Then We Happened (Happened Series Book 2) by Sandi Lynn (21)

Sierra

I climbed out of bed and put on my swimsuit. Going for a swim always helped clear my head. Especially after a night of tequila. I wasn’t ready to see Cameron yet, so I quietly left my room and heard the shower on in one of the guest bathrooms. I let out a sigh of relief as I walked downstairs and out the door to the patio. Jumping into the pool, I swam under the water to the other side, and as soon as I came up, I heard Cam’s voice.

“Trying to avoid me?” he asked.

What the fuck? He was just in the shower two seconds ago. How did he do that?

“I thought you were in the shower.”

“I turned it on to make you think that. I knew you weren’t going to come out of the bedroom if you knew I was downstairs.”

He sat down on the edge of the pool and stuck his feet in the water.

“Come here.” He held out his arms.

“No.” I stood with my back up against the wall of the pool and stared at him.

“I said come here,” he spoke in a commanding tone.

“I don’t give two fucks what you said, Mr. Cole.”

“Is that so?”

He stood up, pulled his shirt over his head, and jumped into the pool.

Shit. Now I was in for it. I quickly tried to swim away from him, but his swimming skills were a lot better than mine. He grabbed hold of my waist, his face mere inches from mine.

“I’m sorry, babe.”

I gulped as I stared into his beautiful eyes. He had me in his grip, and instantly, I melted.

“You said some horrible things,” I pouted as I put my arms around his neck.

“I know and I’m sorry. It’s just that asshole had me all fired up. He made me feel as if I wasn’t good enough for you.”

“Cam, you are more than good enough for me. How many times do I have to tell you that?”

“I know, baby. It’s just the people here in L.A. are so different from the people back home. I’m still trying to get used to everything and everyone.”

“So you’re still trying to get used to me?”

“No. I love you just the way you are.” He softly kissed my lips.

“Why didn’t you try to come to bed last night?”

“Because I know you and I knew you needed your space. I just didn’t expect you to sleep until noon.”

“You can thank Mr. Tequila for that.” I grinned.

“I figured.”

His hand left my hip and traveled down the front of my bikini bottom, his fingers softly caressing my clit. I bit down on my bottom lip as I stroked his cheek.

“We have some serious making up to do, Miss Adams.” His lips traveled to my neck.

“Yes, we do,” I moaned as his finger plunged inside me.

“I feel like I need to punish you for leaving me at that wedding last night.”

“You can punish me any way you see fit,” I groaned as I was already about to have an orgasm.

Cameron and I spent the rest of the day and night relaxing, watching movies, and talking. I turned off my phone and he turned off his. No interruptions and no distractions. The two of us were totally focused on each other and each other only. The day I had thought would be a shitfest after last night’s altercation ended up being better than I could have imagined.

The next morning, after getting dressed, we headed down to the kitchen for breakfast.

“Good morning, Rosa. Just a bagel and low fat cream cheese for me please.”

“Morning, Senorita. Good it is not. I have lots to do today in preparation for the arrival of Builder Boy’s family tomorrow.”

“Don’t stress out about it. You’ve met them. They like simple. The more we try to impress, the more they’ll hate me. So keep things low key.”

“I’ve got bad news,” Cameron spoke as he strolled into the kitchen.

“What’s wrong?” I asked as I poured us both some coffee.

“My family won’t be coming tomorrow.”

An involuntary grin crossed my face. Thank God my back was turned to him.

“What? Why?” I turned and handed him his coffee.

“Dad, Jolene, and Austin all have the flu. They came down with it late last night and my mom said she isn’t feeling so well. I guess it’s going around there and the rest of the family who had it was down for a solid week.”

“Oh no. What a shame. I was looking forward to seeing them again.”

I looked over at Rosa, who was popping my bagel into the toaster with a smile on her face.

“I know. I’m bummed about it. She said they’ll try to make it out here next month. Anyway, I’m skipping breakfast today. I need to get to Luxe and check on something before heading to Patina, Delia’s, and to pick up my keys and sign the lease for my new office.” He brushed his lips against mine. “Have a good day, baby. I love you.”

“I love you too. I’m sorry your family isn’t coming,” I pouted.

“Me too. Bye, Rosa.”

“Bye bye, Builder Boy.”

“YES!” both Rosa and I said at the same time after Cameron left and then did a little dance around the kitchen.

Kirsty and James walked in and Kirsty joined us in our little dance.

