Biker Ruined (The Lost Souls MC Series Book 8) by Ellie R Hunter (26)

Dex

I don’t need to open my eyes to see the fuck up I made last night. I can still smell her perfume on the bed sheets. I stretch my leg out and I’m alone in the bed.

Lifting my head, I look around and she’s standing by the window, smoking. She looks like she’s been awake for a while and she’s dressed.

“I was wondering when you were going to wake up,” she grumbles and inhales deeply on the cigarette.

Kicking the sheets off, I get up under her watchful eye. I don’t regret last night but it shouldn’t have happened.

It doesn’t take long to get dressed and she follows me down to the kitchen without saying a word. She’s tense and she starts searching through the cupboards.

“There’s nothing to eat,” she snaps like it’s my fucking job to feed her.

“Take her into town, get some food and get her cooking. I’m starving.”

Sparky throws a bunch of notes on the counter top and Melissa looks like she’s going to blow. Sparky walks out before I can argue, I can’t be assed with driving into town.

“Are we going on your bike?” she asks.

“No.”

I could explain it would be easier to take the car to bring the groceries back, but I don’t.

The drive is quiet, and in the store, she’s painfully quiet.

She knows what she wants but she’s only shopping for her and her brother. I head back and grab a basket and pick up packs of bacon and two dozen eggs.

I load her bags onto the back seat and she ignores me still. Halfway back to the club, her silence is unnerving.

“Why are you so quiet?” I ask her.

“You don’t like it when I talk, nor when I don’t bother. It will be for the best when my brother and I go home.”

The roadside becomes a picture of art she can’t take her eyes away from and she continues to avoid looking at me.

“For the best,” I agree.

Not another word is spoken between us and it’s awkward. I slow down to drive through the gates to the clubhouse and have to stop abruptly as Pope is driving out in the van. He offers a small nod and drives off.

Melissa leaves me to lumber the groceries inside and after dumping them on the table in the kitchen, I plan on leaving her to it, until she hands me the eggs.

“Kyle prefers scrambled, after everything you’ve put him through, it’s the least you can do.”

Part of me wants to tell her where to stick the eggs, but the other part, takes them to keep her happy.

Surprise, surprise, she doesn’t say a word whilst we’re cooking up a storm, not until Kyle walks in and plonks down on a chair at the table. He looks like he could do with another six hours sleep. Scotty hangs back out of his sight, I don’t think Kyle would know he’s being monitored.

“I’m making you breakfast,” Melissa huffs.

I serve the eggs onto the two waiting plates she’s laid out and grab one from the cupboard for myself. I sit at the table with Kyle when she doesn’t give me another job to do and Kyle raises his eyebrow at me.

I haven’t got a fucking clue what he’s trying to ask me. He twists on his chair and turns to Melissa.

“What’s up with you?” he asks her.

“Nothing, everything, this place. Do I need to go on?”

“You can go home, Lissa. You don’t have to stay because of me. I don’t need looking after.”

She stills for a moment and then slams the frying pan in the sink. She grabs two plates of breakfast and near enough shoves them at us. I’m about to dig in when she storms out.

“Hey, I haven’t finished eating,” I shout, not that I’ve started.

“Like I care,” she yells back.

Cas chooses right now to show up and walk in for a coffee.

“Where’s she running off to?” he wants to know.

The fuck if I know, so I shrug my shoulder.

“Considering you’re meant to be watching her, don’t you think you should find out?”

I look at my food, knowing damn well it won’t be here when I get back. Shoving the plate away, I push out of my chair and before I’ve left the room Cas is snatching my food for himself.

Walking out into the sunshine, I have to squint my eyes to look for her. She’s sat on the bench by the main house and is smoking again.

“You wanted food, we got food, why are you out here?”

“I lost my appetite.”

I sigh and sit beside her. “Tell me what’s wrong with you.”

She turns to me and she’s wearing a sad smile. It takes me back, I haven’t seen this look on her before.

“Last night proved to me how foolish and easy I am. You admitted you used me, you talk to me like I’m beneath you, yet I still offered you my body and you took it because I have nice tits and a fine ass.”

“I’m…”

“No,” she cuts me off, “Don’t say a word, there’s nothing you can say that will make me feel less of a whore for you.”

“You are not a whore,” I grind out.

“Then why do you treat me like one? From now on, stay the hell away from me.”

She stands up to leave but I’m not letting her run off again. I pull her back down and keep hold of her hand.

“Why are you talking shit for?” I growl.

“The truth never sounds good, does it?”

“Not all the time, no. I’m not gonna let you feel like a whore, that was never my intention.”

“It doesn’t matter if it was or not, your actions still had the same result.”

Her wide eyes capture me and they are filled with sadness.

“I’m sorry, but you should know that when we were together I was with you because I couldn’t help myself. From now on, I’ll leave you alone and treat you like you deserve.”

“Thank you,” she half smiles and this time, I let her walk away when she goes to leave.

I pull out a cigarette and light it quickly, hopefully I can catch a quick smoke before Cas wants me back watching Melissa. She needs to be far away from me, and I need to be where she’s not. I know we’re not anything but I didn’t trust myself not to fall between her legs. Hearing how I’ve made her feel, I now trust myself.
