Billionaire Desire: A Billionaire Romance by Lauren Wood (5)

Hail

I was still admonishing myself on the way back to my place. The driver was taking care of weaving in and out of traffic and I was trying to figure out what the hell had just happened. I was a good salesperson because I could read people, the room, the situation. This time though, I had been way off. I’d thought I’d seen a glint of need in my assistant’s face and I was apparently wrong. The way she’d looked at me, I wasn’t going to be able to forget for a while, even if I wanted to and I really, really wanted to.

Instead of going home, I decided that the best course of action was to get my mind off of my prudish assistant. It was only the first day with Evony and I was starting to wonder if I’d made a terrible mistake. Maybe I didn’t need an assistant like Evony to whip my life into shape. I was doing good without her.

I went to a bar instead of home, because I knew what it was that I needed. I needed to get Evony out of my mind and the quickest way to do that, was to put another woman in it. It didn't take long before I found two friends and I figured that two would be better than one. Evony was the last thing on my mind when I went to sleep that night with two heads on my chest.

The two best friends was a good idea the night before, but it was a little uncomfortable the next morning when I woke up next to them. If it was only one woman, I could at least negotiate the other side of the bed to get up and not wake them up. This time I was in middle of two, and I ended up having to wake them up to get out of the bed.

“Where are you going?”

The blonde was asking me, but I couldn't for the life of me remember her name. I don't even really remember if I had asked for it, because I didn't care.

“I got to get up to take a shower and get ready for work. You guys stay as long as you want, have some breakfast and I'll have my driver swing back around and pick you up.”

The blonde smiled at me and asked me if I wanted any company in the shower, but I told her I didn't. She was cute, but she wasn't that remarkable, and I had to get my mind right for work. I had a big meeting this morning that would really help with the commissions. I just had to sell three more home security systems and I would be able to finance the yacht that I’d had my eye on over the holidays.

When I got in the shower, I got naked and for some reason, my assistant was back into my mind. I'm sure it was one of those situations where I was craving the thing that I couldn't have. For one reason or another, Evony had become forbidden fruit in my mind and it just made me wonder more. That's why I was thinking about her. She was a play thing. She had no taste and she certainly wasn't my type.

After I got dressed and made my way to make a coffee in the kitchen, I heard the woman upstairs wrestling around and I decided that I didn’t need to go back up there to get my wallet. I would just have to live on credit for the day and the hundred dollar bill that I pulled from one of the books on my shelf.

Sneaking out of the house, I got in the car and told Frances that we were going to stop at the last address we went to the night before. I wanted to give Evony a ride. Her car was still at work and there was a good chance she was going to have a hangover. It was my way of thanking her for the day before. She had worked well with the client and surprisingly knew more about the smart house system, than I did.

Pulling up to her house, I could see that there was a light on inside. I went to work early in the morning when it was still dark outside and my assistant had to go in that early as well. I should've called, but I didn't have her phone number. It was something that I was going to have to fix later today, but for now I needed to get into the office. I got out of the car and went to the door, knocking a few times before I heard somebody holler at me.

“Come in!”

I knew that Evony didn't realize it was me. If she had, she would not have told me just to walk in like that. I was sure that she must've thought I was someone else and now I was wondering who it was she thought I was. Is she dating someone? Did she live with someone? There were was so many things that I didn't know about her and all of a sudden, I wanted to know everything.

There still wasn't much light on in the house and that had been apparent from the windows outside. There was a light way down the hallway, that I imagine was coming from her bedroom. I should have called out her name or announced myself in some way or another, but she had told me to come in. And of course, I was going to walk towards the only light that was shining in the house.

When I got to the door frame, I stopped, frozen where I stood. My prudish assistant was bent over, getting something out of the bottom drawer of her dresser. She was wearing a slinky black nightie that called to me in so many ways. If I ever had to imagine what she was wearing to bed at night, this would not have been it.

If I had the wherewithal to think, I would have said something. But I couldn't. My voice was locked up and I was left staring at her for longer then I knew was right. I just couldn't keep my eyes off of her.

“Amanda I was wondering when you were going to get here. Hand me that black slip over there by the door.”

I looked at the long legs and the barest glimpse at the bottom of her ass cheeks and growled underneath my breath. The slip that she was looking for was like velvet in my hands and I played with the fabric, rubbing it between my fingers for a moment, before handing it to her.

“I’m not Amanda.”

She jerked a look towards me, and I smiled her way.

“I didn’t mean to startle you.”

“What are you doing here, in my bedroom?”

At the moment, I was getting a full view of her curves that were hidden with thick, frumpy outfits she wore to work. Why did she hide herself, when she had such an obviously beautiful body? I was lost for a moment, still trying to tie what I saw in front of me, to the woman I worked with.

“I, uh.” I stopped and smiled, hoping my boyish charm would soften her tone. “I know that your car is at the office, so I figured you would need a ride in today. I was just trying to be helpful. It is early and all.”

“Yeah, I have a friend coming. I didn’t want to take a taxi.”

“Well call her and tell her that you have a ride.”

She agreed and then stared at me for a moment.

“What?”

“You need to go Hail. I have to get dressed.”

“Right.”

I wanted to say something more, like a suggestion to wear something a little tighter, and more becoming. But I knew better than that. A woman like Evony would not take such a statement well.

Then again, it was probably better that she didn’t dress that way. I was barely going to be able to forget her in a nightie. The image was burned in my mind and she was off limits.

The plot thickens. Now I really do want her, challenge or not. I want the damn forbidden fruit. I want the apple. All of it and I was a man, that always got what he wanted, no matter what. Evony was now on that list of desires.
