Then We Happened (Happened Series Book 2) by Sandi Lynn (6)

Chapter Six

Sierra

When I arrived home, I stepped outside in the back and found Cameron swimming some laps in the pool. He was so strong and his body rocked my world.

“I’m back.” I smiled.

“Hey. Did you get everything done you needed to?” He swam over to the edge and I handed him a towel.

“I sure did.”

He climbed out of the pool and dried himself off, but not before giving me a kiss.

“I missed you.” He grinned.

“I missed you too.”

“I’m going to take a shower. Kirsty and James are on their way over.”

“I’ll go up with you. I need to change clothes and touch up my makeup.”

He swooped me up and carried me into the house.

“I think you look gorgeous the way you are, Miss Adams.”

While Cameron was in the shower, I changed into my floral print sundress. After touching up my makeup and running a brush through my long blonde hair, I gave Cam a kiss on his cheek before walking out of the bathroom and heading downstairs. I took in a deep breath at the thought of having to tell Delia who Cameron really was. This day had to be perfect for Ava, my sweet sister who was sixteen years old already. Reaching for the bottle of tequila from the bar, I opened it and poured some into a shot glass. Just as I was about to let it slide down my throat, the front door opened.

“Drinking already?” Kirsty sneered.

“Go away. You know I need at least one, two, or maybe three shots before I walk into the lion’s den.”

“Hello, Sierra.” James smiled.

“Hello, James.” I threw back my shot.

“So, tell me why you needed to know who the owner of that club was,” Kirsty spoke.

“Shh.” I brought my finger to my lips. “I don’t want Cameron to know anything about that.”

“Why?” she asked as she cocked her head.

“Hey, guys. Good to see you.” Cameron walked into the room. “Sierra, you are never going to believe who I just got off the phone with.”

“Who?”

“The owner of that nightclub. He told me I got the job.” His grin widened.

James and Kirsty both glared at me.

“Oh my God, Cam. I’m so happy for you. Congratulations.” I walked over and gave him a tight hug.

“Thanks. If you’ll excuse me for a moment, I’m going to call Paolo and tell him the good news.”

“That’s fine. Take your time.” I smiled.

As soon as he left the room, Kirsty walked over to the bar and took the bottle of tequila and glass out of my hand.

“What did you do?” she asked through gritted teeth.

“Nothing.” I tried to take the glass from her, but she wasn’t giving it up.

“Did you get Cam that job?”

“Maybe. I met with Ashton this morning. We had a nice chat and he felt Cameron was the right fit.”

James stood there, shaking his head at me.

“What?”

“Cam would be pissed if he found out,” he spoke.

“Well, he won’t. Will he?” I glared at them both.

I forcefully grabbed the bottle from the clutches of Kirsty and took a large sip.

“Sierra, why are you drinking from the bottle?” Cam asked as he walked back into the room, shaking his head.

“It’s Kirsty’s fault. She wouldn’t give me the glass.”

“Put it away and let’s go. You don’t want to be late for your sister’s party.”

As we pulled up to the driveway of Delia and Clive’s estate, I took in a deep breath as Cameron grabbed hold of my hand and held it tight.

“No more games, babe. You have to tell Delia about us.”

“I know and I will.” I rolled my eyes.

Stepping into the foyer, I could hear the hustle and bustle of the grand sweet sixteen party in the backyard. As we walked through the kitchen, the caterers were scurrying to make sure everything was perfect. The food smelled absolutely delicious.

“Sierra, there you are.” Delia smiled as she kissed both my cheeks.

“Hello, Mother. You remember Cameron.” I grinned.

She looked him up and down before lightly placing her hand on his arm.

“Yes. Hello.” She lightly nodded.

“Hi. Thank you for inviting me.”

“Like I had a choice.” She arched her brow as she looked my way.

Rolling my eyes, we stepped out into the backyard and Cameron stood there with a shocked expression on his face.

“What?” I asked.

“Umm.”

I laughed. “That’s right. This is your first Delia party.”

“Wow,” he spoke.

Delia had gone all out. White tents were perfectly displayed through the yard and strung with white lights. Multiple tables that sat eight people, draped with pink cloth and huge floral centerpieces, were situated throughout. Balloons were everywhere and reminders that it was a sweet sixteen party filled the yard. A bar sat over by the pool with every kind of alcohol you could imagine, and multiple long rectangular tables sat on the other side of the yard filled with fruits and sweets. Handsome waiters walked around carrying trays of champagne, while attractive women served hors d’oeuvres.

