The Rejected Wife by Sweta RP (20)

Heather

I’m pregnant.

Those two words echoed in my mind several times as we all stared at Chelsea in shock. Ethan looked really pale, and it seemed as if he was about to faint. Everyone else had their mouths slightly opened.

Suddenly, it hit me. Chelsea was having a baby. My best friend was going to have a baby.

I was the first to react to the announcement.

“Chelsea, oh my gosh, you’re having a baby! I’m so happy for you! Congratulations!” I shrieked as I pulled her in, which was kind of hard because I was carrying Jonah.

She laughed and hugged me back with tears in her eyes. We turned to Ethan, who was staring into space in shock.

“I’m going to be a dad,” he said slowly, like he was talking to a child.

“Congrats, bro!” Jackson slapped him on the back.

I’m going to be a dad!” Ethan yelled.

He fist-pumped the air several times. Then he ran over to Chelsea, picked her up, and spun her around.

“I love you so much,” Ethan said softly once he put her down.

“I love you too.” They sealed their declaration with a passionate kiss while the rest of us clapped for them.

“Holy fu—okay, nobody is going to cuss around Chelsea anymore because Ethan Junior will pick up the bad words, especially if he has my brains,” Ethan said, looking specifically at Jason, since he had the potty mouth of the group.

“First of all, his knowledge isn’t hereditary, ask Heather. Second of all, who do you think is the brains of this relationship?” Chelsea put her hands on her hips.

Uh-oh, she was getting mad. Normal Chelsea had a quick temper, but with her hormones flying, pregnant Chelsea was going to be worse.

Ethan laughed nervously. “Love, I didn’t mean that you aren’t smart. I meant that I remember things faster, you know how I am, nothing against you. If anything, I think our son will get his mother’s witty mind.”

She rolled her eyes and smiled. I scoffed at his quick save. Ethan claimed to have a photographic memory. I didn’t doubt it since I’d seen him memorize things in minutes.

“Nice save, dude.” William chuckled.

Ethan winked and fist-bumped him, making me roll my eyes.

Men, I swear.

“Heather, why are your lips so red and swollen? I just noticed,” Chelsea asked, staring at me with narrowed eyes.

My eyes widened. Crap! I didn’t think they were swollen.

“Um, I-I was biting them,” I stuttered rapidly, saying the first thing to pop into my head.

Nathan snorted. “More like William was.”

I blushed while everyone burst into laughter at my embarrassment. I elbowed Nathan hard and he gasped for breath as I gave him an innocent smile.

“I can’t help it.” William shrugged, a mischievous glint in his eyes. He winked at me and my cheeks turned red again.

“I’m going to make some food,” I said, putting Jonah in his playpen. I could hear their laughter as I left.

When I walked into the kitchen, a paper airplane flew in through the open window. What the heck? I picked it up and noticed some writing on it.

Beware, Heather. You made a mistake. You’ll pay.

I frowned. Okay, seriously? Kelly was all bark and no bite at this point. I looked out the window to see if there was anyone there, but there wasn’t.

“Something wrong?” William walked in, looking at me, concerned. “You know they were just teasing.”

“Yeah, I’m just looking at this note that I got.” I handed him the paper.

He snorted after reading it. “Whoever made this sucks at paper airplanes.”

I laughed. “Very true. Now, what are you doing here?”

He dropped the airplane in the recycle bin and slowly walked toward me with that predatory look in his eyes.

“William.” I gave him a no-we-are-not-doing-this-right-now look.

He pouted. “But it’s not fair. We were interrupted.”

I shrugged and went make some tea. William sighed and wrapped his arms around my waist from behind. I felt a pair of lips on the side of my neck and shrieked in surprise.

“Relax,” he murmured against my neck.

I bit my lip when he suddenly nipped my skin and licked it to stop the burn.

“Seriously, guys? The office round wasn’t enough?” Freddy asked.

I turned around abruptly, taking William with me.

William removed his lips from my neck and glared at Freddy. “Come on, man. What are you doing here?”

Freddy smirked. “I came to see if you guys needed help. But I think you’re good. Right, Hezzie?” He winked at me.

I face-palmed and the two of them snickered.

“I’ll leave you two to it, then. I was never here,” Freddy said as he left the kitchen.

William kissed the top of my head. “I think that’s enough for one night.”

I snorted and raised an eyebrow. “You think?”

William shrugged, looking at me innocently. “What? I was feeling romantic.”

I pushed him toward the living room. “How’s this? Roses are red, violets are blue, I’ve got five fingers, the middle one’s for you. Romantic enough, honey?

His reply was a guffaw.
