I swallowed at the desire that was clearly visible in his dark eyes. Before I could think any further, his lips took mine in a hot, and dare I say, sexy kiss.

I wrapped my arms around his neck and moaned as he nipped my bottom lip. I returned the tease by pulling away slightly and barely brushing my lips against his. He growled and gripped my hips tightly. He put his left hand on the back of my neck and pressed his lips against mine harder. We continued kissing for a couple more minutes before I pulled back to catch my breath.

Once our breathing was back to normal, he smirked. “Ready for the real punishment?”

I stared at him with my mouth slightly open. “That wasn’t the punishment?”

He laughed. “Nope. I just really wanted to do that.”

I nodded slowly.

“Close your mouth, sweetheart, or I’ll have to kiss you senseless again, although I definitely wouldn’t mind.”

I glared at him and smacked his chest. He grinned and went back to the button panel to get the elevator started again. Once we reached the thirty-seventh floor, he turned to look at me with a mischievous look. “Let the fun begin.”

Uh-oh.

I couldn’t help but laugh as I watched Heather grumble adorably as she filed the stack of papers I had on my desk.

“Now, sweetheart, don’t be mean to the papers. They didn’t do anything to you.” I smirked as she shoved another paper into the file cabinet.

She glared at me murderously, and I gave her an innocent smile. Since she was too busy glaring, she ended up dropping the papers. She groaned and bent down to pick them up.

Now it was my turn to groan. I bit my lip as I watched her bend over, her curvy bottom sticking up in the air.

I shifted uncomfortably in my chair as little William started to awaken. Just how many papers did she drop? I leaned over and saw her staring at something in my bookshelf.

“Sweetheart?” I called, slightly concerned.

“Huh, what?” she asked, standing back up. Thank goodness, a few more minutes of her bending over like that and I probably would have pulled her on my desk.

“What were you looking at?” I asked, standing up from my seat and walking toward her.

“Oh, I was just looking at the picture you had,” she said, pointing at the bottom shelf the bookcase.

I followed her finger to a small photo frame I had put there. It contained a picture of my parents and Kelly and me as teenagers. I smiled and picked up the frame. I plopped down on the love seat and pulled Heather onto my lap.

“This was a picture we took at my grandfather’s house in Greece,” I said softly.

“You actually don’t look that different.” She smiled, tracing the outline of my body in the picture.

I chuckled. “No, I would say I’m much more handsome and muscular.”

She rolled her eyes and gave me a look. “Really now?”

I winked and she shook her head in amusement. “Is your mother Greek too? Or is it just your father?”

“She’s Greek too. They fell in love when my father ‘accidentally’ pushed her into a swimming pool. It was love at first sight,” I said, smiling at the story they used to tell us about how they met.

“How did he accidentally push her?” Heather asked, staring at me incredulously.

“My dad said he wasn’t watching where he was going and walked into her. She was standing beside a pool and fell right in. Once she got out, she began yelling at him, but my dad was already whipped and ended up kissing her right on the spot.”

“Wow, he must have been a charmer.” She rested her head on my chest.

I laughed. “He still is, even though he’s fifty-two now.”

“How come I’ve never seen them after our wedding?” she asked.

“Well, they live in Greece now. Once my dad retired, they moved back,” I said, stroking her hair.

She nodded. “You should visit them.”

“You mean we should. I want to show you my grandfather’s home. It’s amazing.” I put the frame down and wrapped my arms around her.

She nodded, and I smiled down at her. I studied her face, trying to figure out how God made such a kind, gorgeous human being. She was honestly one of a kind.

“Thank you,” I whispered, both to God and her.

She tilted her head adorably and asked, “For what?”

I smiled bitterly. “For forgiving this sorry bastard and giving me another chance.”

She shook her head and wrapped her arms around me, snuggling her head into my neck.

For the rest of the afternoon, William and I spent a long time just talking, and it was so nice to be with him without the stress of Kelly or a creepy stalker. The atmosphere was peaceful and extremely comfortable.

“Hey, I’ve got a couple more cheesy lines for you,” William said, wiggling his eyebrows.

I chuckled and lifted my head from his chest. “Do I want to know?”

He smiled and poked my cheek. “I could conquer the world with just one hand, as long as you were holding the other.”

“How cute.” I smiled and patted his cheek. I laid my head back on his chest and traced patterns on his shirt.

“You know, I’m so confused. They told me that angels are only in heaven, but I’ve found one here.” He grinned, pecking the top of my head.

I blushed slightly and played with his fingers. “Any other cheesy lines?”

He was silent for a few moments.

“Recently, I was trying to think of a word that could describe how I feel about you. At first, I thought it was adore. Then I thought it was devotion. But I realized there isn’t a word in the world that could equal the feelings I have for you.”

My head snapped up when I noticed his tone was serious.

Did that mean what I thought it meant?

“Heather, if I had to choose between breathing and loving you, I would use my last breath to say I love you.” He gave me a nervous smile and removed a strand of hair from my face.

My mouth dropped open in shock. I felt tears of joy fill my eyes, and my heart started pounding rapidly. He loved me? He actually loved me! I was practically floating on air.

He stared at me worriedly, and I grabbed his face and crushed his lips onto mine. I put everything I had into that I kiss, and I could tell he did too. When I pulled away for a moment, I looked into his eyes. They were almost glowing from the look of affection he gave me, and he wiped away the tears that had trailed down my cheeks.

I ran a hand through his hair and gripped his chin. “I love you too, William. I love you so much.”

His eyes widened and his face burst into a wide grin. “You do?”

I smiled tearfully and nodded. “I do.”

He pressed his lips to mine again in a passionate kiss and we sealed our declarations happily.