“What are we dancing to?” she asked.

“Cameron’s family had to cancel their trip!” I exclaimed.

“Oh. Why?” She stopped.

“They have the flu,” Rosa spoke.

Rosa and I stopped dancing and I sat down across from James to eat my bagel while Kirsty was showing her the ring that sat proudly on her finger.

Cameron

Luxe was almost finished and right on schedule. The place looked great and Ashton was more than pleased.

“Looks great, Cameron. I’m happy I hired you.” He smiled as he patted me on the back.

“Thanks, Ashton.”

“Your idea for the bar area was fantastic. Although I was skeptical at first about the idea, I’m glad you talked me into it. I have the grand opening set for two weeks from Friday. Yours and Sierra’s names will be on top of the VIP list. Make sure you’re here.”

I cocked my head at him.

“How did you know my girlfriend’s name is Sierra?” I asked.

“Oh. I overheard you talking about her to Paolo. Sorry, man, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop or anything. Anyway, I have a meeting to get to. As soon as the finishing touches are done, bring in the bill and I’ll write you a check on the spot. Have a good day.”

“Yeah. You too.”

I brushed it off and headed to Patina to check on the guys. I didn’t remember talking about Sierra to Paolo at Luxe, but things had been so crazy busy, I probably just didn’t remember. The thing about today that excited me the most was signing the lease and getting the keys to my office.

After leaving Patina and seeing that everything was right on schedule, I headed to Delia’s house.

“Cameron, we have a problem,” Carlos, one of my workmen spoke.

“What’s going on?”

“The tile she picked is discontinued, so we couldn’t get all of it.”

“What? Why the hell didn’t they tell me they were discontinuing it?”

“I asked the guy that at the tile place and he said that they were just notified themselves.”

“Did you call other shops to see if they had any left in stock?”

“Yeah. I called everywhere. No one has it.”

“Shit. She’s going to need to pick out a different tile. Is she home?”

“The last I saw her, she was out by the pool.”

I sighed and walked through the kitchen and out to the backyard. Looking around, I didn’t see her anywhere. Maybe she was in the pool house, which in itself was a mini house that had a living room, full kitchen, bar, bathroom, and bedroom. I placed my hand on the knob and slowly turned it, calling her name before fully opening the door. I gasped when I walked in and saw her fully naked, bent over the couch and some guy pounding her from behind.

“Oh my God!” I covered my eyes.

“Cameron! For god sakes!”

“I’m sorry, Delia. So sorry,” I spoke in a panicked tone as I quickly shut the door.

My breathing was constricted as I tried to move my legs but couldn’t. What I just witnessed had scarred me for life. Then Sierra popped into my head. Shit. Should I tell her? I couldn’t keep something like this from her. The humiliation that flowed through me shook me to my core.

“Cameron, stop!” Delia yelled as I made my way a few feet away from the pool house.

I stopped but refused to turn around and look at her. I couldn’t. She was Sierra’s mother and I just caught her having sex with someone other than her husband. She walked over to me wearing a blue silk robe.

“Did you need me for something?” she nonchalantly asked.

“Umm. Yeah. The tile you picked has been discontinued. You’re going to need to pick something else.”

“Very well. I have a backup picked out just in case. You will find the color and tile name in the top drawer of the kitchen desk.”

“Great. Thanks.” I began to walk away.

“Cameron?”

“Yeah?”

“An eye for an eye, right?”

“Sure. Umm. I guess.”

“Do me a favor and don’t mention what you saw here today to Sierra.”

“I won’t. I really need to go get that tile.”

“Very well.”

I scurried back into the house, opened the top drawer of the desk, and pulled out the piece of paper with the tile information on it. I gave it to Carlos and told him to go get it since I had an appointment with the realtor. As I climbed into my truck to leave, my phone rang. Sierra was calling. Shit. Of all times for her to call.

“Hey, baby,” I answered.

“Hello, my gorgeous man. I just finished my meeting and was wondering how your day was going so far.”

“Oh. Just fine. Thanks. How’s yours?”

“Fine. Cameron, is something wrong?” she asked.

“No. Not at all. Why?”

“You sound weird.”

“Nah. I’m just really busy, baby. Hey, if you have time, can you meet me at my new office? I’m really excited for you to see it.”

“Of course. I would love to.”

“Great. It should only take me about an hour. Is that good?”

“An hour is fine. Text me the address.”

“I will. I’ll see you soon.”
