Then We Happened (Happened Series Book 2) by Sandi Lynn (38)

Sierra

I couldn’t believe Cam was here. I had a week to think about everything and get in touch with myself and my life. It was peaceful here and the perfect place to think.

“Can I ask you something?” Cam spoke.

“Sure.” I glanced over at him.

“This place reminds me of my home in North Carolina. The place that you hated so much when you were there.”

“I didn’t hate it. When you pulled up to your house that first time we went, a sick feeling fell over me because it reminded me of here and some of the bad memories. Trust me, I’d take the city life any day over this. But it’s places like here where you truly can find peace. There are some things I want to tell you,” I spoke.

“Okay. Then let’s get talking about us.” A small smile graced his lips.

“That night last week when I got home late, it was because I had an appointment with Dr. Robbins.”

“Your OB doctor?” he asked.

“No. She’s a therapist. I saw her for a while right after my dad died and Ryan left. I told her all about you and what I’d done, how you reacted and how I instantly built up a wall again. She made me realize a lot of things, especially where you’re concerned. I always knew it in the back of my mind, but hearing her tell me it really stuck. She said in order to heal from these abandonment issues I have, I need to forgive the people who hurt me. So I started with Ryan.”

“You saw him?” he asked.

“Yes. After I left the doctor’s office, I called him up and asked him to meet with me at the Santa Monica pier.”

“And how did that go?”

I told Cameron everything I had found out and the look on his face was shock.

“I don’t know what to say,” he spoke. “I mean, I guess he was just looking out for you at that time.”

“Yeah, I guess he was. I told him that I forgave him for all the pain and everything he caused me. Then, the next morning, I came up here and I forgave my dad for dying and leaving me to live a life without him.”

Cameron reached over and grabbed hold of my hand. Our eyes locked onto each other’s and instantly, all the fears I had and the anger were gone.

“I’m sorry for what I did,” I spoke. “I just wanted things to work out for you so badly. I wanted you to be happy so you wouldn’t leave me. But you left anyway.”

“Come here.” He pulled me onto his lap.

“I left but never fully left. I just needed some time because I have issues too. I wanted to prove to you that I could do it on my own. I was never very good at asking people for help. My family can attest to that. You are this beautiful and successful woman, Sierra Adams. I didn’t want the day to come where you threw it in my face that you helped me.”

“I would never do that.”

The corners of his mouth curved up into a small smile. “Somehow, I think you would.”

“I promise that I will never do anything behind your back again. Total honesty and truth from now on. I’ve done a lot of soul searching while I’ve been up here and I finally have clarity about my life and relationships.”

“If we’re going to make us work, we have to be open with each other about everything. No more secrets.” His lips softly pressed against mine.

“I promise no more secrets.”

“So does this mean you’ll take me back?” he asked as his lips continued kissing mine.

“Yes. Does this mean you’ll take me back as well?”

“I never let go of you, babe, and I’m never going to.”

He placed his hand on my belly. “We’re having a baby.” He grinned.

“Yeah. We are. I’m still trying to get used to the idea. I won’t lie and tell you that I’m not scared, because I am.”

“You’re going to make a great mom, babe. She or he will be the best designer-dressed kid in L.A.”

“True.” I smiled.

“You have no idea how happy I am that we’re having a child.” He pushed a strand of my hair behind my ear. “I think we need to go celebrate and make up for lost time.”

“That’s a great idea.”

I climbed off his lap and he swooped me up and carried me into the house.

“I won’t be able to do this soon.” He smirked. “You’ll be way too heavy.”

“Only an extra six or seven pounds.”

“Could be nine or ten.” He carried me up the stairs.

“Watch your mouth, Cole.” I put my hand over his mouth.

He gave me a wink as he laid me down on the bed where we stayed the rest of the day.
