Then We Happened (Happened Series Book 2) by Sandi Lynn (32)

Cameron

Entering through the front door of Sierra’s house, I set my bag down and looked around. It felt good to be back.

“Cameron?” Rosa spoke as she walked down the stairs.

“Hi, Rosa.” I smiled. “I need your help.”

“Anything for you. Come into the kitchen and I’ll make you lunch. What’s up with the bag?”

“I’m moving back in,” I said as I followed her into the kitchen.

She turned and looked at me.

“So you and Sierra worked things out? Because as of this morning, you were history to her.”

“I know.” I sighed. “And no, we didn’t work things out. I’m moving into the guest house whether she likes it or not. I need to win her back. I love her.”

“You’re not doing this because of the baby, are you?” she asked.

“No. The baby is an added bonus.” I smiled. “I’ve had time to think about everything and what I did was not cool. I shouldn’t have walked out on her the way I did.”

She walked over to me and placed her hand on my cheek.

“Sometimes we let our anger get the best of us, but it’s when we realize our mistakes in taking the action we did, we’ve matured.”

“Thanks, Rosa. I have a chance, right?”

“You do. But, it’s going to be difficult to get back into her life. You know how stubborn she is. And her hormones.” She shook her head. “All over the place right now.”

“I know and I’m prepared to do whatever it takes and I can handle the abuse she’ll throw my way.”

“Well, I’m here to help you in any way possible.” She smiled as she patted my cheek and then continued making my sandwich. “You sit and eat. I’ll go make sure the guest house is ready for you to move into.”

As soon as I finished my sandwich, I grabbed my suitcase from the foyer and took it out to the guest house. Now that Patina was complete, the only job I had going on was Sweetberry’s. Which was good since it was going to take every man I had to get it built again and opened.

The first thing I did was stop by Danny’s Taco Truck and bought a couple of Sierra’s favorite tacos. James met me there and took them back to her office and handed them off to Sasha. Everyone was in on what my plans were: Kirsty, James, Sasha, and Rosa. They were ready to do whatever it took for me to get Sierra back.

I walked into my office and noticed a white bag sitting on my desk. The smell of Danny’s Tacos radiated throughout the space.

“Sasha!” I yelled from my desk.

“Yes?” She popped her head through the door.

“Where did these tacos come from?” I asked as I took them out of the bag.

“I have no clue.”

“What do you mean you have no clue? Who brought these to my office?”

“I don’t know. Someone must have dropped the bag off when I was in the bathroom.”

“It was probably James,” I spoke. “He must have gone there for lunch and brought some back for me.”

“I wish I could say for sure.” She smiled.

“Why are you smiling?” I narrowed my eye at her.

“No reason. I know how much you love them and it was sweet of whoever bought them for you. Is that all? I have work to do?”

“Yes. That’s all.” I took a seat and devoured the tacos. I was starving and I prayed I kept them down.

Everyone at work was a handful. Kirsty told me it was because I was hormonal and it was me, not my employees. I left the office around six o’clock and when I climbed into the back of the car, I thanked James for the tacos.

“What tacos?” he asked.

“Danny’s Tacos. You left them on my desk.”

“No I didn’t,” he replied. “I didn’t go to Danny’s Tacos today.”

“Whatever. I’m too tired to deal with this taco situation anymore.”

He snickered and drove me home. I walked into the house, set my briefcase down in the foyer, kicked off my shoes, and went into the kitchen for a bottle of water.

“What the—” I blurted out when I saw Cameron sitting at the table eating whatever it was Rosa made.

“Good evening, Senorita.” Rosa smiled at me. “Sit down and I’ll serve your dinner.”

“What are you doing here?” I asked as I glared at Cameron.

“Eating dinner. How was your day?” He smiled.

“Why are you eating here? If you think you came over to talk to me, you shouldn’t have bothered because I’m not talking.”

He shrugged. “That’s fine.”

“Sit down, Sierra,” Rosa spoke.

“No. I’m not hungry.”

I walked over to the refrigerator and pulled out a bottle of water.

“I sure hope you’re staying off the tequila,” Cameron spoke.

I inhaled a long, sharp breath.

“Of course I am. Do you think I’m stupid?” I snapped.

“You need to eat, babe. You’re eating for two now.”

I slammed down the bottle of water onto the counter.

“I’m not your babe.” I pointed my finger at him.

“You’ll always be my babe.” He grinned.

“You need to leave, Cam. I mean it. Leave now!”

“I’m done anyway.”

He got up from the table, took his dish to the sink, and kissed Rosa on the cheek.

“Thank you for a great dinner. As always, it was amazing.”

“Thank you, Builder Boy,” Rosa spoke as she placed her hand on his cheek.

I could feel my blood pressure rising as I clenched my fist. He walked out the patio door and started heading towards the guest house. What the fuck was he doing?

“Excuse me!” I ran after him. “Where do you think you’re going?”

He stopped and turned to me.

“To the guest house.” He pointed.

“I told you to leave.”

“And I am. I’m going home.” The corners of his mouth curved up into a smile.

“What do you mean?!” I shouted.

“I’ve moved back, and since I knew there was no way in hell you’d let me back into the bedroom, I’m staying in the guest house.”

“The hell you are! This is my house and I did not okay this!”

“It may be your house,” he began walking towards me, “but that,” he put his finger on my belly, “is my baby in there and I’m sticking around. So get used to it,” he spoke as he turned and went into the guest house and shut the door.

I stood there, frozen, unable to move at the audacity of that man. My ass he was staying here. I pounded on the door until he opened it.

“Yes, Sierra.”

I pushed him out of the way and stormed into the bedroom, threw his suitcase on the bed, and as I went to open the closet to empty it, a sick feeling swept over me. Placing my hand over my mouth, I ran to the bathroom.

“Are you okay?” Cameron asked as he leaned against the doorway with his arms folded.

“Do I look like I’m okay?” I hissed.

“Can I get you a glass of water or something?”

“NO! I want nothing from you!” I vomited again.

He walked over to me and grabbed my hair and held it back. As much as I wanted to rip it out of his hands, I didn’t because I didn’t want to get vomit in it. From now on, as long as this fucking morning sickness lasted, my hair would stay up.

“How often does this happen?” he asked.

“Morning, noon, and night.” I wiped my mouth with a tissue.

As I began to get up from the floor, Cameron let go of my hair. I was exhausted. Being pregnant sucked and this was only the beginning. I walked into the bedroom, took one look at his suitcase that I threw on the bed, put my hand up, and walked away. I didn’t have the strength to deal with this tonight. I’d kick him out tomorrow.

“Don’t get too comfortable, Cole. You’re not staying,” I spoke as I walked out of the guest house.

“Actually, I am. It doesn’t have to be like this, princess,” he shouted.

I stopped and turned to him. “Oh, but it does.”
