Then We Happened (Happened Series Book 2) by Sandi Lynn (16)

I had just gotten out of the pool when Sierra arrived home from dinner with Delia and stepped out onto the patio.

“Hey, babe.” I walked over and gave her a kiss.

“Isn’t it a little late for a swim?” she asked.

“No better time than under the moonlight and the stars.” I grinned as I wrapped my arms around her. “Do I dare ask how dinner was?”

She let out a long sigh. “At first, it was the usual Delia making her remarks, but then, it actually turned out to be a pleasant evening.”

“Huh?” I arched my brow. “Did you just say dinner with Delia was pleasant?”

“I know, right? She knows about Clive’s affair.”

“Did you tell her?” I asked as I wrapped the towel around my waist.

Sierra walked away from me and took a seat in the lounge chair.

“No. I didn’t have to. She told me. And the thing is, she’s not doing anything about it yet.”

“What do you mean?” I took the lounge chair next to her.

“She said she’ll file for divorce when the time is right. And if I know Delia, she’s waiting for the perfect opportunity to spring it on him. She has a plan.” She slowly nodded her head.

“Damn. I’d hate to be on the receiving end of that.” I chuckled. “You look tired, babe.”

“I am. It’s been a long day.”

I stood up from the lounge chair, swooped Sierra in my arms, and carried her upstairs to the bedroom.

“Does this mean no sex tonight?” I asked.

“No. We can have sex. I’ll just need you to do all the work.”

“I think I can handle that.” I smiled as I laid her down on the bed.

I had been thinking a lot lately about that office space I wanted to rent. Now that jobs were accumulating, I needed a space to store files and do paperwork. Sierra still tried to convince me that I should turn the guest house into an office space, but I didn’t think that was a good idea. I wanted to do this on my own. The only problem I was facing was the monthly rent. Even though I had pretty good money coming in right now, what if I didn’t get another job for a while? I tossed and turned all night about it and still didn’t have an answer.

The next morning, after Sierra and I showered together, I went downstairs to have breakfast.

“Good morning, Builder Boy.” Rosa smiled as she walked over to the coffee pot and poured me a cup of coffee.

“Good morning, Rosa. How are you this fine morning?”

“I’m good. How did Sierra’s dinner go with Delia last night?”

I took a sip of my coffee after she handed it to me.

“Good. She actually said it was pleasant.” I smiled.

“Did Hell freeze over or something?”

I chuckled. “You’ll have to ask her.”

“Ask me what?” Sierra asked as she strolled her beautiful self into the kitchen.

“Dinner with Delia last night was pleasant? Are you feeling okay, Senorita?” Rosa asked as she placed her hand on Sierra’s forehead.

“I’m feeling fine. We had our moments. You know, Delia style. But overall, it was pleasant.”

“Well, this calls for a celebratory breakfast. How about some eggs benedict?” Rosa spoke.

“Oh!” Kirsty exclaimed as she walked into the kitchen. “That sounds delicious. I’m starving.”

James followed behind, agreed, and the four of us took a seat at the table.

“You were restless last night,” Sierra spoke as she reached over and stroked my cheek.

“Sorry if I kept you up. I’ve just been going back and forth about that office space.” I took hold of her hand and pressed my lips against it.

“I think you should just go for it,” Kirsty spoke.

“If it were that simple. I just feel like I need a few more jobs lined up.”

“They’ll come, baby,” Sierra spoke.

“It’s not a guarantee and I still think the price of that space is something I can’t really afford right now.”

“Just take your time and everything will work out.” Sierra smiled as she placed her hand on my thigh.

After I finished the delicious eggs benedict that Rosa prepared, I kissed Sierra goodbye and headed to work.

Sierra

“Poor guy. He’s so conflicted,” James spoke.

“Well, he doesn’t have to be. He’ll be fine. If he wants that office space, then he’ll have it.”

“Sierra!” Kirsty exclaimed.

I picked up my phone from the table and dialed Ron Sturgis’s number.

“Shush,” I told her.

“Ron Sturgis,” he answered.

“Hello Ron, my name is Sierra Adams from Adams Advertising. How are you this morning?”

“I’m good. What can I do for you?”

“A friend of mine, Cameron Cole, is interested in renting an office space from you.”

“Ah yes, I remember Cameron. Nice guy.”

“Yes. He is. Anyway, the office space you showed him, is it still available?”

“Yes. It is.”

“I need you to do me a favor. Call him up today and tell him that the owner of the building lowered the rent to thirty-five hundred a month if he signed for a year. I will write a check for the entire amount of the difference. But this needs to stay between me and you.”

“Umm. Sure. I guess I can do that.”

All the while I was talking to Ron, James sat across from me, shaking his head, and Kirsty was mouthing obscenities and pointing at me.

“You guess or you will? By the way, how is business for you? Perhaps a little free advertising for your company would help.”

“That would be nice, Miss Adams. Things have been a little slow lately.”

“Excellent. Consider it done. I’ll have my staff put something together and send it over to you. In the meantime, you can call Cameron and tell him about this amazing news of lowered rent.”

“I’ll call him within the hour.”

“Thank you, Ron. I’ll be in touch soon.”

“Oh my God!” Kirsty shouted. “Are you never going to learn?”

“Relax, buttercup. It’s no big deal. Cameron will get his office space and he’ll be happy and things will work out. And you need to stop shaking your head!” I voiced loudly as I pointed to James.

Rosa began to speak and I instantly stopped her.

“Say one word, Rosa, and you’re fired.”

She rolled her eyes as she walked out of the kitchen, mumbling in Spanish.

Cameron

I was at Luxe checking on how things were progressing and going over some details when my phone rang.

“Cameron Cole,” I answered.

“Cameron, it’s Ron Sturgis. How are you, my friend?”

“I’m good, Ron. How are you?”

“Good. Good. Listen, I wanted to let you know that if you’re still interested in that office space, the owner lowered the rent to thirty-five hundred a month. That’s two thousand dollars off.”

“Wow. Seriously? Why would he do that?”

“He wants the space rented. It’s the only office left in the building.”

My mind was reeling with excitement. I couldn’t believe it.

“That sounds great, Ron. I’ll take it.”

“Excellent. I’ll have the lease papers drawn up and call you when they’re ready to be signed. It should only take a couple of days.”

“Thank you. I can’t believe this.”

“Good things happen to good people, Cameron. I’ll be in touch soon.”

After ending the call, I immediately dialed Sierra. I couldn’t wait to tell her the good news.

“Hello, my gorgeous boyfriend.”

“Hello, my sexy girlfriend. You are never going to believe what just happened.”

“What?”

“That realtor called me and the owner of that office space I was looking at lowered the rent by two thousand dollars. So I took it.”

“Oh my God, baby. That’s awesome. I’m so happy for you.”

“Thanks. We’re going out for a celebratory dinner tonight. Ask James and Kirsty to come along. My treat.”

“I will let them know. I love you, Cam.”

“I love you too, babe. I’ll talk to you later.”

After finishing up at Luxe, I hopped into my truck and headed to Delia’s house to tell Paolo the good news.
