Breaking the Rules: A Billionaire Romance by Sarah J. Brooks (35)

Chapter Seven

Caroline was supposed to have met Joshua for dinner that evening, and he waited at the cabin for over an hour wondering what was taking her so long. It was becoming clear to him that she wasn’t showing up, and he couldn’t have been more confused. He grew worried about her and decided to go looking for her to make sure she was alright. He found her in her own cabin, and he walked up to her confused. Had she forgotten their date? He found that hard to believe. She barely looked up at him as he made his way up to her porch where she was sitting.

“Caroline, did you forget dinner? I thought we were doing that together.”

“Well, you were wrong about that.”

Her tone startled him. She was definitely pissed; he just had no idea why. He couldn’t imagine why she was suddenly so cold to him. They were always red hot together.

“What’s wrong?”

When she looked up at him, she was glaring. Taken back, he was growing more confused by the minute. He wasn’t sure what to say to her, so he remained quiet. She would eventually tell him what was up, especially if she meant to get rid of him.

Finally, she said, “How could you poison the ocean? Then you come here, and you fool everyone into thinking you’re a good man when really you’re nothing but a fake.”

He was speechless, which probably made him look guilty, but he was just thrown off by her comment. How did she know that? Had Ben finally told her? He couldn’t imagine Ben doing something like that, but how else did she know?

“What are you talking about?”

“I was practically standing behind you when you were talking to Kyle. I heard everything. You both are evil.”

“Caroline, you’re wrong. I had nothing to do with that; you don’t understand.”

“Isn’t that just convenient. How could an owner not know that something like that was going on at his own company? Are you joking right now?”

“Caroline, please, you have to trust me that I had no idea. I had stepped away from the company at the time to pursue other things. There were other people in charge.”

“Just because you are away from the company doesn’t mean you don’t know what’s going on.”

He was astounded by what he was hearing. She was saying exactly the same things he had said before he went to Africa. What’s worse was that she didn’t believe him.

“Look, I know how it sounds, but it’s not true. Kyle didn’t know either, and we are trying to get to the bottom of it. I have to go to court, yes, but I’m defending myself, and the prosecutor has no proof that I did any of this. Please, Caroline, you know me. I would never do this.”

“It’s disgusting, and I just don’t believe that you had no idea.”

“Caroline, I have spent my whole life helping people. I would never do something like that. I came here to do good, not to trick people. Please, you know me.”

“No, I think you came here to avoid a media storm or to help your precious reputation.”

“I came here so that the media could see who I really am. I didn’t do this, the person you know here, that’s who I am. Being here has made me so happy.”

She searched his eyes, and he hoped that she would just believe him, trust that he had nothing to do with the waste disposing.

“Come back to the cabin, please.”

“Don’t you dare lie to me?”

Caroline, I would never. You have to trust me.”

She fell into his arms, and he breathed a sigh of relief. She kissed him roughly, and he grew excited with her in his arms. He began to undress her quickly. She didn’t share the cabin alone, and he had no idea where the other girls were, but he didn’t really care.

“Joshua, I don’t think this is a good idea.”

“We’ll be quiet; please, I need you.”

They quickly undressed each other, and he lay her down on the grass, spreading her legs wide. He liked looking at her pink pussy, it drove him insane with lust. Her opening was always wet and ready for him. He slid a finger inside her and rocked her gently. She was holding back her cries. He got his finger very wet from her pussy and put it in his mouth. He slid it back inside of her, and she couldn't hold back as she cried out in pleasure. He continued finger fucking her repeatedly. He loved looking at her in the throes of passion. He took his finger out and climbed on top of her, pushing his cock inside. He pumped inside her hard, and she fought back the moans she so desperately wanted to scream out. He had her alright, and he made her come over and over again as he fucked her with an intensity she would not soon forget. He finally spilled into her, and they lay together in the grass, spent. He rolled over to her and kissed her deeply on the mouth.

“I’m crazy about you, Caroline, I just want you to know that.”

She smiled at him. “I feel the same way.”

That night, he went back to his own cabin, leaving her behind. He wanted her to be with him, but she declined, saying she needed to get some rest. When he arrived home, he realized he was also really tired and fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.

When he awoke the next morning, Caroline was there sitting on the end of his bed, holding cups of coffee in her hand. He sat up confused but pleased to find her there.

“Hi, beautiful. Thanks for bringing me coffee.”

“I need to talk to you, Joshua.”

Her tone had him worried. “What’s up?”

“I’m going home today.”

He was wide awake now. “What are you talking about?”

“I should have told you I was planning to leave, but I just wanted to enjoy our time together. I’ve been here for a while now, and I need to return to work. My sister told me the orders are getting out of hand.”

“I don’t know what I will do without you here.”

She smiled, “You will just have to focus on that hospital now. I hope you understand that I have to leave now.”

Joshua refused to let her see that he was crushed by her leaving. He felt like her departure was cold and too sudden.

“Sure, I do. I hope things go well with your orders.”

She looked sad as she leaned over to kiss him. “Take care, Joshua.”

Joshua watched her walk out of the cabin and out of this life. His heart lurched in his throat; he had to get her back.
