Rock Fever by Theresa Hodge (5)

CHAPTER FIVE

KIRA

The atmosphere suddenly became heated with screams, shouts, and smoke screens when the Trash Monkeys hit the stage. The first song to be played was none other than Illicit.

The crowd went wild. Blade stepped forward and took charge of the microphone. The lead guitarist struck a high note, leading the song all the way through.

I was awed by the love the audience was showing them. People sang along and cheered as Blade led the song.

I couldn’t think straight. I didn’t know what to do at this point. I found it odd that I was admiring the guy that many women openly ogled. I had nothing against him but I was the kind of girl who was not easily drawn to popular opinion. I had to agree this time around that Blade was hot.

He was tall and broad-shouldered; even the leather jacket that covered the baggy clothes he wore could not hide his well-muscled physique. He had long black hair that was generally pulled back into a ponytail, which gave him the ultimate bad-boy look.

Fire flickered in his eyes, and passion as he sang with everything in him. Now this was something I loved. Nothing thrilled me more than seeing people do what they liked.

Though the crowd went frenzied with the song that was being rendered, my eyes were on the members of the band. Now was an excellent time to observe them and how they reacted to each other on stage.

A sexy blonde woman in a pair of tight jeans, leather boots, and fitted crop top stood next to Blade. I felt slightly jealous, and this worried me. She was the only female in the band. Her name was Tricia Truitt, and she was the sister to Jasper Truitt, the lead guitarist.

Tricia was the bassist. I didn’t know why I didn’t like her; maybe because she kept throwing lovesick gazes at Blade. All she did was swing her hips seductively to the rhythm of the music and glance Blade’s way with a curve to her red-painted lips.

There was a tall, muscled, freckled redheaded guy, and he played in his boxers and an old tee-shirt. I saw him as someone who was comfortable in his skin. The stage and the fans were his world, and he would not let anybody tell him what to do. He was Starburst, the drummer. He was sexy in his own way, I supposed.

Blade sang with a deep tenor voice, something alternative to bass. But he didn’t sing alone, and an alto voice blended smoothly with his. And it made me wonder why the Asian guy had asked for Steven Radcliff’s removal from the band. The guy was right, he had a solid voice. Though not as fantastic as Blade, but I had no doubt he deserved the given spot in the group.

He was also the backup guitarist.

I could see the way the Trash Monkeys exchanged looks of commonality and I noticed how they grinned and nodded at each other. I felt harmony play in their music; there was team spirit.

“This one is for the broken-hearted…if you ever feel you cannot find love again after someone broke your heart. You’re going to get over it. Always remember you are special and you deserve some loving.” Blade’s deep voice tingled my earlobes.

He was talking to the crowd now. He always did it before the start of any song.

He licked his lips gently then pushed the mic stand closer to where he stood, then looked straight into my eyes.

Damn. I held my breath. Maybe I was imagining things, but it did seem that our eyes had met.

“Love is secure, love is so pure, love ain’t no game, and that’s the way it’s supposed to be. So, don’t cry, don’t weep when you’re falling, just let go…’cos love ain’t that bad after all.”

I felt he was talking straight to me. The crowd seemed to get emotional at this rendition. The song was slow, but with the right mix, the lyrics seemed too real. It portrayed real-life experiences.

It was a sort of advice. It was hope. It was a promise.

I was drawn into his beautiful voice; I let the music wade through me. Slowly, memories of my past relationships came to mind. My eyes were a bit teary as I remembered how one of my exes broke up with me on my birthday. That had been a painful experience for me. Especially when he’d started dating my best friend, Sharon Ross, the next week.

But of course, my ex had come up with this unbelievable, stupid line, which I guessed was supposed to make me feel better, but it made me feel worse because I knew he was lying: It’s not you…it’s me.

“Bastard,” I scoffed and blocked the memories out as the song came to an end.

Trisha moved closer to Blade and planted a soft kiss on his lips which inebriated the crowd with excitement.

“We love you, too!” Some guys screamed from behind me, and I looked up toward the lighted ceiling in slight annoyance.

“I know you do, babies!” Blade yelled.

The crowd went loud again.

“I want to tell the people of New York City how great and awesome they are. You guys are fucking amazing. I am surprised at the turnout because we were already here some weeks back. But you keep showing Trash Monkeys love! And you know what? We got mad love for all of you.”

People cheered and clapped after his comment on the city and the people.

Our eyes met again. His indigo-colored eyes seemed to linger on mine, but I quickly looked away. I knew I was paranoid—I was just drawn to his good looks, and there was nothing more to it.

“Before I go on, I want you guys to know that we do appreciate your efforts. Thanks, guys.” He swirled around and faced the drummer.

From the gentle way he spoke to the crowd, to his smiling face, I had a feeling Blade was a kind-hearted and friendly person. He just seemed to be a part of the crowd, and this was not all about his music this time. He melted right through them.

“Now this song I am about to sing is for the bad girls!” he yelled, signaling the entrance of another song. “Do we have any bad girls here tonight?”

The ladies went wild. Some called out suggestive remarks. I blushed inwardly.

Neon lights splashed on the stage. This was followed by a crack of thunder and artificial lightning. The excitement coursing through the crowd ricocheted through my body.

The stage was a blur now as smoke filled it. I never expected to feel like this. Like something was pulling me up on that stage. My panties became wet watching Blade gyrate around the stage. There was energy surrounding me that I couldn’t contain. I didn’t want to hold it inside.

“Bad girl…do me till I go crazy…bad girl. I know you like what you’re doing…go on…bad girl! Seduce me, caress me…bad girl!”

All the band members were singing this time around.

When the smoke finally cleared from the stage, I found Blade standing bare-chested without his shirt. I swallowed as I stared at his glistening eight-pack abs.

“Bad girls, I want to hear you scream!”

He jumped down from the stage towards the crowd and threw his leather jacket. People struggled and fought over it. The crowd continued to go wild. Blade sauntered easily around the fans as his voice seduced all within his range.

The lead singer, Blade, was skillful with plenty of charisma. His voice touched a part of me that hadn’t been affected in a long while. My eyes followed the sexy way he moved, and I bit back a moan when his hand slid down his muscular thighs. My attention couldn’t help but be drawn to the impressive bulge in his jeans. Yep, the rumor was correct.

I felt nervous as he moved closer to us at the front of the stage. I gulped and trembled the closer he came toward the front row where I was standing.

He reached over the bar that separated us and began to touch people’s hands. I was shivering inside as he came nearer to me.

Our eyes met again; my knees almost gave out. Blade’s gaze was a fiery mist of blue, and sensed I would ignite in flames. I felt like we were the only two people in the room as he continued to sing, “Bad girl…do me until I go crazy…” He warmed my hands with his, our eyes met yet another time, and this time I was sure he was glancing at me.

Blade’s eyes lingered on me even after he released my hand, and he continued to feast his eyes my way as he touched other people. Then he winked, and my juices oozed between my thighs some more. What the hell was wrong with me?

My heart was beating fast, and I thought I was suffocating as I found it hard to breathe… What was happening to me? Damn.
