Then We Happened (Happened Series Book 2) by Sandi Lynn (22)

Sierra

“Where are you going in an hour?” Kirsty asked as she stood in the doorway of my office with her arms folded and tapping her foot.

“I’m meeting Cam at his new office.”

“Really?” She cocked her head. “You have a meeting with the design team in an hour.”

“Shit.” I bit down on my bottom lip. “Cancel it. Reschedule for tomorrow morning and send my apologies.”

She let out a long sigh. “Fine. But the only time I can schedule it for is ten a.m.”

“That’ll work.”

My phone dinged with a text message from Cameron giving me the office address.

“Well, I’m off now.”

I got up from my seat, grabbed my briefcase and purse, and headed out the door.

“You’re not coming back?” Kirsty asked.

“No. I’m just going to go home with Cameron. I’ll send James back to pick you up early. Consider it an engagement gift.” I winked.

“You are so kind, Sierra.” She rolled her eyes.

Just as James pulled up to the curb of the building, I rolled down the window and yelled, “Who’s that sexy man?”

Cameron turned around, and with a smile, he walked over to the car and opened the door for me.

“Do you always open the door for women who call you sexy?” I grinned as I placed my hand in his.

“Only the beautiful corporate blonde ones.” His lips brushed against mine. “I can’t wait to show you my office.”

He held my hand and led me inside the building. After inserting the key into the lock, he opened the door and flipped the light switch on the wall.

“So, what do you think?”

“Nice.” I smiled as I walked around. “After a coat of fresh paint and some office furniture, you’ll be ready to go.”

“I don’t need anything fancy. Just a simple wood desk will do and a couple of file cabinets for my paperwork.”

I sighed. His vision was far off from mine.

“Paolo and I will paint this weekend,” he spoke.

“Let me buy you a desk.” I grinned.

“No, Sierra. I can get my own desk.”

“I just want to give you an office warming present,” I pouted. “That’s what couples do in relationships. They buy each other things, and I want to buy you a desk. Plus, I have an ulterior motive.”

He walked over to me and wrapped his arms around my waist.

“And what motive would that be?”

“Every time you sit at it, you’ll think of me.”

His eyes stared into mine for a moment. I had him. Hook, line, and sinker.

“It really means that much to you. Doesn’t it?”

“Yes. It does.”

“Fine. You can buy me a desk.” He kissed the tip of my nose.

“Thank you, babe.” I placed my forehead against his.

“You’re welcome. But you have to promise me something.”

“Anything.”

“The minute that desk gets delivered, we have to christen it.” He smiled.

“Deal.” I kissed him.

We drove home and Rosa was just getting ready to leave when we walked through the door.

“There’s chicken enchiladas warming in the oven for you two,” she spoke. “I’ll see you both in the morning.”

“Good night, Rosa,” we both spoke at the same time.

I reached up into the cabinet and took down two plates while Cam took out dinner from the oven.

“Sierra, there’s something I need to tell you,” he spoke with seriousness.

“Okay.” I grabbed a bottle of wine and two glasses.

He stood there in silence.

“Cam, what is it?”

I didn’t like the expression on his face and I started to worry.

“Shit. I’m just going to come out and say it.”

“Say what?!”

“I caught Delia having sex with some younger guy in the pool house today.”

I stared at him, trying to comprehend the words that just came out of his mouth. Then suddenly, I busted into laughter. I was laughing so hard that tears streamed down my face.

“Sierra, it’s not funny.”

“Details, Cam. I need details!” I laughed.

“I walked into the pool house and she was totally naked and some guy was fucking her from behind.”

I stopped the laughter that escaped me, walked over to Cameron, and placed my hands on each side of his face.

“You poor thing. You must be scarred for life after seeing that.”

“Actually, I am. It was awful,” he spoke with seriousness.

Once again, laughter emerged, and I couldn’t control it.

“Well, I’m glad you think it’s funny. She told me not to tell you. But I had to. I couldn’t keep it from you.”

“Who was this guy?” I asked.

“I don’t know. I got the hell out of there as fast as I could. Then she came after me and acted like it was no big deal. She asked if I needed her for something. After I told her about her tile being discontinued and that she’d have to pick out something else, she said, ‘An eye for an eye, right?’”

I gulped, trying not to laugh once again. We took our seats at the table and began eating.

“Well, obviously, if she thinks Clive can do it, so can she. But in all honesty, who would want to fuck Delia?” I shuddered.

“Sierra, that’s not the point. Your mother cheated and I caught her. How am I supposed to look Clive in the eye now?”

“Really, Cam? How do you look Delia in the eye knowing that Clive has a mistress?”

“I didn’t catch the two of them, did I?”

“Oh my God!” I began laughing once again. “That’s why you sounded so weird on the phone when I called. You had just caught Delia doing the dirty deed.”

“Yeah, and I couldn’t tell you right then and there because I was still in shock.”

“Divorce for Delia and Clive is inevitable. Let Delia have her fun before the nasty battle of divorce starts. Now, enough about that. I seriously need to get that whole image out of my head.”

“You? What about me?”

“You’ll bounce back.” I winked. “I want to throw James and Kirsty an elaborate engagement party. I was thinking about having it here in the backyard. What do you think?”

“I think that’s a great idea. When are you planning it for?”

“I was thinking a couple of weeks. But I want it to be a surprise. I don’t want them to know about it until they walk through the door. So don’t mention anything to James.”

“I won’t.”

“Are you sure? You weren’t supposed to tell me about Delia.” I laughed.

He cocked his head from across the table, picked up a piece of bread, and threw it at me, hitting me square in the nose.

The next morning, after I showered, I headed to the kitchen, poured myself a cup of coffee, sat down at the table, and dialed Delia.

“Good morning, Sierra. It’s a little early to be calling, don’t you think?”

“It’s seven thirty, Mother. You’re always up at five.”

“Well, to what do I owe this unexpected phone call?” she asked.

“I was hoping you’d like to meet me for breakfast before I head into the office.”

Rosa whipped her head around and stared at me in disbelief.

“I have a meeting at ten o’clock,” she responded.

“I also have a meeting at ten o’clock. So let’s meet in a half hour. That will give us plenty of time to have breakfast.”

“What’s this about, Sierra?”

“Nothing. Is it so wrong to want to have breakfast with my mother?”

“Fine. Let’s meet at that cute little diner that just opened up on Santa Monica Boulevard. The one with the fruit and vegetable stand in front of it.”

“I’ll see you in thirty minutes,” I spoke.

“See who in thirty minutes?” Cameron asked as he strolled into the kitchen.

“She’s meeting Delia for breakfast,” Rosa spoke.

“What? Sierra!” Cameron shook his head. “You can’t tell her I told you.”

“Told her what, Builder Boy?”

Cameron sighed and I looked at Rosa with a grin on my face.

“Cameron caught Delia doing the dirty deed in the pool house yesterday with some young guy.”

“Stop it!” Rosa exclaimed. “He did not!”

“Oh, he did,” I spoke.

Cameron threw his hands up in the air and then took a seat at the table.

“You poor boy. I make you a special breakfast.”

“Thanks, Rosa. Sierra, why?”

“Why what?” I arched my brow.

“Why are you meeting Delia for breakfast?”

“If you’re worried that I’m going to tell her I know, don’t be. I just want to see if she’ll tell me anything. I’ll probe her about Clive. Maybe then she’ll open up about her boy toy.” I smiled.
