Then We Happened (Happened Series Book 2) by Sandi Lynn (19)

Sierra

I went upstairs to Clive and Delia’s bedroom only to find my mother with her arms crossed, staring out the window. Clive wasn’t there and I wondered if he’d even come up to check on her.

“Mom,” I softly spoke as I opened the door.

“Don’t you need to go home and get ready for a wedding?”

“I have a little time.” I walked into the room, shutting the door behind me. “What’s going on?”

“If you don’t mind, Sierra, I would like to be left alone. You’ve never shown any interest in having a conversation with me before, so please, just go home.”

I rolled my eyes.

“Something’s going on with you and I suspect it’s more than Clive.”

“Nothing is going on. I’m just tired. I will ask you one last time to please leave.”

“Fine. But if you want to talk, you know my number. Try to have a good day.” I turned around and walked out of the bedroom.

I found Cameron in the living room talking to Clive when I went downstairs.

“Did you even bother to try and talk to her?” I asked him.

“Yes, and she told me to get out. You know there’s no reasoning or talking to her when she’s like that.”

“Come on, Cam. We have to go.”

He said goodbye to Clive and I yelled up the stairs to Ava. She came running down and gave us both a hug.

“Good luck with your audition. Keep me posted.” I smiled.

“I will. I’m so excited, Sierra.”

Cam and I left, and as we were headed home, I told him that he’d better call Rosa and tell her about his family coming in for a visit.

“Why can’t you tell her?” he asked.

“It’s your family, and besides, she won’t yell at you. You know how she gets when she has to do extra work.”

“Fine. I’ll call her right now.”

Cameron picked up his phone and dialed her number. He spoke to her in his sweet voice and I silently laughed to myself, waiting for Rosa to go off on him. But she didn’t. She just said okay and then politely ended the call.

“See.” He smiled at me. “She was perfectly fine with it.”

A few moments later, my phone dinged and a text message from Rosa came through.

Shit.

“Senorita, since there will be four extra people in the house for a week and extra beds to make and sheets to change, I demand to be paid more.”

Damn her. I should have seen this coming. Before I could respond, she started blowing up my phone.

“That’s extra food to prepare. Extra laundry. Extra bathrooms to be cleaned on the daily and extra mess to clean up.”

“Extra grocery shopping which means more food and more heavy bags to carry into the house.”

“The floors will have to be washed more since four more people will be walking on them.”

Jesus, she acted as if they were moving in.

“Fine. You’ll get a large bonus. Please stop texting me.”

“Who are you texting?” Cameron asked.

“Ava. She’s just really excited about New York,” I lied.

I didn’t want to tell him that Rosa was bitching about his family coming, even though the thought of spending a week with Luanne did stress me out.

As soon as we got home, both of us hopped into the shower and dressed for the wedding. After doing my hair and makeup, I walked into my closet and pulled out a long red Valentino dress that still had the tag on it.

“Finally going to wear that, eh?” Cam smiled as he pulled out his tuxedo.

“Yes. I just didn’t have opportunity to wear it yet. But now I do.”

“Tonight’s the big night for James and Kirsty,” he spoke as he slipped his hot ass into his pants.

“I know. I can’t wait to hear from her.”

“Too bad we couldn’t be there instead of going to this wedding.” Cameron sighed.

I knew going tonight was bothering him.

“Listen, babe. I know you think it’s going to be awkward, but don’t let it be. Don was just—”

“Just one of the guys you slept with. I know.”

Hearing him say that cut through my soul.

“I was in a bad place. You know that.”

“I know, Sierra. What you did before we met is none of my business.”

I walked over to him and wrapped my arms around his waist.

“You saved me from that bad place. When no one else could, you did. I love you, Cameron Cole, and the past is the past. None of those men ever mattered to me.”

“I know, baby.” He lightly kissed my forehead. “I love you too.”

The car service finally arrived and Cameron and I climbed into the back seat. Harold was our driver, whom I requested. He was someone I used when James had the day or night off.

“Good evening, Miss Adams.” He nodded.

“Good evening, Harold. How are you?”

“Very good. And yourself?”

“Life is great, Harold.” I smiled.

“Good to hear. You’re off to the Bel-Air Hotel?”

“We are.”

The last time Harold drove me, I was in a drunken state, spilling all my sorrows to him. It was not one of my finest moments. We arrived at the hotel and were escorted out to the garden where the ceremony was taking place. When Cameron and I took our seats, I felt someone take hold of my arm.

“Don, what are you doing?”

“I need to talk to you, Sierra.”

“Now? You’re getting married in a few minutes.”

“Please. It’s important.”

I heard a long sigh come from Cameron as I looked at him and shrugged my shoulders and I followed Don to a secluded area.

“By the way, you look lovely. Beautiful as ever,” he spoke.

“Thanks. What did you want to talk about?”

“I slept with a stripper last night. I just had to come clean to you. I swear it’s my last time.”

Rolling my eyes, I took hold of his hand. I could have cared less. If his bride was fucking another man last night, then Don should have the right too.

“It’s okay, Don. Consider it your last hoorah. It seems to be the thing nowadays.”

He let out a long, deep breath.

“Okay. Thanks, Sierra. I just needed to tell you after our talk yesterday. I felt like it was weighing on me. I swear it was my last time. I love Milania. I really do. I didn’t at first, but she grew on me. She’s sweet, kind, beautiful, and one hundred percent faithful.”

I wanted to burst into laughter. Obviously, he didn’t know her at all.

“Okay.” I placed my hand on his chest. Can I go back to my seat now?”

“Yeah. Of course. I have to go stand at the altar.”

When I got back to my seat, Cam glared at me.

“What did he want?” he asked.

“He slept with a stripper last night and felt the need to tell me.”

“Why?” he asked in an irritated tone.

“How the hell do I know?”

“Why are these two even getting married? For fuck sake, they cheat on each other.”

“I don’t have a clue. Want to take bets on how long this will last?” I grinned.

“You’re on. I say two years,” Cameron spoke.

“You’re kind, giving them that long. I say less than a year.”

We shook hands just as the ceremony began.
