

“Would you like to have some popcorn or fries?” Blade asked, really showing himself to be a true gentleman.

“Popcorn, please.” I smiled.

“Okay, save us middle seats while I get you popcorn,” he responded.

“Why middle seats? What’s wrong with the front row?” I asked.

“I want to do some naughty things with you,” he replied.

I just couldn’t take my eyes off him as he walked away. He had a nice ass; his strides were confident and purposeful. It felt like a dream all over again.

“Excuse me, ma’am?” The security guy that was to clear us in called to me.

I realized I had gotten lost just staring at Blade’s ass and thinking of the naughty things he would do to me.

The security guy grabbed our tickets, scrutinized them, and tore the inked part off.

“You may go in, ma’am.”

“Thank you.” I nodded and stepped into the large room.

The stage and the wall projectors were already set, but the movie was yet to start. We had just ten minutes to its running time. I could count the number of people here. I liked it; it would give us the privacy we needed.

My phone buzzed. It was a text from Blade.

Where are you, my darling?

I stood to my feet and waved him over. He was carrying one big carton of popcorn and a soda which I knew we would share.

“Missed me?” Blade moved close as the movie started.

The lights went dim, and everywhere became dark with the only light emanating from the projector screen. It was bright and piercing.

“Yes, of course I did.” I dropped a soft kiss on the side of his jawline, but Blade quickly turned to capture my lips with his.

I moaned, and he chuckled as he pulled away to hand me the popcorn.

The movie was titled Uranus Discovered. It was a science fiction about some scientists who discovered humans could actually inhabit Uranus as opposed to the popular theory that the planet could not harbor life.

The five guys set out on a journey to Uranus, and to their surprise, they revealed other humans there on the planet who’d moved there over a thousand years back.

I loved the storyline. It was woven with ambition, the curiosity, experiments, and there was love.

“You know, I think I have so much in common with Bella Jenkins.” I leaned my head against Blade’s shoulder.

“Really? But she is taller and skinny, you’re not like that,” Blade replied in a low voice.

Bella Jenkins was the lead female character, and she was the first to suggest they all travel to Uranus. She was gorgeous. A fast talker. She had a good sense of humor. She was confident in her own skin and ambitious. Bella was a woman in love.

Blade was unusually quiet. Whenever we were together he usually had so much to say to me, but now…he just had this dark look on his face. I couldn’t help but wonder if he was okay.

“Are you okay, babe? What’s wrong,” I peered into his face.

The dimness of the light couldn’t hide his expression.

“Nothing,” he snapped at me. He seemed irritated.

Damn, how did we go from having a good time to him being all moody in the blink of an eye?

“Are you sure everything’s cool?” I pried.

“I’m cool. Let’s go to Allure. The movie is almost over anyway.”

I knew that Allure was an upscale private club for celebrities. I guessed little ol’ me wasn’t enough for Blade.

“Allure?” My heart sank. “I was really enjoying this movie, and I thought we could grab a bite to eat somewhere quiet, or better yet, we could order from the hotel room,” I suggested.

“Come on, babe, don’t be boring, let’s go have some fun,” Blade insisted.

“I’m not dressed for a fancy place like Allure. You said you wanted to keep us on the down-low, too,” I said.

“It doesn’t matter how you’re dressed. You’re with me, and I show up to the club with lots of girls. It doesn’t mean we are together in a relationship,” he rebutted.

I’d noticed something about Blade in our few days together. He was kind but he also had a powerful will and couldn’t bend easily. He was highly opinionated, stubborn, and did whatever he wanted to do.

I also learned that he didn’t take it kindly whenever he was turned down. I felt terrible about missing the end of the movie, but I couldn’t say no to him.

“Okay, let’s go.” I forced a smile.

“Good.” He grabbed my hand, immediately leading us both out of the theatre.
