Then We Happened (Happened Series Book 2) by Sandi Lynn (7)

Cameron

Sierra and Kirsty went and mingled with some guests while James and I stayed at the table in the tent and finished our drinks.

“Man, you have no idea how happy I am that I got that club job. Things weren’t looking really good and I was getting worried.”

“That’s great, Cameron. When do you start?” James asked.

“I have a meeting with the owner Monday morning. I’m really surprised he hired me, considering he told me that my bid was higher than the other contractors.”

“Maybe he knew you were the best man for the job. He probably had a good feeling about you.”

“Who the hell knows, but I’m not complaining.” I smiled. “Now I just need to get a few other jobs lined up.”

“Have you thought about having Sierra do some advertising for you?” he asked.

“Nah, man. I don’t want to get Sierra involved. I can do this on my own. I need to do this on my own. I love Sierra more than anything, but I think it’s best to keep our business lives separate.”

“But it’s only advertising.”

“And she’s Sierra. In case you haven’t noticed, she’s a control freak.”

James let out a chuckle. “True.”

As I leaned back in my chair, I felt two arms wrap around my neck and soft lips against my cheek.

“I missed you,” Sierra softly spoke in my ear.

“I missed you too.” I reached my hand back and stroked her cheek. “You reek like tequila.”

She sighed as she took a seat in between me and James.

“I may have had a few.”

“Where’s Kirsty?” James asked.

“She went to the bathroom.”

“Oh?” James face lit up. “Which one?”

“Go through the kitchen and it’s the first door on the right.”

“Thanks.” He grinned as he got up from his seat and walked away.

I shook my head as I laughed and took hold of Sierra’s hand.

“I’m still shocked I got that club job.”

“I’m not. You’re going to do an amazing job. I’m so proud of you.” She reached over, squeezed my lips together, and kissed them. “I think it’s time to go home. What do you say, boyfriend?”

“I say let’s go, girlfriend.” I grinned as our lips met once again.

We got up from our chairs and I hooked my arm around her, holding her close to my side as we walked over to Delia to say goodbye.

“We’re going to leave now, Mother. Do you know where Ava is?” Sierra asked.

“She’s around somewhere, and why are you leaving already? Did you have too much to drink?” She narrowed her eye.

“Maybe. Plus, Cam and I need to get home and have wild and crazy sex.” She smirked.

“Oh, for god sake’s, Sierra. Keep your voice down. Sometimes I sit up at night and wonder where I went wrong.”

I could tell by the look on Sierra’s face that she was hurt by what Delia said and the shit was about to hit the fan, but instead, she just gave her a smile and told me she was ready to leave.

“Are you okay?” I asked.

“Yeah. I’m used to her comments.”

The moment we stepped into the house, Sierra headed for the bar. Swooping her up before she had a chance to grab the bottle of tequila, I carried her upstairs.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“You don’t need a drink. You need sex. Sex is way better than alcohol and it won’t leave you with a hangover in the morning.” I smiled.

“But she makes me so mad, Cam.”

“Then take your anger and frustrations out on me in the bedroom, not the alcohol bottle.”

Laying her down on the bed, I hovered over her and stroked her cheek.

“I promise I can make you forget about her.” I dipped my head and softly kissed her lips.

Early Monday morning, I picked up Paolo and we headed to Ashton’s club for a meeting.

“Thanks for coming by, Cameron,” he spoke.

“Ashton, this is my friend and best worker, Paolo.”

“Nice to meet you, man.” He held out his hand.

“Good to meet you too.”

Ashton looked down at the drawings that were sprawled out on the large rectangular table.

“I’ve made some changes, especially to the bar area.”

“Looks good.” I nodded.

“I’m going to need you to start in a couple of days. Will that be a problem?” Ashton asked.

“Not at all. I have a crew on standby just waiting for the word.”

“Great.” He smiled. “I want to open this place up in a couple of months.”

“Not a problem,” I spoke. “We’ll get it done in plenty of time.”

“That’s what I like hear. Thanks, Cameron, and I’ll see you in a couple of days.”

After shaking his hand and saying goodbye, Paolo and I walked out and headed to my truck.

“What are we going to do if another job comes up? You don’t have enough workers to get this club done on time plus something else,” he spoke.

I shrugged. “I’ll deal with that if and when the time comes. But I’m not holding my breath on getting any other jobs quickly.”

“You never know, man. You didn’t think we’d get this one either.”

“True.” I smiled as we climbed in the truck.
