Adrianna Valdez’s POV

“Adri!”

I turned around to see a very frazzled Olivia rushing towards me. “Would you mind taking care of Trevor for a while until Drake gets home? I have to fetch Drake’s mother from the airport, and I’m really late.”

I nodded, and took Trevor from her arms and stroked his cheek carefully. “Where’s Drake?”

Olivia rolled her eyes as she grabbed her bags. “At the racecourse, most probably getting too distracted with his car.”

I nodded, and she was off. I was alone in the house today. Damien had left, needing to do some work, and I was calling all the florist and cake shops that could cater to Olivia’s grandparent’s demands.

Trevor gurgled, and I smiled softly. I loved children. He clutched my fingers tightly in his arm and kicked his feet happily. I murmured, “You’re gonna be a very spoilt baby aren’t you? You look just like your daddy. You even have his dimples don’t you?”

Trevor just grinned at me, and my heart melted. He was so precious. I stroked a finger against his cheek and jumped when Damien called out. “This must be what it feels like for a husband coming home from work and seeing his family waiting for him.”

I rolled my eyes and scoffed. “What rubbish are you talking about now, Damien?”

I placed Trevor in his bassinet and shot Damien a condescending glance.

Damien grinned heartbreakingly at me and leaned towards me. On instinct, I leaned away from him, and he chuckled. “Feeling nervous, my love?”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “W-what are you doing?” I stammered as Damien leaned towards me.

Toughen up, Adrianna! Don’t let him know he affects you.

“Kissing you.” With that, his lips crashed against mine. His lips were soft and moved against mine with such intensity. He nibbled on my lower lip, making me gasp, and his tongue delved into my mouth. Sparks of desire raced across my skin, and an unknown feeling crept into my heart.

Attraction sizzled between us, and I pulled him closer, desperate for the kiss he is giving.

Never had I been kissed with such intensity before in my life, not even with Jake.

Jacob!

Immediately, a cold bucket of water splashed my mind. How could I forget Jake? What was I doing? I pushed Damien away and hurriedly took a few steps away from him. “You shouldn’t have done that, Damien. I have a boyfriend,” who’s dead six years ago.

“Tell me you felt that.” His blue eyes gazed into mine. He stepped towards me, caging me against the wall.

“Felt what? I have no idea what you’re talking about,” I said coolly with a straight face, trying to calm my pounding heart. No way could I let Damien know how much he had affected me.

A smirk crossed his handsome face. “You’re lying, my love mou. I can almost see what you’re feeling in your expressive blue eyes. Did you know that?”

I was in so much trouble. I scowled at him. “Think what you like,” I said coolly, trying to calm my furiously beating heart.

Damien observed me and, again, without warning kissed me hard. My eyes drifted close, and I pulled him closer to me, his hands drifted to my waist and held me tightly, and my hands wrapped themselves around his neck.

“Damien would be surprised to see you. They’re here— Oh!”

Hearing Olivia’s gasp made me push Damien away.

My eyes widened to see Olivia with two other women gazing at us with shock, confusion, and glee. I seemed to vaguely recognize one of the older women. But I just couldn’t remember her name. I was mortified.

“Mother, what are you doing here?” Damien asked annoyed, his voice was still husky from the kiss we shared.

One of them stepped forward and embraced Damien happily. “Oh, Damien Darling! I’m here to see my unofficial grandson!” The woman turned to me and beamed sunnily. “Hello, dearie! I’m Laura Doukas, Damien’s mother.”

I smiled awkwardly, fidgeting with my dress. “Hello, I’m Adrianna, Trevor’s godmother.”

I reached out to shake her hand, and instead, I was pulled into her arms. “Oh, welcome to the family! You’re even more gorgeous in real life.” I frowned and laughed awkwardly. “I beg your pardon?”

“So when’s the wedding?” I blinked, and Damien groaned loudly. “Mother! Adrianna and I are not even dating. So we will never ever get married.”

A little knife stabbed at my heart, and I was hurt. I slapped myself mentally. What did you expect? Him to want to marry you after a mere kiss? He was a womanizer for goodness sake. He wouldn’t marry you. I shouldn’t even be feeling this way.

Laura glanced at me confused. “But both of you were kissing.”

I flushed and said hastily, “It was nothing but a mistake. Damien and I are just, uh, friends.” Laura glanced at Olivia and frowned. “Oh, but anyway, I’ll still welcome you into the family!”

“Oh wow, that’s— thank you, Mrs. Doukas.” I smiled at Laura.

“No problem, darling. Call me Laura.”

After, Olivia introduced me to the other woman who I learned was Drake’s mother, Kaitlyn. Both Laura and Kaitlyn were amazingly nice, and they sincerely welcomed me into their little family.

Meanwhile, Damien was glowering and sulking in the corner. Sometimes, I could feel his glare penetrating me, but I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of glancing at him. It was my fault for allowing him to get close. Kissing him was definitely a mistake. Even though it was one of the best kisses I ever had.

Distancing myself from him would be the best thing to do. We were two different people, and we couldn’t ever be together. And maybe the unknown feelings I had for Damien would disappear as well. I had no room for him in my heart.

And when Trevor’s birthday passed, I’ll go back to Spain where everything would be back to normal. Hopefully, I’ll be able to forget all about Damien and his stupid kisses.
