Then We Happened (Happened Series Book 2) by Sandi Lynn (1)

Chapter One

Sierra

“Babe, it’s time to get up,” Cameron spoke as he softly kissed my bare shoulder.

I stirred as I rolled over into his arms.

“No. No work today. I’m jetlagged.”

He let out a chuckle. “You are not jetlagged. The corporate world is calling you. You took enough time off when you came out to North Carolina. Adams Advertising needs you and I need to get back to work.”

I sighed as I kissed his muscular chest. “So you’re my boss now?”

“Only in the bedroom, babe.” He kissed the top of my head.

I lifted my head and my lips gently brushed against his. I was so in love with him and very happy that he loved me enough to permanently move to California. As we climbed out of bed, I looked at all his clothes that were stacked in the corner of the bedroom. A nervousness settled inside me because I knew they were waiting for closet space.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

“I was just looking at your clothes and wondering where they’re going to go.” I bit down on my bottom lip.

“In the closet.”

“But, see, I have no room in there.”

“Then I guess you’re going to have to get rid of some of your clothes and shoes. You can’t possibly wear everything in there.”

My heart started racing at the thought. How could he say something like that to me?

“I’ll have you know, Mr. Cole, that I wear everything in there.”

“Oh really?” He walked into the closet. “These five dresses alone still have the tags on them. And these shirts do too.” He pulled them from the rack. “Not to mention this row of shoes I have yet to see you wear.”

“I’ll wear them. I just haven’t had the opportunity yet.”

He walked over and placed his hands tightly on my hips.

“You’re not going to share your closet space, are you?” He smirked.

“No,” I pouted.

“We’ll figure something out, babe, but in the meantime, my clothes will have to stay right there.” He kissed my head and went into the bathroom.

Rosa wasn’t going to like this, and I would be the one to get the brunt of her complaining. I sighed as I walked downstairs and headed to the kitchen for some coffee.

“Morning, Rosa. Coffee please.” I took a seat at the table.

“I’m in the middle of making pancakes for Builder Boy, so you’ll have to get it yourself.”

I sat there with a twisted face as I stared at her flipping pancakes on the griddle. I got up from my chair, walked over, grabbed a mug, and poured myself some coffee. Cameron had just walked into the kitchen and kissed Rosa on the cheek.

“Good morning, Rosa. I could smell those pancakes all the way upstairs.” He smiled.

“Good morning, Cameron. Go sit down. They’re almost ready.”

Rolling my eyes, I took another mug down from the cupboard and poured some coffee into it for Cameron.

“Thanks, babe.”

As I was about to take my first sip, my phone rang. It was my mother. Great.

“Hello, Mother.” I sighed as I answered.

“Hello, Sierra. Are you back from your trip yet?”

“Yes. We got in last night.”

“Who’s ‘we’?”

“My escort and I.” I grinned at Cameron.

“Oh. He’s still around?”

“Yes.”

“Well, you know I don’t approve of what you’re doing, but anyway, I’m calling to tell you that I’m having a sweet sixteen party for Ava next weekend, so don’t make any plans.”

“And where will this grand party be taking place?” I asked.

“At the house.”

“May I bring my escort?”

Cameron rolled his eyes and Rosa snickered.

“Do you have to?” she replied with irritation.

“Yes. He goes where I go. That’s what I pay him for.”

“Fine, but no one, and I mean no one is to know who he is. Do you understand me, Sierra? I will not be the talk of the social circle about how my daughter hired an escort for her to play with.”

“Yes. I promise we’ll both be on our best behavior.”

“Fine. I have to go. I have a charity meeting to get ready for. Talk to you soon.”

“Bye, Mother.”

I set my phone down and looked at Cameron. “You’ve been cleared to come to Ava’s sweet sixteenth birthday party next weekend.” I smiled.

“When are you going to tell her, Sierra?”

“We’ll tell her at the party. It’ll be the highlight of her day.”

“You don’t think we should say something sooner?” He smiled at Rosa as she set down his pancakes with the smiley face drawn on them in whipped cream.

“Nah. Let’s have some fun a while longer.” I winked. “Thanks for the coffee, Rosa,” I sarcastically spoke as I held up my cup and took it upstairs to get ready for the office.

“You’re welcome, Sierra.” She snickered.

Just as I finished getting dressed, Cameron walked in and wrapped his arms around me.

“I have to go now. Have a good day at the office.” His lips kissed mine. “I love you.”

“I love you too, Cam.” I ran my finger across his lips. “I’m happy you’re here with me.” A smile graced my face.

“Me too. There’s no place else I’d rather be. I’ll call you later.”

“Okay. Looking forward to it.”

I walked into my closet to grab a pair of shoes when I heard Kirsty stomp into the bedroom.

“Do you see what time it is?”

“Yes. I’m ready. Just let me grab my purse.”
