Rise in Arms: Book 4 in the Blood Brothers MC Series by J.A. Collard (8)

“Fuck,” I growl as I push the kickstand to my bike back down and raise myself off the seat. I just said goodbye to everyone and was just about to start my bike up, when I received an alert of a missed call. It’s Hazel.

“What’s wrong, brother?” Bear asks, concern in his eyes as he struts toward me.

I glance up at him then back at my phone, replying, “Nothing, man. Just missed a call from my sister.”

I take one last drag of my cigarette then throw it on the ground. I’d given up smoking a while ago, when I was a fighter for the underground, for my fitness, but lately, I’ve taken it back up again. No need to explain why.

I dial Hazel’s number and walk toward the garage, where I can get some privacy.

“Kane!” she answers frantically.

Instantly, I go into worry mode. “Hazel, what’s wrong?”

“Oh, Kane. I’m so glad you called back.” I can sense a hint of desperation in her voice, and the sounds of the open road as her phone crackles through her car’s speaker. I’ve told her so many times to get that fixed but she’s stubborn, won’t listen to me.

“What’s going on? Are you in trouble or something?” I ask, terror washing through me.

I look up as I sense Bear near me; his face is full of concern.

“Kane, I’m on my way there.”

“You’re what?”

“I’m on my way to the club. We’re in trouble.”

I still, feeling my heart beating at a thousand miles an hour. “What trouble? Who’s we?”

“Look, I can’t talk for too long, I’m driving, and this hands-free is playing up.”

“How many fucking times have I told you to get that fixed, and not to mention the fucking car in general needs to be replaced. I’ve sent you money and you still refuse to use it. You need a new car!”

“I know, I know. Look, can we talk about this later. Me and Charity are on our way there, Kane, she needs your help, and I do. We need a place to crash.”

“And you were thinking the clubhouse is a good place to crash? Are you fucking crazy?” I lean my free hand on the garage door and shake my head. “Hazel, you’d better bloody start explaining what the fuck is going on with you.”

“Okay, okay. Geez, bossy much?”

I hear a giggle in the background and growl. “Who the fuck is that?”

“Kane, watch your mouth, my friend Charity is in the car with me. You know the one I just told you about….”

“Just get your ass to the clubhouse, will ya, and when you get here you need to start explainin’. I was just on my way down to visit you.”

“You were?”

I smile at her excited tone. “Yeah, babe, I was. I was gonna surprise you and shit.”

“Well, looks like I’m saving you the ride.”

Suddenly a thought crosses my mind, that she could be in danger. “Is anyone following you?” I ask.

“Um, no. Not that I know of. Charity, have you noticed any cars following us?”

“No, I haven’t,” I hear a voice say in the background. Her voice sounds sweet-like, but at the same time sexy as hell. It has a husky tone to it.

“That you, Charity?” I ask even though I know it’s her, just to hear that sweet-sexy voice again.

“Hi, Kane. Thanks for helping me out.”

I smile to myself. “Did I have a choice?”

“Kane,” Hazel cuts in, “don’t be rude. Now I should be there by the morning, we left a half hour ago.”

“Where are you? I’m gonna come meet you, there’s no way in hell that heap of shit is gonna get you here.” I start to walk back to my bike, not liking that two women are driving around on their own, especially overnight.

“Don’t be silly, Kane. My Betty is gonna be just fine, I promise I’ll text you every hour.”

“Betty?” Now I’m really confused.

“Yeah, you know… my car?” Her fucking car again.

“You better stop that car when you text me, Hazel,” I warn her.

“Geez, he is bossy. You’re right” comes through the phone.

“What’s that?” I ask, even though I heard her.

“Nothing,” I hear Charity say, then she laughs. “Ouch.”

“What’s going on, Hazel?”

“Nothing. Charity just hurt herself.”

I roll my eyes. “Just get your asses here,” I run my hand through my hair. This woman is going to be the death of me.

“Will do, sir.”

“Don’t forget to text,” I remind Hazel.

“Uh-huh, okay. Bye, Kane.”

“Yeah, see ya… and drive safe,” I add.

“Love you too, brother dearest.”

I cock a smile at her playfulness, then hang up the phone.

“What’s goin’ on?” Bear questions. “Hazel in trouble or something?”

I turn toward my friend and brother. “Seems that way. She’s on her way here with some friend of hers. Charity, I think she said.”

I seat myself on my bike again and grab my shades out of the pocket of my cut, placing them on my face.

“Where you off to?” Bear asks.

“What the fuck did you think I would do? Just wait here for her? I’m going to meet her,” I explain as I dial Tracker’s number on my phone. He takes a while to answer, probably still busy with Tash.

He finally picks up just as I’m about to hang up. His voice is all breathless and shit when he says, “Tracker.”

“Tracker, man, I need your help. And I need it now.”

I hear a whine from the other end of the line, and the sound of someone shuffling around. “What you need, brother?”

I smirk, knowing he was indeed still busy with Tash. “Sorry, man. I got you at a bad time it seems.” Bear laughs beside me.

I hear Tracker moving shit around, and then Honey in the background saying, “Hey, what about me? It’s your turn to go down on me.”

He doesn’t answer, I just hear a door shutting, then figure he’s in the bathroom because his voice echoes when he says, “Okay, what is it?”

“I need you to track down my sister’s phone, tell me exactly where she is.”

“But…. I thought you were leavin’ to see her.”

“Yeah, well things just changed. Look, can you do it for me or not?”

There’s a moment of silence, then, “On it. Text me her number and I’ll get back to you in five.”

I let out a deep breath, then grin. “You sure about that? Sounds like you have some pussy you need to look after,” I tease, grinning even wider when I hear Tracker snort on the other end.

“Nah, fuck that shit, I’ve already come, that’s all that matters.”

“She ain’t gonna be happy with that, man,” I say.

“Not my fuckin’ problem. Now, you need this or not?”

“Yeah, I do.”

“Your sis all right, man?” Tracker’s voice has dropped even lower, his concern for Hazel coming through clearly.

I sigh, scratching at my jaw. “Think so, her friend’s in trouble, in some shit, and somehow has got my sister involved. Don’t know what kind of fuckin’ friends she’s got, but if I find out she’s got my sister in some shit, I’ll be having words with her.”

“Need company on the ride, man?” Tracker asks without hesitation.

“You just got back,” I remind him. “You up for another ride?”

“Yeah, brother. Why the fuck not.”

“Hey,” Bear grumbles from beside me. “I’m comin’ too.”

I point my finger in Bear’s face. “You come, you keep your eyes off my sister.”

“Hey, man, she’s like my sister too,” he says quickly, palms up.

“Yeah, just keep it that way.”

“Your sister a hottie, man?” Tracker asks through the phone.

“Shut the fuck up. Either you or Bear look at her in any kind of way, I’ll fuck you up. Now hurry the fuck up, get me the intel, and meet me out front. We have some ridin’ to do.”
