Billionaire Desire: A Billionaire Romance by Lauren Wood (2)

Evony

“It is a promotion Evony. Why are you acting like this is a bad thing?”

How was I going to say this nicely?

“I’m not really wanting to work with Hail. I don't think anybody really wants to work with Hail, so it doesn't seem like much of all promotion. If they are trying to get rid of me, why don't they just do it? I have worked with Charlie for almost three years now and I’m happy where I am. I don't want to change.”

Stacy from HR seemed to understand what I was talking about. She had seen all of the assistances come through her office that were sent to Hail. Hail was one of the hardest people to work with in the company. Charlie was generous and always gave good bonuses, as well as time off. I got extra vacation time because I worked with Charlie. I didn't want to go back now.

“Well just think of the benefits Evony. Not only is it a promotion, but it's also more money. He is working with people like Alex Smith. Do you know the connections you can make working with Hail?”

“I don’t want the extra money Stacy and while I do like the connections line of thinking, I want to stay with Charlie. Are you telling me that it's not an option?”

Stacy looked down and I had a feeling that I was not going to have a choice. I was hopeful that after three years with the company, that I would have a little more leeway, but apparently, I didn't. Hail was the highest gross earner in the company. His scheduling was supposed to be the reason that he was so hard to work with, but I knew better. I had heard him yelling at his assistance, as they ran down the hallway. All of us had seen it. And if he wasn’t yelling at his assistants, he was doing something else entirely against company policy.

“It would be like a personal favor to me, if you would take him on. I don't know what else to do and he needs an assistant. You know how busy he is.”

I did know that he was busy, because he was the top earner, but that didn't mean that I wanted to work with him.

“Are you sure there is no one else?

She started to smile, and she flipped her red hair back up off of her face. She knew that I was about to give in, and I hated that about myself. It was so hard for me to say no to anybody and it was especially hard to say no to Stacy, because we were friends as well.

“No one else that can handle him, like I know you can Evony. Just have a little bit of faith. This is all going to work out for the best.”

I sat back in the chair and looked at her like I wanted to throttle her. I actually kind of did. She had taken a job that I loved and turned it into something that I knew I was going to hate. It wasn't just rumors and stories about Hail. Everything that was said about him, was true. I had seen it with my own eyes, and I told myself that I wasn't going to take any of his shit. Even if I had to find another job.

“Fine, Stacy. But we both know that I really didn't have a choice in this, so I am not going to pretend that I’m happy about this.”

She told me that she had paperwork for me to fill out and I just agreed to it. I had already lost the battle and it didn't really matter now. What was a little bit of paperwork, when I was going to have to work with one of the rudest men in the company?”

I went back to my desk and started to gather up a few things in a cardboard box that Stacy gave me. I saw Charlie watching me and when I looked his way, he turned his face down. He must have known that this was going to happen, and I was a little upset that he had let it go this way. Maybe if he would have fought for me, I wouldn't have been sent away to work with the devil.

Instead of letting myself get upset, I decided that I was just going to make the best of a situation. That's all I could really do anyways.

I mean it couldn't be that bad right?

When I got my things out of the desk, I went down the hallway to the elevator and pushed the up button. One good thing that was on my mind, was the fact that I was going to have a lot better view than I did before. I'm not sure what I was going to have to pay for that view, but I was still trying to see the bright side of everything. There was really nothing else that I could do, but try to see the benefits, instead of all of the negative. At this point, there was a whole lot of negative to think about.

The elevator dinged and the first thing I saw when I walked through the sliding doors, was my new boss plowing into some blonde chick that I'd never seen before. The elevator had opened up into his office and I stared at the action in front of me for a moment, before I looked away.

Hail was moving fast, and I watched him saw in and out of her quickly. I felt an awakening inside of me that I was unable to ignore, and I clenched my thighs together for a moment, watching the show in front of me. For a moment, a second really, I wanted to be that woman. I already knew the devastation that Hail could make on a girl and the reminder made me tremble a little bit, thinking back to a time where’d I seen this all before. This time I was closer, and Hail’s dark eyes were on me immediately, as he pushed deep into the little blonde.

I saw the small desk that was off to the side and I knew that it was mine. The whole floor was practically his office and I got this tiny little cubbyhole corner to the right. The only thing good about that, was at least I could go to my desk and ignore what was going on a few feet away from me.

Apparently, me being there seem to put a damper on their activities and I had to smile to myself, because it seemed like Hail didn't get to finish. I wasn't going to pay attention to all of the moaning sounds that had come out of the woman before I had stepped out of the elevator. Before I interrupted them, she seemed to be having a good old time. She had finished at least. I didn't really care if Hail did or not.

Once the woman had left, Hail looked over at me and frowned.

“Please tell me that Stacy is just joking. You’re not my new assistant, are you?”

I smiled his way and agreed that I was.

“How do you think I feel boss? You weren’t my first choice either.”

He scowled at me and I tried to ignore it. I wasn’t going to let a man like Hail get to me. I’d been in this business too long. I wasn’t going to let a guy like Hail ruin it for me. One day soon, I was going to be top earner. I just had to wait my turn and do a little more work that I hated, like assisting a tool like Hail. This was going to be fun.