“Sierra, looking lovely as ever.” Clive smiled as we lightly hugged.

“Hello, Clive. Thank you. You remember Cameron, right?”

“Of course.” He grabbed his hand and shook it. “Nice to see you again.”

“Nice to see you too.” Cameron smiled.

“I see Delia went all out,” I spoke.

“Doesn’t she always? She hit my pocketbook deep with this one.”

I couldn’t help but let out a fake laugh.

“Doesn’t she always?” I winked. “Where’s Ava?” I asked as I looked around.

“She was out here just a minute ago. There she is. She’s talking to Mr. and Mrs. Young.”

“I’m going to walk over and say hi.” I smiled as I grabbed a drink from the waiter who walked by.

“Sierra!” Ava spoke with excitement as she left Mr. and Mrs. Young and hugged me.

“Hello, baby sister.” I hugged her tight. “Happy happy birthday.”

“Thanks. Hey, Cameron.” She smiled as they hugged.

“Happy birthday, Ava. You look beautiful.”

“Thank you.”

“This is for you from me and Cameron.” I handed her the small bag.

“Can I open it now?” she asked with excitement.

“Of course you can.”

She removed the tissue paper and pulled out the Tiffany box. Her eyes lit up when she took off the lid and saw the bracelet sitting inside.

“Oh my God! It’s the bracelet I saw in the window. Thank you so much, Sierra and Cameron.” She hugged both of us. “Can you help me put it on?”

“Of course.” I smiled.

After removing it from the box, she handed it to me and held out her wrist.

“There.” It looks beautiful on you.”

“Are you ever going to tell Mom about Cameron? She went a rant last night to Dad about you.”

I rolled my eyes and sighed. “Yes. We’re telling her today.”

A wide grin crossed her face. “Good. I can’t wait to see the expression on her face. Oh. Some of my friends just showed up. I’ll talk to you later. Thank you again.”

“You’re welcome, sweetie. Go have fun.”

“Come on, babe.” Cameron hooked his arm around me. “Let’s go tell Delia now so we can enjoy the rest of the party.”

“Cam,” I whined.

“Sierra. I mean it. No more games.” He kissed the side of my head.

He was right. It was time to tell Delia so she could chill the fuck out. I had my fun and it was time to come clean.

“Mother, may I speak with you for a moment?” I asked as I interrupted her social circle time.

“Now, Sierra? I’m in the middle of a conversation with my friends.”

“Or not.” I smiled as I began to walk away.

Cameron grabbed my arm and halted me.

“Delia, Sierra and I need to speak with you now,” he spoke in a flat tone.

“Fine.” She sighed as she followed us inside the house. “What on earth is so important?”

Just as I was about to speak, James and Kirsty walked inside and her eyes lit up. She knew I was about to spill the beans, so she and James pretended to hold a conversation next to us.

“Mother, I would like you to meet Cameron Cole, my boyfriend.”

“I’m sorry. Your what?” She cocked her head.

“My boyfriend.”

“So your escort is now your boyfriend? For god sake’s, Sierra.” She threw her hands up in the air.

“He was never my escort.” I choked out the words.

“What?” Her eye narrowed at me.

“I was never her escort, Delia. Sierra hired me to remodel her house. I’m a carpenter and I own my own construction company. We got to know each other, fell in love, and now we’re a couple.”

She stood there with her arms folded, shaking her head at me. I could hear the snickers of James and Kirsty a few feet away.

“What the hell is the matter with you? You are just like your father.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” My voice raised.

Cameron placed his hand on my shoulder.

“I’m sorry I lied to you, but I didn’t want to hear how he wasn’t good enough because he didn’t come from money or have millions of dollars in his bank account. I love him, Mother. I swam in a dirty lake to get him back.”

“What?” She narrowed her eye.

“Long story, Delia. We’re sorry we lied to you, but the truth is that Sierra and I are very much in love and very happy,” Cameron spoke up.

“Well, at least you’re not an escort, for god sakes. Good luck to you, Cameron.” She huffed as she walked away.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I shouted. “What did she mean by that?” I narrowed my eye at Cameron.

“Just forget it, babe.” He pulled me into an embrace.

“I think she meant that he’s going to need all the luck he can get if he’s dating you.” Kirsty laughed.

“Haha. Very funny. Do you like your job?” I snarled.
